Dobermann, Newfoundland, Irish Wolfhound, St Bernard or Leonberger?

We’re considering these 3 breeds. Not sure which one to go for!

Our dog will be going on 1 hour walks daily with longer walks on a Wednesday and weekends (and very long - all day walks probably once a fortnight).

I want a dog that can be offlead safely (With training of course).

I want a friendly dog that can be trusted with children (I don’t have children at home but I have a toddler grandchild who visits once a week).

I want a dog I can take on holiday with me.

I want a breed who is responsive to obedience training.
I am inexperienced dog owner. Last had a dog 20 years ago.

Must be a large dog.

I would hate to have a reactive dog (my last one was dog reactive hence why I’ve been put off getting another for so long).

We have a training school in mind and would be doing KCGC awards.

Dobermann, Newfoundland, Irish wolfhound, St Bernard or Leonberger??

Or an English Setter? If you like grooming how about a rough collie? Or for another big dog but they always seem very gentle, an Airdale. There is a very small elderly lady near us who has two huge standard poodles - they are rather glorious

Irish setter. I can't think of a negative thing to say: the kindest, most athletic, eager-to-please and beautiful dog that just makes everyone smile.

@villainousbroodmare yes 💕 So many oriole would stop me with mine to admire her, smile and fuss her

I have an adorable fluffy giant dog and I think you need to have a better understanding of the exercise requirements of the breed you are interested in. Mine is now getting old and isn't interested in going out at all in the heat of the summer and also dislikes the rain - the conditions need to be just right for her to want to go out and there is no way I can coerce a large dog to do what she doesn't want to do! They are real home lovers and no comparison to my Jack Russell, who will stay outside whatever the weather and walk for miles. The grooming is very time consuming and they do create mess but she is the most loving dog so it is all worthwhile.

As far as children are concerned, mine is over enthusiastic in her love of children and has knocked my grandchild over occassionally but would never intentionally hurt anyone. She loves people and does have a deep dislike of being left out so will howl if shut in anywhere alone. She sleeps upstairs for this reason and would get in the bed at night if she was allowed.
