Just want to preface by saying she is booked into the vets for Tuesday morning.

Ddog has hair loss, she's been scratching a lot, and now I'm noticing red sores at the bits she's losing hair. Ddog 2 is fine and they basically live to cuddle each other so I don't think it's something contagious. Any ideas on what this could be?! Google has scared me a bit. Thank you!

Any changes in food? Or old dog got hair loss/spots and itchy when he ate anything with chicken in, he had an allergy.

Northernsoullover · 16/04/2022 13:34

Ringworm?

FrightorFlight · 16/04/2022 13:41

Where about is she itchy?

Bunnybingesoneggs · 16/04/2022 13:42

Last year our dhusky moulted very early then grew back a full coat!! When that struggled to shed she got 2 hot spots. Needed antibiotics.. Cost £90... Cold green tea dabbed on helped the itching before the meds kicked in. Google some pics and compare. Then see a vet in Tuesday..

wetotter · 16/04/2022 13:42

Generalised or in one or two places?

Nope, she is on a strict no-grain & no-chicken diet already though as she's allergic to both

@FrightorFlight

Where about is she itchy?
On her sides mainly at the back, near the back of her belly. Her hair has very quickly fallen out on one side. The red scabs are new though and might have only appeared because she's scratching, not sure.

She does have anxiety so at first we thought it might be a new anxiety tick but now I'm not so sure...

Thank you, they're not that, more like small scabs - rising up from the skin rather than below the skin (well probably below the skin too). Sorry probably didn't explain that very well!

Oh we've already tried some special soothing cream and a bath. Both worked a wee bit but not much.

It could be an environmental allergy with the changing seasons?
Does she wear a harness or anything that could be rubbing on her skin?

Lorrymum · 16/04/2022 14:25

Hibiscrub is excellent for soothing skin infections

Oh that's a very good point!

She does have a harness and she has just started going out more regularly (anxious rescue)... maybe that's something to do with it.

This is the perfect time of year for allergies to rear their heads unfortunately!

You can give Piriton to dogs but I would speak to the vet first to make sure you know what you're dealing with.

Thanks - hopefully it is just allergies and the vet will be able to recommend something on Tuesday :)

That's most likely what it will be at this time of year, especially as your other dog is absolutely fine :)

bare · 16/04/2022 14:59

Is she a rescue from abroad? This is how my dog's Leish presented at first?

She is but she's been in the UK for about a year and a half now - how long did it take for it to present?

I'm afraid ours took 5 years after he arrived from Cyprus 😔 if you search on FB for Living with Leish, they have fantastic advice on what tests you should ask your vet for. Lots of U.K. vets are not that familiar with it.

bare · 16/04/2022 16:18

It won't be contagious as we don't have sand flys in the U.K., so don't worry about your other dog.

Oh my god! Did he recover? I've seen puppies with it, I know how scary it can be :( Thank you for the advice
