@LadyCatStark how are you finding your dog's excitement levels with flyball? I'd love to try it but I have such a bouncy dog, I think she might get too over excited. She gets zoomies doing agility so we are focusing on doing it in a controlled way at the moment. One apparatus sit and treat, next apparatus sit and treat etc. But maybe it would be perfect as she loves running and loves playing fetch with her ball.

Aria20 · 30/06/2022 09:06

@ilovesushi mine would also prob love fly ball but nothing near us and like you I think she'd be too over excited and stimulated by it!

TerrierOrTerror · 30/06/2022 09:31

We've just moved to Eden and TerrorPup is absolutely thriving.

We were on Wolfworthy which we did love and recommend, but we found each batch varied and we had a few bags which looked and smelt burnt and didn't agree with her.

Aria20 · 30/06/2022 10:31

@TerrierOrTerror we had some burnt ones with Millie's wolfheart too which I think put her off them.

It's such a minefield. Plenty of dogs seem fine on supermarket own food or bakers etc and are keen to eat it lol but mine seems to have sensitivity along with fussiness so we need no chicken, no beef and no grain or she gets really itchy and ear infections and upset tummy. Just want a dog who is happy to eat!

tizwozliz · 30/06/2022 10:42

@Aria20 - we're fortunate that we've only got fussiness to contend with, and don't have to think about allergies and intolerances as well.

Ada is like an addict awaiting a fix if we get a tennis ball out on a walk, which is why I'm not sure about flyball!

GuyFawkesDay · 30/06/2022 13:00

@Aria20 mine has same! Maybe it's a Spanner thing?

The pooch and mutt we use is turkey only and he seems to do well on it. We use wet too and add salmon oil a few times a week

FawkesPup is definitely on the mend. There was at least some shape to the 💩 before it went runny again and the godawful stench has gone. He's now STARVING and full of beans so I am hoping we've turned a corner and normal poops are on the horizon again. He practically inhaled breakfast (he's normally not fussed really) so that's a good sign 🤞

tizwozliz · 30/06/2022 13:16

I do feel misled though by everything I read beforehand that said use kibble for training. I spend a fortune on treats and chews!

OP posts:
Aria20 · 30/06/2022 13:29

@tizwozliz haha yes mine is the same if she knows I have a ball in my pocket! But once she's got the ball she's deaf and just runs laps of the field - not even bothered about fetching it just running with it!

Aria20 · 30/06/2022 13:31

And yes @tizwozliz all those posters saying use kibble for training, use their daily kibble allowance for teaching loose lead walking etc... well mine would never ever had done anything for kibble!

certainshepherdpups · 30/06/2022 15:06

My pup seems better today (touch wood). He's had a couple of small meals of boiled chicken and rice which he has wolfed down.

It's interesting reading about feeding issues. When he was younger my pup was delighted to eat anything put in front of him. I could use kibble for training and he was thrilled. But a couple of months ago he started turning up his nose at his regular food. I think it coincided with his growth slowing down. I haven't changed his food because he will always eat it eventually but it's no longer as exciting as it once was. I've definitely had to bring in some more appealing treats for training purposes.

Yamyam13 · 30/06/2022 17:15

Yampup just ate 2 whole eggs (raw) as she nicked the box off the counter...
Hope the repercussions arent too grim!

tizwozliz · 30/06/2022 17:38

I forget how old/big Yampup is but Ada was having the occasional raw egg, shell and all, from the day we brought her home so think you should be fine.

The raw chicken breast and the half block of butter she stole had absolutely zero effect either. She's only fussy with dog food it seems, she's a bit of a food thief when it comes to human food.

GuyFawkesDay · 30/06/2022 18:11

FawkesPup often ignores breakfast in the hope of stealing human food instead.

The kids give him shreddies 🙄

Suzbug · 30/06/2022 19:11

Not been on here for a few weeks now. IndyPup is now 6.5 months and doing amazing. Much calmer and doing great with our young DDs. Generally doing some good off-lead walking and playing.

Tonight I'm pretty sure he ate a human poo on our walk. He came out of the bush and I just knew....the smell! Absolutely rancid! We've thoroughly hosed his mouth out. We'll wait and see how he is over the next few days but I'm expecting a dodgy tummy!

ilovesushi · 30/06/2022 21:02

@Yamyam13 our doggo loves eggs. I sometimes crack a raw egg plus shell on her food. I'm not sure why I started doing that but she LOVES it and no ill effects. They are super fresh local eggs so I'm pretty confident about the quality and freshness.

Aria20 · 30/06/2022 21:34

@Suzbug that is gross I hope not too bad an upset tummy!

My dog is not a fan of egg either. So bloody fussy! Tried raw egg on her food - nope just wasted the lot, tried scrambled and omelettes which she picked at but didn't particularly enjoy.

Today I didn't even bother offering breakfast, she picked at dds left over cheerios and milk - but then had runny poop. Instead after a long walk after school run I gave her brunch at 11ish and she ate it all - not in a bowl obviously had to be mixed in her bowl and then transferred to her lick mat! Then again I didn't bother trying to offer dinner at usual time, waited until she'd had her evening walk and sure enough she ate her dinner at about 8pm - again on lick mat after her walk.

If I didn't have young dd and could bring both walks forward so she could have meals at normal times that would be better... especially for when she goes to the dog boarder in a few weeks as she does meals at 8am and 5pm lol but for now at least she's eaten today!

GuyFawkesDay · 30/06/2022 22:17

FawkesPup spent today with a friend as DH had to travel for work (happens once in a blue moon!)

They raise guide dog puppies. So he's spent today with a very energetic 6 month old retriever. No naps were had. He's absolutely knackered. Never seen him this sleepy 🤣

His tummy is very gurgly again. Now I know that when I have had an off tummy if can be like that as it starts to, ahem, solid up again so I am hoping as he's eaten well today he might be better again tomorrow 🤞

He was very good actually. He does sometimes get the zombies at agility although he’s settling down now. I think it’s a bit more controlled than agility as the trainer held him until we were ready to call him to us and as it’s a straight line rather than a ring, there’s less scope for going rogue 😂. The best thing was bringing one of those tuggy toys like they use on crufts.

Thanks for the reassurance!
No major repercussions thankfully, aside from a soft poo a brand new shade of beige..!
Yampup is just turned 8 months.
She is a text book Lab and eats everything she possibly can other than plain rice!

Yamyam13 · 01/07/2022 14:19

Spoke too soon... yampup let go of an absolute stinker on sofa which is often the precurser to diarrhoea, then started whining, so i whipped her outside for a quick walk and she had a very runny pooh.
Just as the cone came off and her eye got the all clear!

ilovesushi · 02/07/2022 13:14

Had a successful recall this morning! We were walking sushipup off lead in an area where we never usually see anyone and suddenly a couple on bikes with a young lab appeared. With the owners okay the two dogs a bit of a play and then I managed to call sushi away. She ran up to me and did a beautiful sit. Success!

FuckingHateRats · 02/07/2022 18:39

Hoping I can join! Maggie, a mini labradoodle, joined our family today. All going very well - she is remarkably settled (fingers crossed this continues tonight!)

Maggie looks adorable! Hoping you get a good night's sleep tonight. Will you wake up to take her out for a wee or are you leaving newspaper down for her to go on? We did the waking up and it was a killer but fortunately those broken nights didn't last for too long.

FuckingHateRats · 02/07/2022 19:55

Yes, I'm going to sleep downstairs and set an alarm to take her out.

What time do you think I should take her?

She's been so good with toilet-training. We got her at 12pm and she's had countless wees and two poos in the garden, and only one wee on the kitchen floor.

Aria20 · 02/07/2022 20:09

@FuckingHateRats she's so cute!
