What dried food does your dry-food hating dog love?

Ddog is pretty fussy about food generally - bit of a nightmare tbh even with wet food.

Ideally I would like to move to dried so that we can do scatter feeding as enrichment activity - but so far she's rejected Wagg and Millie's Wolfheart Turkey and Veg (the smell was .. intense!)

Would also be very interested to hear if your dog spurned different wet foods but you then found The One. So far we've had best luck with Morrisons premium grain free but I wouldn't say she loves it. Has rejected forthglade and Lily's, liked Butchers and Chappie for about a minute each but then went off both.

Ddog1 would never dream of eating dry food as is (unless he is stealing puppy kibble when we have a foster), but has Burns sensitive or Hunger of the Wolf.
On wet food we have to rotate it between Burns (all varietys), Naturo grain free and his favourite, shamefully, is Chub roll which is always eaten. If he doesn't have it too often he'll eat Butchers in gravy as well

pigsDOfly · 03/12/2021 12:58

My dog can't eat dry food, even low fat ones, it upsets her sensitive stomach.

Although, having said that, I've only ever tried one, same make as the low fat wet food she's on, as I prefer to feed her on wet food.

Surely, if your dog doesn't like dry food, it would make more sense to stick with wet food, if you can find one your dog likes, and do other enrichment activities that don't necessarily involve food. Although, maybe you could stuffing various things with wet food and get her to find them.

BobbieT1999 · 03/12/2021 12:59

Tried all the expensive stuff because we love our Precious Pampered Canine but the only one we he will consider is Wagg lol

thesunwillout · 03/12/2021 13:01

James wellbeloved turkey and rice.

She has a very sensitive tummy, it's grain free and works for us.

Lottie7777 · 03/12/2021 13:01

Only one my dog has ever eaten more than one bite of is purina bakers meaty meals. It’s a softer texture dry food and was recommended to me by another fussy dog owner.

twinkletoedelephant · 03/12/2021 13:05

Mine wouldn't eat much of anything, he tried nearly the whole selection wet and dry at the petshop and just wasn't interested at all...we tried the free tails (yes I know its not brilliant for him) but he ate the lot and still eats it everyday. Dh introduced him to the idea of "toppings" on his food so he now waits for a teeny bit of whatever we are eating before he scoffs the lot...his favourite is a spoon of gravy dribbled over :)

God mine too! Tried loads of expensive ones and my dog only likes this crap! Bloody philistine. :-D
StormyCornishSeas · 03/12/2021 13:11

StormyDog likes Canagan. It costs a fortune but happy dog happy owner and all that.

JMPB · 03/12/2021 13:13

Nope! I never found a fry or wet my dog liked. Ended up moving to raw, he loves it and will do ANYTHING for it. Wasn’t ideal but it’s what works for my fussy eater.

Algebraicyourleg · 03/12/2021 13:17

The only one our dog stomachs is a local one called Heights Farm Pet Supplies, the salmon and potato. Had real trouble with his stomach and him turning his nose up at everything so we asked about and a few people recommended this one and it has been ok for the past 3years and I’ve even moved my cats onto their dry cat food!

MerryMarigold · 03/12/2021 13:35

Nice to know my dog is not only fusspot. Only dry she likes is the cat's dry food (I let her have a little bit and make a treasure hunt on floor for her). I stopped buying her dry food as she never ate it so it was basically all being chucked. In terms of wet she sort of likes Caesar pate (not the ones in gravy or with veg), seems to prefer Aldi own brand pate and Lidl own brand pate (the ones in small trays). That's about it. Tried so many and she just leaves them, doesn't even eat them when hungry. After a couple of days I cave. Also give her our food at times which she likes and usually eats if I feel she's getting a bit too skinny.

ilovesushi · 03/12/2021 14:02

Ours turns her nose up at anything chicken or turkey based. She will go for darker meat/ game based kibble. She seems to like Canagan both the Highland Feast and Country Game one. It is expensive but the portion sizes are quite small so not as eye watering as it first appears.

XelaM · 03/12/2021 14:52

Dried freeze food. He loves the Nature's Variety complete food. It's dry good but doesn't look like ordinary kibble and is more nutritious

XelaM · 03/12/2021 14:52

Dry food*

bloodywhitecat · 03/12/2021 14:56

Wolf of Wilderness is the only food we have found that DDog doesn't turn his nose up at after a few meals of it, he particularly likes the soft versions.

Ruibies · 03/12/2021 15:04

Ours had 2 types, can't remember the first but the second was James Wellbeloved, she wasn't enthusiastic about them at all, would eat it but wasn't really motivated by it. We moved to Royal Canin Hypoallergenic as she had some allergy issues (not food related in the end, but the vet wanted to tick every box) and she LOVES it. Goes mad for it. We had never seen her bouncing and drooling for food before we put her on this. It's more expensive and she doesn't need the hypoallergenic-ness, but she loves it so we stuck with it.

fishewoes · 03/12/2021 15:06

Ours will only consistently eat Aatu. It's grain free and has a large % of meat in. She refused all other kibbles after 7 days of eating them, but she's eaten aatu for over a year now.
Look on www.allaboutdogfood.com for the highest meat % dry foods and they'll usually stick with them.

Joystir59 · 03/12/2021 15:13

My dog has tried them all from.the cheapest to the most expensive. He can't read the impressive list of ingredients so doesn't care that they contain herbs and vegetables and grass fed organic animals, as far as he is concerned dry dog food is inedible

FrenchyQ · 03/12/2021 15:20

I've struggled with finding a dry food that my little dog will eat. But I finally found one that works...Yora, it's made from bugs and he loves it😀

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/12/2021 15:24

DDog is a People Food aficionado. The most wonderful, fresh, delicious dog food would be rejected for any People Food which falls on the floor. I attribute it to his street dog genes.

Nanasueathome · 03/12/2021 15:27

AATU, salmon and herring
Have to hide it from my dog as she has been known to steal a newly opened bag, take it up the garden, and eat the lot in one sitting

InTropicalTrumpsLand · 03/12/2021 15:35

If you can afford freeze dried, that could work as a treat, especially once it's licked and the smell starts coming out. My absolutely fussy Ddog also loved stealing Farmina's N&D from the cat (but refused to eat the dog version, presumedly because it's no fun without forcibly pushing dcat to the side). She also particularly enjoyed dehydrated pig lung [vom]

HavfrueDenizKisi · 03/12/2021 15:40

DDog quite likes Royal Canin her breed specific one.

Or Virbac which we have do get via the vets.

She will eat it dry but really likes it if I rinse it in boiling water then drain the water off immediately. Gobbles it up then!

*subject to change, of course, coz she's a fussy poodle!

Backhometothenorth · 03/12/2021 15:57

DDog only eats grain-free dry food it seems. Loves lilys kitchen and will eat (randomly and v much cheaper) Harrington's grain-free.
