Aaaaagh, rescue called me back about a dog!

I'm trying really hard not to get over-excited!

Even though DH and I have agreed to wait till we move to a bigger house in a couple of years, I still keep an eye on local rescues, just in case the "perfect" dog for us appears - and last week, he did.

I called the rescue expecting him to have been already snapped up, but no, he's still available. I had a phone interview, and send them a video of our street, house and garden, and I'm waiting to hear.

I know it might not come to anything - I haven't even told the DC, and won't unless the rescue want us to meet him, but god, I hope they chose us. He just sounds like the most perfect boy for us!

Maybe Fenton?? Who didn't love him??. Grin

Aquafizzle · 22/01/2022 18:24

Awwww you found eachother - it's fate. Love Teddy as a name... good luck the little boy will soon be part of your family !

MazzleDazzle · 22/01/2022 18:32

Great with kids, cats and other dogs? The holy grail of rescue dog. Grin

Fingers crossed it all works out for you OP! You’ve given me hope that we might get lucky one day too.

Fastforwardtospring · 22/01/2022 18:34

How exciting, I love the name Eddie, as PP pointed out, Teddy is very popular name. Good luck I hope you get him - what a lucky boy!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 22/01/2022 18:35

Aww this is exciting!

MrsBaublesDylan · 22/01/2022 18:49

Or Freddie or Dougie?

Let us know as soon as you have news. Don't waste time telling dh/kids, we need to know asap op!!!

MrsBaublesDylan · 22/01/2022 18:54

When I got my soulmate he was a year old and had been called a very unusual, hard sounding name. He was scared of his own shadow and it just didn't suit him.

I renamed him Bunny (long name Bunny Bun Buns) and he says it is perfect for him. And yes, we do have conversations all the time.

Aaaaagh, rescue called me back about a dog!
Riapia · 22/01/2022 19:38

Ask if he’s OK with people wearing jeans. 😁

QueenofLouisiana · 22/01/2022 19:40

@Riapia Grin Grin

FatLabrador · 22/01/2022 19:44

Stick with Eddie as a Frasier/Bottom tribute and it will suit him if he is a bit of comedian as most dogs are.

Honeyroar · 22/01/2022 19:48

We were waiting until we finished the house before we got a dog.

The house still isn’t finished and we’ve had five dogs over the last 13 years! Loved them all. Who needs a finished house??

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/01/2022 20:12

Bunny is adorable, @MrsBaublesDylan!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/01/2022 20:21

Ha, maybe I'll stick with Eddie then! DH is a fan of Bottom, so might like that

How about Richie ? Its got 2 syllables and ends in an "Ee" note like Eddie
( I don;t know about dogs but our cats only answer to the food being dished out )

I always do a New Name For A New Life with all our animals , never kept a name

Good Luck Grin

OhM8 · 22/01/2022 20:23

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

His name is Eddie, he's around 12-18 months, he's playful and sweet-natured, great with kids, not bothered by cats, friendly with other dogs (there are dogs in the wider family), and small to medium in size.

Looks-wise, he's basically Doug from Up! 😍

So he's perfect!

Do it do it do it!

GlacindaTheTroll · 22/01/2022 20:25

Stick with Eddie in honour of Meatloaf

tinselvestsparklepants · 22/01/2022 20:35

Our perfect girl was adopted a whole month after we moved house. The timing could have been better but she couldn't! Good luck with Eddie - sounds like he has potentially found a lovely home.

Caaarrrl · 23/01/2022 09:55

Don't change his name to Teddy! Eddie is so much better. I agree with PP, you hear so many teddys when out walking. I much prefer more unique names for animals. I'd tell you my dog's name but I'm sure it is completely unique and would out me immediately.

Santahasjoinedww · 23/01/2022 09:56

Any news op? Just here for the pics and celebrations!

Caaarrrl · 23/01/2022 09:57

I should also add, don't get too excited yet because it might not work out and I would hate for you to be convinced that Eddie is to be yours and for it to go wrong.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 23/01/2022 10:22

Not yet, but I did tell the rescue we'd be out all day (it's DD's birthday and we're going into London to see Six) so they might not call today.

Still hopeful though!

Aw good luck 🤞🏼

PermanentlyDizzy · 23/01/2022 14:01

Good luck OP!

I wouldn’t worry about timing too much. We found ddog on a rescue site when he was a pup and despite me feeling a strong pull and desperately wanting him, dh and I decided we couldn’t take on another dog at that time (we already had two plus 18 month and almost 3 yr old ds).

Complex series of events ensued, which I won’t bore you with, but he ended up coming to us anyway and is still here 16 years later!

Same with our other lad that we lost in 2020. Fell absolutely head over hills with him online whilst actively searching for a rescue pup. Despite us meeting all the homing criteria, the rescue wouldn’t reserve him for us, as we had a holiday planned - even though we have our own holiday home and our dogs go on holiday with us. I mentioned on another forum how disappointed I was (didn’t mention the specific rescue or pup). Received a pm from someone I knew through a different rescue, asking if I would be interested in a pup her friend was fostering and it turned out to be him! We then communicated directly with his foster family and he came to us straight after our holiday. Felt like it was just meant to be.

If it’s meant to be, it will happen.

Ellmau · 23/01/2022 14:51

Good luck, he sounds lovely!

liveforsummer · 23/01/2022 15:57

Place marking for Eddie pictures 👀

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/01/2022 11:54

Rescue aren’t going to let us have Eddie, they think he needs a bigger, more secure garden to run around in as he’s such a live wire. They said they’d be very happy to give us a dog, but they don’t think he’s the right one for us. 😢

I understand their POV, and our "garden" is really just a little courtyard, but I'm still very sad.
