How much would you pay?

For boarding your dog, per night, in a home environment (not in a kennels or crate but a home).

Your dog would have access to 2 acres of secure garden, in a fully insured and licenced home. Lots of woodland walks, and they would always have human company and never be left.

You'd be sent regular updates. Your dog's feeding and exercise routine would be followed; the dog/s would be cared for by a loving, caring experienced dog owner.

And also, how far would you be willing to travel for a home boarding like this?

£20-25

Luckyducker · 12/12/2022 18:52

I'm probably the wrong person to answer this as we just bring our dog on holiday with us but if we did go away without him I would pay £30 a night for that. The large garden etc would not be as important to me as knowing he could have time without other dogs so he could fully relax. I wouldn't like to leave him with a home boarder who took multiple dogs and kept them all together all the time.

Jimmini · 12/12/2022 18:52

Personally I would travel over 2 hours and happily pay £40 a night. If you set something up like this let me know the details. I’ve never not taken my dog on holiday because I haven’t ever found a set up that I have liked for him.

he is a lovely boy- but fussy- won’t toilet on short grass, or concrete- so you can’t just bung him in a garden for toilet breaks. I looked at a kennel and they said the shut dogs in for the night with newspaper at 6pm- I knew my poor dog would just be trying to hold it- so never was happy to leave him overnight.

AnotherAppleThief · 12/12/2022 18:55

If you consider taking on dogs with medical needs even better and I'd pay £50/60 per night.

Jimmini · 12/12/2022 18:55

Just to add I like my dog not toileting on short grass- it means our garden (and friends and families gardens) are safe. I don’t want this habit broken which is why I dont like home borders who won’t stick to our routine.

DarkMatternix · 12/12/2022 18:58

We pay £25 a night for home boarding as a single dog.

sickofturkey · 12/12/2022 19:03

I am currently paying £32 per night and it's worth every penny !

Nw22 · 12/12/2022 19:04

40/50 a night

Snowdropsarelovely · 12/12/2022 19:13

I paid £30 for 24 hours of care like that

birdsandthewasps · 12/12/2022 20:06

Are there other dogs around/ how many boarders would you have at a time?

I personally wouldn’t use anyone who didn’t know my dog well so for that reason wouldn’t travel more than 30mins as I’d want to do intros & settling etc

HippeePrincess · 12/12/2022 20:06

£45/50 in the midlands here depending on the rest of the service. My dog walker offers home boarding for £30 but expects a v early pick up the following day, dog sleeps on her bed though so that’s our compromise! We pay an extra full day if we need later pick up. She’s about to increase her prices.

AndyandLance · 12/12/2022 20:22

It would be tailored to the individual dog's needs - if they needed to be the only dog then I'd accept just 1, but if they were a more social dog delighted with company (supervised) then more - but a maximum of 2 different households.

It's been a pipedream of mine for years and now it finally looks doable! I have lots of experience with my own dogs and I've fostered and rehabilitated many too.

My approach would be 100% positive based, very much wanting to ensure the dog's usual routine is followed as much as possible with lots of enrichment and activity. And cuddles! If they're used to the sofa, or sleeping on the bed, that's fine - the rules would be set by each owner.

I pay 25-30 per 24 hours for 2 dogs.
I would pay up to 40 with your facilities but only if they were the only dogs.

HermioneWeasley · 12/12/2022 20:31

A friend runs a doggy boarding house like this. I think she charges £35 a night

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 12/12/2022 20:33

I'd travel a couple of hours and pay up to £40.

Clymene · 12/12/2022 20:38

Oh if I could control the other dogs, I'd pay more

AndyandLance · 12/12/2022 20:48

I really appreciate the replies, thank you.

I pay £35 for a dog sitter at our house, so I’d pay a similar amount.

mondaytosunday · 12/12/2022 21:00

Its £30/dog at the kennel. So I'd pay more for someone to give him individual attention and more walks. £40 or so. But I have two dogs and two cats so I'd be asking a friend's university aged kid to stay for about £40/night (as I did this past summer).

TerrierOrTerror · 12/12/2022 21:04

I would pay a lot more than the posters above. Daycare per day is approx £40 and it is an absolute nightmare to find a boarder who won't leave the dogs at all (ours has separation anxiety) - so tbh I'd pay £75 and to be honest probably more.

Where are you based?!

Iamclearlyamug · 12/12/2022 21:06

Another who'd love to know where you're based if you do go ahead - you'll have no shortage of clients even at the top end price range Trust me!

AndyandLance · 12/12/2022 21:15

Hopefully will be fully ready in Spring 2023 - based in Worcestershire 😀

I’d pay between £35-45 I like that you’d offer sleeping on bed - I haven’t had a need for home boarding yet as my dog goes to FIL when we go away but he is a nervous dog who sleeps in our bed with us. He is also raw fed and can’t be in a cage. What are your views on titre tests instead of boosters? Your business idea sounds wonderful and shame you’re not near me.

thelobsterquadrille · 12/12/2022 22:12

Licensed home boarders around here charge about £25 per night. The kennels all charge between £12/15 per night.

I'm a house sitter and charge £50 per night 🤣

Tygertiger · 12/12/2022 22:30

This is exactly the set-up I have with my home boarder and I pay £30 per night, or £28 if it is a stay of at least 7 nights. That’s in the NW.
