Dog being pts - be there or not? Urgent.

I love my dog with all my heart. He’s very old. Getting more and more wobbly. Currently at the vet’s. Was settled and calm/sleepy when I left him, in his old bed. The vet says if he doesn’t rally and they think he’s v I’ll, they will recommend euthanising him TODAY. This is obviously v sad and distressing for me but I’ll do what’s best for my dog, as I always have. My question is - if this is the decision - should I be there as it happens? I ask because I know I’ll be upset and I know he’ll know I’m upset. Will that really help him? If he was having an op and they gave him anaesthetic, I wouldn’t be there. To reiterate - this isn’t about big old me, it’s about my lovely old dog.

These days are just dreadful. It’s ok to feel whatever you feel. So many of us will be having the heart sinking gut wrench today on your behalf. You’ve lost something you loved. Everyone with a dog thinks they have the best dog ever, and none of them are wrong.

You’ll get there. It doesn’t always feel this bad. The thing is, he’ll have left you stronger than you might feel right now. You carry him with you. I promise x

We buried my girl in her stripy jumper and scarf, wrapped in her favourite blanket. I kept a square of that blanket and her lead.
4 years down the line I still miss that old girl, but I miss her with a smile now, not a tear.
It'll be raw for a while, but that day will come eventually.
