What kibble do you use?

We’ve just moved ours off AVA onto Arden Grange sensitive fish.

What do you use kibble wise? (No raw bores)

Millies Wolfheart. HRH, Queen of Fussiness and her own Dominion likes the Utility, Gundog and Duck & Veg varieties. She has this separately from their wetfood as she prefers to not mix textures... I'm sure she's not a real labrador

Sounds like our dogs are related! My lab also eats those flavours, she will contemplate them mixed but it's taken us 5 months to find something to mix with that she'll consistently eat. She will eat them dry, but only out of certain puzzle toys, not from a bowl!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 15/02/2022 19:45

My fussy terrier likes Crave, we have tried a few others (JWB, Harrington's and a fish based one) and he turns his nose up.

I often use a bit of crave as a mixer as fussy terrier won't eat dry biscuits so I get any higher quality meat and mix a spoonful through so she has to really eat the biscuits as the small amount of meat kind of coats them. I find it quite hard to get hold of at times though and they seem to have stopped doing the smaller foil trays annoyingly as a can lady's ages and I often end up throwing some away as it doesn't look to fresh. It's definitely her favourite one though I think it's very meaty
liveforsummer · 15/02/2022 23:38

I mean the wet food though, I didn't actually know they did a kibble

sofakingcool · 15/02/2022 23:54

Edward and Cooper - lots of diff flavours but we tend to stick to salmon as I've noticed an improvement in her chewing her paw pads

She loves an egg, so I might try some of the ideas on here about topping her food with egg/sardines

Alonglongway · 16/02/2022 00:03

Both my dogs have sensitive stomachs and we’ve settled on Harringtons

sweetkitty · 16/02/2022 00:10

Millie’s Wolfheart range of flavours DDog is not fussy though she would eat anything

Imabouttoexplode · 16/02/2022 00:20

Used to use lily's kitchen but moved on to edgard cooper and barking heads.

Yorknees · 16/02/2022 00:25

Another one for Barking Heads. Comes in smaller bite sizes for our Yorkie.

StillMedusa · 16/02/2022 00:32

Canagan... but always has a little topping of cheese/ham/chicken slices.
Plain kibble gets a 'no thanks!' here. (she may be a bit spoilt!)
I liked Orijen but it was too rich and went straight through her!

littlepeas · 16/02/2022 06:56

Skinners Field and Trial - puppy chicken for our 12 week old lab and maintenance for our adult golden retriever - he has also got on well with Harringtons in the past.

Our trainer told us that if the dog is not working you should only use food that is no more than 20% meat. Has anyone else heard this?

Wow really? I've always thought the more meat the better Shock
OneOfTheGrundys · 16/02/2022 07:44

Burns sensitive duck and brown rice.
Works a treat for farty tums and their coats are lovely. Has fed ours into ripe old ages.

Definitelyrandom · 16/02/2022 08:26

Re the 20% meat that’s likely to be referring to 20% maximum protein in kibble rather than wet food. See earlier posts for comments. Certainly with retired greyhounds that’s traditionally thought to be the case.

Ah yes, didn't see your earlier comment - I think I meant protein, rather than meat. Our trainer is quite old school - trains gun dogs only and picks up at shoots with her own dogs - but is incredibly knowledgeable and it did make a difference with our golden, who was an utterly obnoxious teenager.

He'd been on a high protein Mille's Wolfheart previously - me assuming more meat better.

He's a pet in an active household, but still doesn't need the same energy as a working dog. The skinners maintenance is 18% protein.

@HeresMyName1

Are vets trained in nutrition in the U.K.? I’m not sure . There’s another food comparison run by nutritionalists petfoodexpert.co.uk

. We use a mix of kibble and fresh food here , as ddog loves it when I add a sardine or egg and leftover veg.

Gosh I m it st have imagined that entire lecture stream in first year and the second one on clinical nutrition in fourth year. Yes vets do get nutrition training and many both further training as CPD or even as part of a further qualification.
aloe987 · 18/02/2022 15:23

Used Orijen until recently when staff at Pets Corner told me Canagan is much cheaper and has very similar nutritional content. So far so good.

muddyford · 18/02/2022 19:45

Adult on Chudleys Classic, puppy on Royal Canin but swapping to Chudleys when second bag of RC runs out. And yes, it's true that too much protein can cause obnoxious behaviour.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2022 19:51

Chappie. He was a really sicky, runny poo puppy after being terribly infested with worms. Our vet told us to try chappie as that's what he fed his dog and it worked straight away.

He's 10 now and still doing well. He's a border collie

bingohandjob · 19/02/2022 17:58

Guru for our one year old lab. He's been on it for a good few months now and loves it. He's got a lovely, calm nature, beautiful shiny coat and he has (sorry if TMI) firm, regular, easy to pick up poos - so he's got into a really good digestion routine it seems too. We often mix it with a little warm water to give it a 'gravy' he devours. We tried a Tails trial bag but not only did he turn his nose up at it, it was also a surprise just how much in volume it recommended compared to Guru which seems to keep him full and content (as much as a walking food bin lab on legs can be) .

GiantCheeseMonster · 19/02/2022 22:24

Wolfworthy. Very nutrient dense so you only need a small amount. Dog loves it.

AyeEee123 · 19/02/2022 23:00

Green Pantry for my two.

allgreythings · 20/02/2022 11:27

@HanSB could you take a picture of the size of the Orijen food. Can’t see online and our dpup struggles with large bits of kibble

PuppyMonkey · 20/02/2022 11:38

Millie’s Wolfheart riverside mix here. My golden retriever started on Royal Canin but had awful stomach upsets every couple of weeks, we were getting quite concerned and the vet just said stick with Royal Canin food, it’s one of the best yadda yadda.

Saw Millie’s recommended on here and gave it a go. He’s been on it two years now and has literally never had a tummy upset since.
