@GuyFawkesDay

Twas a proper Fenton moment 🤦‍♀️🙈
🤣 I forgot that video existed until right now!! Just had a watch again!! Job’s f@cked by that point really isn’t it…
Blahblahblah40 · 14/03/2022 21:04

@Stretchandsnap 😍 what a beaut! Ohhhh you and I are experiencing the same thing, you’ll see from my post earlier today I’ve reached a max of 20 mins 😂. It’s exhausting having a needy pup isn’t it.

Aria20 · 15/03/2022 08:04

@Stretchandsnap oh he's so cute.
@GuyFawkesDay jeez so scary you lost him, clever he made it home though! Let mine off for first time in 2 weeks after spay and recall was very hit and miss - I guess making the most of freedom! She walked nicely home though... seems like we have good walking or good recall....

when does the teenage phase end?!

GuyFawkesDay · 15/03/2022 13:24

Dunno @Aria20bit Sheesh, not soon enough! Was brave and let him off on the race course and actually he was fab. Didn't recall once but I don't think he could hear the whistle as I was upwind and about 40m away. As soon as he did hear me when I went closer he came back.

He did finally sleep in longer than 6am this morning though 🤣🤣🤣😱

Aria20 · 15/03/2022 15:40

@GuyFawkesDay we had much better recall in an empty field today but as soon as I spotted another dog coming in I quickly recalled her and got her lead on before she saw and ran over!

Blahblahblah40 · 15/03/2022 16:23

@Aria20 @GuyFawkesDay lively to hear your pups are having good days. Reminds me that they can be good sometimes!! Blahpup has been horrific today, no sleeping, biting me wanting to play when I’m trying to work, not listening when on his lead for walk. Really struggle to cope when he is like this. Can anyone tell me if this is normal while they are teething???

Blahblahblah40 · 15/03/2022 16:23

Basically is it normal or is my dog just a little sh*t… 😂

tizwozliz · 15/03/2022 16:44

Between 5 and 7 months was definitely the worst time behaviour wise for us, coincided with teething but not sure if related or not.

Pup is a star on walks at the moment, I've been walking her past people, bikes and dogs without jumping to put her lead on when I spot them in the distance. She still generally doesn't listen when out and about and is more interested in the world than any sort of training but she listens when it matters, i.e. recall so I can live with that for now. I can't even get her to sit unless it's on something these days (tree stump, bench etc.).

I'm hoping some of the gundog training will just click at some point. I'm sure a lot of it is down to my training ability/appetite, so much nicer to go for a walk than spend half an hour trying to get her to do some training exercises so I let a lot of things slide. I remember it took forever to teach her down on command rather than a hand signal and then one day she just got it.

@GuyFawkesDay - we're going to look out for those essential treats when we're in Denmark next month.

Blahblahblah40 · 15/03/2022 17:01

@tizwozliz thanks for the reply. He is 19 weeks tomorrow so good to know it’s not anything I’m doing wrong. He just does not listen despite numerous “No”s and ignoring him. Doesn’t help that he is a headstrong wee pup too so I end up having to put him out the room. I’ve been doing focus exercises with him the last week which is helping a little when he sees people on his walk which is good, and have been playing/training when I can, but today has just been a complete write off for his behaviour and my day job! Just hoping that once he reaches 6/7 months it will calm down a bit.

Autumn101 · 15/03/2022 17:12

Blah - total little sh*t here today too, currently waiting on a street corner for DH to pick us up as his walking is that bad today 🙄🙄

Blahblahblah40 · 15/03/2022 18:18

@Autumn101 thank you so much. I really feel for you but at the same time it makes me feel better IYKWIM?! 😆

Aria20 · 15/03/2022 18:32

@Blahblahblah40 it definitely does get easier when they can go on longer walks to tire them out then they sleep longer and you can actually do some work. However, there will be different challenges along the way!
@Autumn101 oh dear what has happened on your walk?

Autumn101 · 15/03/2022 18:54

I do get what you mean Blah, it’s nice to know they all struggle at times!!

Just crazy crazy pulling today to the point he was nearly belly on the floor and panting loads. We’ve had a good few days but this afternoon it all went rapidly downhill 😂 I was worried he’d hurt himself and nothing was working to calm him down so we gave up. He’s doing so well at all other training and is in general a lovely dog who I adore but walking nicely is definitely going to be our major challenge

Aria20 · 15/03/2022 18:57

@Autumn101 have you tried a "perfect fit" harness and a double ended lead clipped on the chest and back rings? I found it helped a lot with pulling - except for when she sees a squirrel or cat!

Autumn101 · 15/03/2022 19:01

Aria20 - yes I got one this week but it’s a little bit big for him still, we were going to wait a few weeks to grow into it but I think I’ll be at Pets at Home tomorrow when they open to get the smaller one 😂

Blahblahblah40 · 15/03/2022 20:55

Agree, the double ended lead is sooo good! I still get some pulling (obvs) but it makes a marked difference. Made the mistake today of just doing loose lead on the back. He was double ended by the time we were on our way home! 😂

Autumn101 · 16/03/2022 15:57

Someone swapped my dog in the night - he’s been the best he’s ever been on the lead today 🙄🙄😂😂

Haha! This happened to me last week… my advice, don’t trust him. 😂 Blahpup been diabolical this week so will be discussing that at training class on Friday.
Blahblahblah40 · 16/03/2022 16:54

Oh I forgot to say well done to him though @Autumn101 ⭐️ and sausages

GuyFawkesDay · 16/03/2022 20:22

Agree. FawkesPup was angelic last week I was all "what a good, well trained boy"

This week? Flappy eared arsehole. Despite perfect fit harness and double lead has dragged me round the local national trust place. On the long line he jumped into the river then zoomies like he was doing the gravity wheel.

I could merrily have left him there today.

TerrorPup was fairly nastily attacked by another dog this morning. I'm very grateful they were both on leads as it had the potential to be so much worse - by far the most aggressive and sustained reaction I've seen from a dog in a long time. I think we have a small puncture wound it mainly got her harness from what I could tell. What was worse was we were at a busstop with probably 6-8 children at the time and one could easily have been hurt accidentally.

I'm also utterly fuming as another dog owner approached me immediately afterwards and said she's seen that dog do similar before, then I bumped into another few dog walkers about 10 minutes later and they said it had been off lead and attacked one of theirs, they'd had to kick it off and we're heading to the vets as there's was injured. I completely accept dogs can have bad days, reactive dogs get trigger stacked etc but I do think that dog shouldn't have been walked in that location/at that time as it is known to be a popular spot with dog walkers plus the school run.

TerrorPup seems completely unaffected, I'm still shaking two hours on and running through the whatifs.

Oh my gosh you must be so upset. Big hugs to you both. Poor Terrorpup, you will be anxious out walking for a while no doubt. Do you or the other dog walkers know who the owner is? If so I’d report to the police personally as it should be muzzled especially if letting it off lead. As you say, lots of kids around so can never be 100% sure of behaviour if the dogs is reactive. I’m lucky I live in a small community so could track an owner down but if you’re somewhere densely populated that’ll be harder. Local vet may know?

Blahpup got a fright yesterday on our walk, we were passing a house and 2 big labs in the garden started angrily barking/growling at him. They were both also actively trying to get under the gate to get to him showing teeth. Blahpup squealed and bolted so that’s when I knew for sure it wasn’t a normal excited doggy bark and couldn’t get out of there fast enough!! Honestly, if they had got out there’s no way in hell I could’ve stopped 2 fully grown labs. Scares me tbh as I’ve never seen a lab react that way to another dog, puppy or not.

Autumn101 · 17/03/2022 12:24

Poor TerrorPup, was a horrible thing to happen. What an awful owner too letting that dog off a lead, it sounds like it should be muzzled really if it attacked off lead too. I hope pups ok xx
