Wearing a jumper overnight in a cold room

Do your dogs wear clothing overnight? I'm away tonight and my 7mo pup is at home with my sons.

She sleeps in a sitting room and as I woke early I've checked the webcam and it's been saying too cold 13C since around 1am. She's been restless I can see, but not awake awake. She sleeps on the sofa with a big fluffy throw but she can't cover herself up obviously 😆

My whippet cross used to sleep with a fleece dog coat on.
Current dog sleeps on a double duvet (in a cover) usually folded but he makes a nest out of it if it’s chilly. He loves his duvet. If you haven’t got a chewer you could try an old duvet.

Nugg · 03/01/2023 05:19

The throws she has are enormous, king size bed size at least, she's not a chewer though so it's another option thank you!

Our 2 wear cotton pjs at night cos we're in an old cold house.

RandomMess · 05/01/2023 18:42

Yep short hair skinny terrier has her equafleece on in her covered crate, very cold nights she has a dog hot water bottle 🙄 she hates being cold.

Didiplanthis · 05/01/2023 18:44

My whippets do.. the smaller one more than the bigger one as she feels the cold more and the big boy is a burrower if needed.

Zipps · 05/01/2023 18:46

Mine sleep with a dog coat on in winter, they have a dog bed lined with a sheepskin rug and a old duvet.

whataboutsecondbreakfast · 05/01/2023 20:04

No, but he sleeps in the bed with us so he doesn't need one.

He does feel the cold though so I'd put a jumper on him if I was worried.

snatchabook · 05/01/2023 20:06

So...are there going to be any pics of dogs in pyjamas?

Quveas · 05/01/2023 20:10

Depends on the breed. Dogs generally don't experience cold like we do. They don't have pores across their bodies so they don't get cold the same. Young dogs also don't generally sleep deeply or soundly. They are always partially alert.

When the pjs just aren't enough.

She has a complete equafleece too.

it's a bit harder to find PJ's for a big dog but I managed it. Don't worry he didn't sleep in them he doesn't need to be kept warm. Although he loves a jumper last couple of nights he's refused to take his dressing gown (drying coat) off at bedtime so slept in it 😁

I’m just here for the photos! I didn’t know this was a thing. My dog either sleeps on top of our duvet or wrapped up in his duvet and blankets, he’s little so manages to just have his head out.

hattie43 · 18/01/2023 16:05

Mine wear their equafleece but I still find them under the duvet so fleeces alone aren't sufficient for my two

Aria20 · 18/01/2023 18:40

@Leeeeeeeeeeeeeee that is sooo cute!

My dog keeps waking early hours and I think she may be cold. She obv starts off with her blanket on as I tuck her in but inevitably she moves... when I come down to her she doesn't need anything and once I tuck her back in she goes straight back to sleep! I've added an old dressing gown for her to sleep next to and snuggle into but doesn't seem to have helped. I'm not sure she'd be comfortable in a jumper all night

Leeeeeeeeeeeeeee · 18/01/2023 18:49

@Aria20
my boys quite poorly at the moment and is losing a lot of weight. He seems to be cold a lot and I do put jumpers on him on the days we don’t have the heating on. He seemed comfy enough the other night in both his dressing gown and his hoodie that he also refused to let me take off. There’s a fine line between the jumpers being too baggy and him getting his legs caught in and too small that he can’t stretch out properly. That’s where his drying coat is ideal as it’s a perfect fit. He also sleeps with me and still cuddles in so I assume he’s not too hot as in the summer he’s up and down off the bed to cool down

shimmerbubbles · 18/01/2023 18:58

My little dog has always really felt the cold. In winter she sleeps in an equafleece (and still spends half the night under the covers), and often spends a good part of the day wearing her fleece too.

The equafleece tankie is perfect for sleeping in as there's no bits that need to be fastened - I always think coats that secure under the tummy must be uncomfortable to sleep in. Plus they do so many different sizes (including for specific 'breed shapes' that you can get a perfect fit so that you don't need to worry about getting legs stuck etc.

DforDogWoof · 20/01/2023 12:50

I don't think my German Shepherd would care if a blizzard was blowing through the bedroom (lol) but our little terrier used to get really cold in the night if his blanket came off (which of course it always does). For really cold nights he would wear his Equafleece jumper but if it was just a little chilly, he used to wear his FuzzYard dog pyjamas www.dfordog.co.uk/fuzzyard-dog-pyjamas.html 😍
