Can a puppy/dog be raised in two houses?

My husband and I are separated, and have two DC. One of them is quite little so they spend 48 hours at each house more or less.
We got a puppy and my idea was that it would move between households with the kids.

Now I am being told by some people that this will confuse the dog and not to do this.

I would like to know your thoughts please, there is so much contradictory information out there!

Thanks.

sounds like two houses for the puppy to be happy and secure at

Now, what's this swapping stolen thing with a treat? Will not this reinforce the stealing? Because at the moment I too take things off his mouth

Ooh, please stop doing this. He may tolerate it as a puppy but as he gets older he won't want things just taken off him.

Imagine if you had your favourite thing and someone 10/15 times your size came looming over you and grabbed it without warning - you'd not be impressed. Now, imagine this happens over and over again - eventually you would snap and tell the person to fuck off Wink

That would be what happens with your dog. He may tolerate it now but eventually someone will take something high value off him and he will get fed up and snap.

You want him to associate your approach with good things (treats or other toys) not with the fact that you're going to put your hands in his mouth and grab things off him.!

Thanks, I've put this in practice just a few minutes ago :)

Maybe ask the vet for their opinion but I think it should be okay providing you have the same boundaries ect. X

That's a good idea, he is going on Tuesday for last vaccine.

My neighbor has done a training course and sees nothing wrong with the two homes, but then again, her dog is not the best behaved!
