What dried food does your dry-food hating dog love?

Ddog is pretty fussy about food generally - bit of a nightmare tbh even with wet food.

Ideally I would like to move to dried so that we can do scatter feeding as enrichment activity - but so far she's rejected Wagg and Millie's Wolfheart Turkey and Veg (the smell was .. intense!)

Would also be very interested to hear if your dog spurned different wet foods but you then found The One. So far we've had best luck with Morrisons premium grain free but I wouldn't say she loves it. Has rejected forthglade and Lily's, liked Butchers and Chappie for about a minute each but then went off both.

Harringtons.

Royal canin for her specific breed.

She loves it and we make it a "meal" like we have by adding toppings
Either egg, chicken, beef, fish
Then carrots or veg and sometimes a bit of fruit for dessert Grin

I couldn't deal with raw feeding and after a memorable poop pick up, my husband said he'd divorce me if I ever fed the Ddog canned dog food again. Confused

I am SO glad I'm not the only one, and I am laughing at all the broken dog owners who have caved to either really expensive, or raw or the dog equivalent of Turkey Twizzlers every day. This is my life too.

Too many other people to do it individually but thank you all SO much, this has given me many new things to try, loads of which I hadn't even heard of (I will start with the ones that do a sample pack OF COURSE)!

Randomly mine chose www.jollyes.co.uk/brand/lifestage

CalamariGames · 03/12/2021 20:02

My dog seems to like pooch and mutt food and their treats www.poochandmutt.co.uk/products/calm-relaxed-dry-food we got it to go in an activity ball as she also has some wet food and she enjoys playing with it and getting the food that way.

Fredstheteds · 03/12/2021 20:05

Butter box has a good write up

tandt5 · 03/12/2021 20:07

Another vote for Canagan. Expensive but I buy it in big quantities from their website.

AcrossthePond55 · 03/12/2021 20:23

Hill's Science Diet sensitive stomach.

We went through at least 5 different brands, including breed specific Royal Canin, and Hill's is the only one he'll eat.

Chudleys Salmon suits her delicate constitution and she likes it too. She always has a topper of some sort - leftover steamed veggies, tinned sardines (twice a week max) tinned butchers etc but she is happy to eat the dried food out of her puzzle toys.

Floralnomad · 03/12/2021 22:24

We tried loads of different foods before we could find something our fussy dog would stick with and that agreed with his delicate intestines but have finally stuck with Millie’s wolf heart Ranger kibble mixed with Applaws chicken in broth ( in the small tins ) .

It's it made of wolves' hearts? Shock

Wolf of Wilderness soft food goes down well with my dog, although she is not keen on the ordinary Wolf of Wilderness kibble, which she drops out of her bowl on to the kitchen floor, I put it back in her bowl and she finally condescends to eat it at lunch time. Otherwise she also enjoys a dry food from Purizon, which has thinner and smaller pellets.

Worth trying some of the softer food maybe, as it could be the texture/hardness that's the issue?

Orangesox · 04/12/2021 08:57

Millies Wolfheart Utility Mix with their Salmon and Veg or Turkey & Veg wet food on top (basically, she loves anything with Fish). But to get her to eat a full meal, she has a few pumps of Salmon oil on top and she absolutely demolishes it.

SourMilkGhyll · 04/12/2021 09:00

It might be the size or softness of the pieces.
We had success with Eden tiny sized pieces. Also Aldi or Lidl (can't remember which) moist meaty chunks went down well.

We currently mix with tinned but am trying to reduce the amount of tin.

PermanentlyDizzy · 04/12/2021 13:21

Mine isn’t fussy, but currently his absolute favourite kibble is whatever the brand is that the squirrels are stealing from someone locally and burying in our garden!

For scatter or snuffle feeding I measure out his allowance of Skippers training treats and little gems and a handful of Thrive Chicken pieces. I actually buy the large tubs of Thrive cat treats as it works out a lot cheaper.

Only one my fussy one will eat is butternut box. Haven't found a dry food he'll eat yet

Cherrypies · 05/12/2021 00:51

Tried a few, for my two, Pooch and Mutt, has gone down the best, had the relaxed and calm, as getting a bit older, have now got the joint one, they relish that one too.

CrumpetswithMarmite · 09/12/2021 07:26

My pup is super fussy too. Rejected Lilly's kitchen both wet and dry after a week of enjoying it. Liked forthglade for a few days and went off that. Canagan is great but he went off that too..! So far we're two weeks in Nature's Variety and he is finally eating every time! He always loved their freeze dried treats and we thought it was worth trying the kibble and it has been great. Very good quality food. He's currently 5 months but in future will bring some variety for him by mixing kibble with freeze dried and potentially butternut box.

I do find he likes variety so I will sometimes give him wet food with it and sometimes I won't.

I feel your pain OP. Been through it all! I have also now noticed he prefers eating from a plastic bowl - I don't think he liked the chink noise of his tag hitting the bowl... That might be worth testing too.

FlipFlops4Me · 09/12/2021 11:28

Our two love Pooch & Mutt small dog - there's a huge variety of flavours to choose from, but only one for small dogs. However, ours adore it and it goes down honey sweet. They will eat Barking Heads dry food but with a good few stares of reproach.

Branleuse · 09/12/2021 11:35

Mine is fussy but really likes Crave dog food, or bakers complete (the soft chunks mainly) Hmm. Theres also one of the royal canin ones she will eat at a push.
Most dry dog food she wont eat though

Paddingtonthebear · 09/12/2021 11:36

Mine is eating Sainsbury’s own grain free dry food at the moment. And their wet food. She is fussy and will probably go off it and we will have to swap around again but she seems happy enough for the last few months.
