Can someone tell me the average weight of a male labrador at 11 months old. Or if you have a lab roughly the same age what do they weight? Trying to work out if my lab is small for his age?

I think a full grown working lab should be around 30kg. Mine is exactly 30kg. I don’t think he was quite full grown at 11 months though.

Mentallydrainedmum · 25/01/2023 18:08

Okay, ive had mines weighed today and he's 32.6kg. The reason im asking is he doesnt eat his food as I would expect a lab too! Nibbles here and there. Everyone say's hes massive but i feel like hes not getting any bigger

At 11 months he should be adult height but a bit skinny. He should be a 2.5 on the chart

He must be eating food to get to that weight.

Our 13 month male lab is 28 kilos.
Our previous male lab ranged from 28 - 33 kilos over his adult life. at 33 kilos he was overweight and we intervened. He sat happily around 29/30 kilos.

TheShiningPup · 25/01/2023 18:26

Why are you expecting him to get much bigger? From the working labs I know 32.6kg would be at the top end size wise.

Not all labs eat everything in sight, we have a fussy one.

ShouldIknowthisalready · 25/01/2023 18:40

18 month working lab 25kg

32.6kg is mega overweight for most working labs

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 25/01/2023 18:41

32kg sounds pretty large for a working labrador. He must be eating a fair bit to reach that size.

Young dogs should be skinny. You should be able to clearly see their waists and feel their ribs if you run your hands gently down their sides.

Nap1983 · 25/01/2023 18:47

I have a 2 year old working lab, he is 33kg and not overweight at that. Seen at vet last week. Can feel ribs, see them when he’s moving and has a waist.

He definitely is not overweight so that's rubbish.

@AdventFridgeOfShame I would say he's 3 on that chart that you sent.

@TheShiningPup I never said I was expecting him to get bigger, when I said I don't think he's getting bigger I meant he's been the same size since he was around 8 months old.

I wouldn't say he's the same height as an adult lab, he's more muscle than height. Im just confused as everyone has basically replied hes the bigger end of the scale but honestly believe me when I say he hardly eats. He can go 1 or 2 days without touching his food

Also he isn't a working labrador he's a family pet but has working lines

Our 2.5yr old working lab went to the vet last week and weighed 29 kilos. She told us not to let him put on any more weight. We were surprised (and probably a bit defensive!) because he has two good walks per day, an appropriate diet and few treats.

2 labs in my life ....Our drug detection dog at work is 32kg but slim looking

Our lab at home is now on a diet after reading this thread!! He's around 35kg

Polkadotties · 25/01/2023 18:55

I’ve got a 7.5 month bitch from working lines. She was the smallest in the litter and is just under 19kg

That still means he needs to be the same shape as a labrador that works.

Could you post a photo? People could give better advice if they could see what he actually looks like.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 25/01/2023 19:01

Do you have a partner, kids or parents who could be slipping him food under the table?

As a teenage delinquent, I'd expect him to be a 2 to 2.5 on the chart. To have too much bounce and to clear the coffee table with his daily every three hours.

When did he last see the vet?

He was at the vet today, it was that vet that weighed him. He didnt say anything about his weight, concern or otherwise

I've had working labs (all male, and all at least average in height) vary from 25kg to 37kg. All have been on the very slim/very fit side of life. The 37kg was an enormously tall dog, and probably the slimmest of the lot except for the 25kg one.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 25/01/2023 19:11

Hopefully he is fine then.

However, some vets are very careful to always be polite to owners and then end up with lots of obese customers. My vet is straight talking to the point of being a bit blunt, I love her.

Why didn't you ask the vet when you saw him?
Next time take a list of questions, it is easy to get phased and forget.

shockthemonkey · 25/01/2023 19:13

Just use the condition chart as posted by pp. He should be close to 3 maybe a bit lighter. Weight is not reliable as there are big, medium and small even amongst same age/sex/line.

Phillipa12 · 25/01/2023 19:16

I've owned 3 working labs. One dog weighed 28kg, the second at his heaviest weighed 33kg and he was slimmer than the 28kg dog, he was just a tall broad lab and my last lab is 11 months and weighed 22.6kg at his 10 month weigh in.

Mentallydrainedmum · 25/01/2023 19:22

Okay so weights vary. He is stocky, definitely not overweight. I think my main focus was I dont think hes growing so im maybe focusing on his weight too much. Ive just found a message I sent to someone in August (he was 7 months old) and said he had just been weighed at the vets and was 28.9kg

OP posts:
Mentallydrainedmum · 25/01/2023 19:25

So between august on today hes put on 4kg, is that a normal amount?
