Carrying bag full of poo

Any better ways to carry a full poo bag? Found some bum bag type things on amazon but the thought of stuffing a full bag in there doesn't fill me with joy.
We walk quite far some days and I end up carrying a bag most of the walk due to lack of bins. There must be a better way!

Could you bag it (in a biodegradable bag) then place it somewhere that definitely won't get trodden on? (Which will break down naturally like all other animal waste.)

What's the point of bagging it, if you are just going to leave it! Just kick it under the hedge in that case.

I don't really see the hardship in carrying it until you find a bin.

@MrsLargeEmbodied

i hung a poo bag on a tree with every intention of picking it up on the way back, no bins on walk - went back a different way, a picture of the bag made the local newspaper Blush
If you went a different way on your way back you clearly had no intention of picking it up, surely?

We just carry ours with us but we have a very small dog so it's not really a big deal for us.

Obviously this will depend on what kinds of places you dog walk. (Definitely not appropriate in a park. But in a large woodland it might be?)

It makes more sense to flick it into the bushes with a stick if you're not picking it up. 'Biodegradable' bags really don't break down very quickly at all.

@girlmom21
no i had intended to

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 03/01/2022 07:22

Please don’t leave bags full of dog poo on trees or hidden in the bushes. That is disgusting.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/01/2022 07:22

ok @Ritasueandbobtoo9

Why can't you put it out of sight until you go back for it?

Nothing spoils a walk more than having to look at bags of shit hanging from trees. Gives me the rage.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/01/2022 07:34

Buy a 'lantern stick' or make your own using a long stick with a hook on the end. Then hang the poo bag on the hook.

Has a second use for fending off unleashed dogs and weirdos.

It's not a very picturesque sight for those following behind you even if you had picked it up on the way home. If I'm out for a stroll enjoying nature that is a sight I'd rather not see. Surely you can see this is pretty grim. Pretty selfish actually. 🤢
girlmom21 · 03/01/2022 08:06

@WhatIsThisPlease she never went back so it makes no difference

BeyondMyWits · 03/01/2022 08:13

I just carry it, or them... Ddog will go more than once on a big walk, if we see other "heaps" we pick those up and carry to the next bin too, and litter... I seem to be always carrying a bag of something to a bin, it is no hardship.

You go back and collect it about 10 mins later. You don't just leave it there. That's the point.....

At least it wasn’t personal.

Hanging the bags on bushes is stupid because everyone knows people don’t like coming back for them.

I think putting the bag in a container that seals up well like an old ice cream tub (like a pp said) would be the best way to carry it.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/01/2022 08:25

i have never done it since folks, no need for this vitriol against me, it was a one off mistake - shamed by the local paper, but yes, not personal, no name and shame at least.

VaguelyInteresting · 03/01/2022 08:26

I’m appalled by how many other dog owners are leaving bags of shit under bushes or hung from trees!

I have a wolfhound. His shit is not dainty. So I understand carrying your dogs poo is a bit grim- but honestly I’m more grossed out when I see bags of shit hanging from hedges and trees- & no, it doesn’t matter if it’s been there 10 mins or 10 days.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 03/01/2022 08:30

I am always seeing bags that clearly have not been claimed and no intention of being claimed by dog owners. They end up in streams and elsewhere and I have had to dispose of them myself on many occasions. It is extremely selfish behaviour and really environmentally unacceptable.

GuyFawkesDay · 03/01/2022 08:31

I hate seeing hanging poo bags too. And have been known to bag up other dog's poop too and dispose of it. No excuses for leaving it, it's dangerous to humans and to farm livestock.

Double bagged, on the doo-kee and on my walking bag (which is a cross body one) and no issues at all. Dog isn't interested in it. That said dog is quite small so o am not carrying big bags of poop round, so others may have to use a different method for that!!

Lightningrain · 03/01/2022 08:34

I use a Dickybag too. Great for long walks - it has a clip to attach fo your bag or belt loop. They aren’t cheap but ours gets used a lot so has been worth it.

It’s particularly good when you’ve travelled in the car to a walk and haven’t come across a bin before the end of the walk. It keeps the smell contained in the car on the journey back.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/01/2022 08:35

i dont think anyone particularly likes seeing dog poo bags in trees! Grin

must say i see less nowadays,
just the very occasional bag on the ground, which annoys me, when I know it is not far to the bin, and sometimes i believe the wind takes them into the bushes
an icecream tub or some such is a great idea

Wolfiefan · 03/01/2022 08:44

I have two @VaguelyInteresting! I use the largest size dicky bag. It’s grim seeing bags hanging and lying about. If it’s too gross to carry with you then isn’t it too gross to leave lying about? The dicky bag clips to my dog walking bag. Contains any smells and leaves my hands free.

Camembear · 03/01/2022 08:48

At least you made an effort though. I’m sorry I was rude with my comment. I’d feel bad seeing something like that in the paper too.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/01/2022 08:52

thanks @Camembear

Plumedenom · 03/01/2022 09:03

Do you know why I don't have a dog? Because I don't like carrying round poo. I'm pretty annoyed that other people who have chosen to have a dog and are choosing to leave poo under bushes in plastic bags for any length of time and saying they can't afford to pay thirty quid for a dickybag to solve the problem. That's what gives dog owners a bad reputation.

GoodSister · 03/01/2022 09:13

Exactly what I do
TheVolturi · 03/01/2022 09:57

Going to Google Dickybag thanks! Those saying it's not really a hardship to carry the bag, it is really when it can be a mile or two and I need my hands free for my three young dc as I'm usually on my own with them. Also keeping dog on the lead, as often through farmland, it's tricky.
