Think the dog has eaten some tin foil.

It was a small ball that had fallen on the floor but was covered in chicken fat. I can't tell whether he's eaten it or not.

It was slightly bigger than a marble. Do you think it will pass through?

Yes it'll be fine it's squashable and will mould

LoudingVoice · 04/06/2022 17:27

Yeah I’m sure my dog has eaten worse!

ProclivityForPyrotechnics · 04/06/2022 17:27

Glittery poo

fruitstick · 04/06/2022 17:27

Thank you.

I couldn't face another emergency vomit trip to the vet Confused

Almost certainly it will pass through, and will be easy to see on x ray if in doubt. Feed bread, potatoes or tinned asparagus for a few days to bulk it out.
Watch out for vomiting, diarrhoea, straining or depression.

Thank you. I will do. I've just given him some peanut butter with a bit of olive oil too, to hopefully smooth things along.

Fibre works better than fat to swoosh things along. 😉

Runningslow · 04/06/2022 18:03

What size dog is he?

fruitstick · 04/06/2022 18:17

He's a cocker spaniel. A show cocker and on the large side. He's 15kg.

This happened to my dog about a year ago. He ate part of a cherry Bakewell case that dropped on the floor. He was absolutely fine no need for a vet trip. Keep an eye on the dog for the next 12 hours or so any signs of pacing, worried/ anxious behaviour like lowered head or shaking then I’d consider a trip to a vet. I checked his stomach every few hours for bloating and even lightly palpating the area and watching his reaction for pain or discomfort. Other then that lots of water and not strenuous exercise and the dog will be fine!

fruitstick · 04/06/2022 18:36

I'll keep an eye. He's had his dinner and I've just given him a slice of bread.

It was quite scrunched up (if) he ate it but the ball itself was smaller than the width of his poo Envy I think so I'll hopefully it will move through.

fruitstick · 04/06/2022 18:37

Hard to tell when he's lethargic - he's currently fast asleep.

One of our dogs, years ago, ate all the chocolate decorations off the Christmas tree, she was pooing foil for days! The vet said just to keep a eye on her, it was probably pretty low value chocolate so no need to do anything else.

custardbear · 04/06/2022 18:58

Bloody he'll I keep hearing dogs eat all kinds of stuff! We're looking to get a dog soon ... I think I'll get insurance!
My BF DDog once demolished a tin of quality street ... the whole lot! It wasn't even opened and she only went to the loo ... dogs are bonkers!

muddyford · 04/06/2022 19:29

Mine pinched a full poo bag off some Baptist and ended up swallowing it. Get said it would pass through. Something to look forward to.

muddyford · 04/06/2022 19:30

Not Baptist...halfwit!

fruitstick · 04/06/2022 19:56

I took him to the very recently because he ate a plastic bag that contained some bits of roast chicken I'd taken out with me to give him as a treats.

I dropped it and he swallowed the whole bag.

Motorina · 04/06/2022 21:20

Mine have eaten far far worse than that. If he were teeny tiny I might be worried, but at 15kg I wouldn't. It'll pass.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 04/06/2022 22:11

He'll be absolutely fine! Mine is a similar weight and has eaten much, much worse!

allboysherebutme · 04/06/2022 22:17

Either pass through or will be sick himself. X

Lostmyunicorn · 04/06/2022 22:22

My sprocker does similar all the time. I can’t tell you the inappropriate things he’s eaten. He never has any ill effects and just seems to pass it all through…

fruitstick · 04/06/2022 22:38

Honestly it's so stressful. He's just over 12 months. I've tried really hard to train him but he's an absolute savage.

He knows when it's. 'Training exercise' and is as good as gold, but as soon as my back's turned he takes the smallest opportunity.

OP posts:
Motorina · 04/06/2022 23:03

He's 12 months old. 12 month old dogs are horrible! I have a 15 month old, and we are just - I hope and pray - starting to come out the other side.

He will grow out of being a twat.

BiteyShark · 05/06/2022 06:31

It's so hard isn't it.

My cocker ate a rag which we didn't know about and it caused a blockage and needed emergency surgery.

He has eaten other things but they were small enough they passed through.

The latest one was he seemed to be having indigestion issues for several weeks and then eventually vomited up half a tennis ball that had been in his stomach all that time.

Dogs are a menace to themselves.

A small ball of tin foil would be a wait and see for us but as other said keep an eye out for any issues.

Dogs are scavengers by nature and it's really hard impossible in some cases to train that out of them.

I would maybe look more at environmental management for now - for example my beagle isn't allowed in the kitchen at all as he's such a scavenger. We also use lots of child locks and a baby gate to keep him out of certain parts of the house.

I don't think my home has ever been so tidy Grin
