Puppy not waking or crying at night?

Christmasiscominghohoho · 22/08/2022 15:20

Is this normal? We have had her for 2 nights and both nights Iv took her out for a wee around 11-11.30 and then put her in her crate and she doesn’t make a peep.

She doesn’t wake me up to go a wee either… both nights Iv woken up around 4 and took her out to go a wee. She goes and I then put her back in her crate. She whines for less then 2 minutes and then silence until I get up in the morning at 6.30-7.

Is this normal? This is my first pup and I was expecting to be up all night. Her crate is in the front room and the door is open all day. Iv gave her a couple of meals in there and she’s happy to lay or sit in there.

Will she start crying later on down the line?

She’s a Cavapoo.

Let’s hope not

garlicandsapphires · 22/08/2022 15:23

Wow, you’re lucky. No idea if normal or not. It’s taken a lot of work to get mine in the crate and she cries loudly if I leave her alone to go to the loo!
sorry, not helpful…

JenGin · 22/08/2022 15:26

She just feels safe and secure where she is and she's content. I wouldn't count your blessings just yet, though. As she gains confidence she'll probably become more demanding and it won't be such an easy ride all the way through puppyhood! Enjoy the peaceful moments while you can but it'll all be worth it.

Sunflowers765 · 22/08/2022 15:38

Our lab puppy was like this. First night in crate 11pm we went upstairs and waited for the crying. Not a peep. Came down 7am dry crate straight out in garden for wee. She was 8 weeks old. Next puppy screeched the house down literally all night for a fortnight. Thought I was going to lose my mind! Especially as I was expecting him to be like the first one.

PritiPatelsMaker · 22/08/2022 16:12

Hate to tell you this but our rescue was perfect the first two nights. Well she was after that really it's just that after 2 nights she decided that she wanted to sleep in our bed and all hell broke lose until she got her own way Grin

Ha ha no chance of that happening. Her crate is in our front room and we sleep upstairs.

She’s Tiny at the moment and can’t climb the stairs so hasn’t been upstairs. I will probably keep it that way too and get a stair gate at some point too.

I find it hard to sleep as it is without worrying I’m going to crush the dog in my sleep😂

Thanks everyone. Il count my blessings for now.

Shes so tiny, I think she was the runt of the litter as her siblings were bigger then her. She weighs just over a kg and she’s 10 weeks old.

Id enjoy it whilst it lasts ..... and keep my fingers crossed that this is how your pup is!!!!

mrsfeatherbottom · 22/08/2022 16:44

Our pup never woke us at night, bar the very first night when she cried briefly at 3am. After that, she has slept through every night. And she's in the next room so it's not that we don't hear her.

Christmasiscominghohoho · 22/08/2022 16:51

So if she doesn’t wake during the night… Should I be waking her to take her outside to toilet or just leaving her til she wakes me in the morning?

everything I read online tells me I should be waking her which is what Iv done so far

I could be wrong here but I think you should still be waking her to take her outside as this will help with the house training process.

Cockerwalk · 22/08/2022 17:07

Our cocker spaniel was exactly like this and is now nearly a year old and no different.

We didn’t crate her but she’s downstairs at nighttime and doesn’t make a peep. She’s always been very happy to sleep in her bed and goes from 9pm-7:30am without a wee. When she was very little, I took her out once at about 4am too.

Is she having accidents in the night? Ours didn't so we didn't see any point in waking her.

That is one cute Dog christmas 😍

bubblesandwineandallthingsfine · 22/08/2022 20:48

But you’ve woken at 4 to take her out? Do that makes it perfectly normal over time you can build up to later in the morning

RedRobyn2021 · 22/08/2022 20:50

My dog did this when she was a puppy. She's a Labrador and perfectly healthy. Definitely not what we had been expecting!

PugInTheHouse · 22/08/2022 21:24

Both my puppies were fine at night straight away, never had to wake them. At 6 months my pug decided he didn't want to sleep in the crate so then we put a bed on the floor. Our new pup has never been crated but he was always fine at night and never had to be woken up. He is 6 months now and is waking for wees a few times a night currently, we are trying to figure out whether it is just because it's so hot he's drinking more or whether it's a medical issue.

Personally I wouldn't wake them, we did for the first night or two with out first pup at about 4am but then just left him after that, he woke around 430/5 for a week or so then about 7ish after that.

cavalover · 22/08/2022 21:29

Omg; you're giving me hope. Just brought home our Cavapoo and absolutely no drama leaving him to come to bed!

Are you crate training Christmas? Ours didn't go in the crate last night and we left him from 10-6. Might have been beginners luck mind you!

Yes we are but she seems to love her crate and has no problem going in it. I’m too afraid to just let her roam around downstairs while she’s so young at the moment. She’s so tiny and I’m not allowing her upstairs.

Last night I took her out at 11.45 and woke up at 6.30.

Pup was dry and was silent (I laid down for a few minutes listening) until I got up to go to the toilet and she could hear me. I then took her out for a wee.

Hopefully tonight goes just as well for you!

What a beautiful dog op!!

cavalover · 23/08/2022 22:52

Thank you Christmas! Last night there were 3x 10 minute cries (breeder said cry it out which I hate but I'm still breastfeeding and cosleeping with our 18 month old human baby so I said DP either supported breeder or slept downstairs til he sleeps thru. He had same pattern when we left him tonight. 10 minute cry then went to sleep so fingers crossed. Hope you have a good night too x
