Stopped and asked to see poo bags - is that acceptable?

Was walking dog today on the grounds of a housing estate (nothing fancy, but the green areas are managed privately, yet it is public accessible land and permitted for all dog walking nontheless) and the maintenance operative said, 'We've had some incidents here with people not picking up and I take their photo and get them prosecuted, so can I check do you carry bags?' Me, 'Yes, definitely, gives the rest of us a bad name, no excuse!' smile and nod. Him, after a long pause... 'Well, can I actually see them then?' 'Er...ok', show bags. Now, though, I'm feeling peeved that he didn't trust my word and at his rather bullish attitude (also thinking he was emboldened by the fact of me being a woman and younger than him).. Should I take it on the chin, or was he being OTT?

@IntermittentParps - A further derail but when eldest DS was at junior school they did a quiz to raise funds. DH was the person who read out the questions - people were chatting in between rounds and he asked them to be quiet & then said ( with a microphone ) It is only your time you are wasting and then he said " I have always wanted to say that since I was at school " - it got a laugh. I think these phrases resonate with many Grin

Anyway It was so nice for you to say we can agree to disagree. I think we both want the same outcome i.e. no dog poo left where it makes a nuisance for some one else. Just tiny disagreement about how we get there. & I am not in favour of the Nanny State ( if that is still a phrase ) - but happy to spend 2 seconds getting bags out. But I appreciate others would not. Short of having hovering helicopters to check on people's dog picking up not sure what you do . But I am cross with those who do not pick up or leave the bag somewhere inappropriate - it gives dog owners a bad name . 2 months ago ( I live in a small terraced house directly onto pavement ) I had to go out and clear someone else's dog poo right outside our front door. Shame on those who do it.

@wolfstarling

I have been asked before by local council officer and I think you get a fine if you don't have enough bags.
I wonder what is enough bags to be carrying so as to not be fined? I try and make sure I have four with me as we have had a two poop walk before and sometimes she has had 'difficulty' going which has resulted in needing to use three at one sitting. I like the tying them to the lead though. Really good idea. I'm always in fear of them falling out of my pocket.

@IntermittentParps Flowers to you too and Wine for this evening if it suits you ( well it is a weekend )

My niece and a couple of friends took dogs out this afternoon - sent them out with 7 poo bags - Not once were they stopped so hope was all OK.

Re stories from school - DH had to do a biology test once - multiple choice - a friend of his had his test thrown back at him from the teacher with the comment - worse than a monkey, boy ( so got less much less than 50 % ) - I suspect this is not in the teacher lexicon - but 50 years later Dh still laughs. I do not think that would allowed nowadays.

I’m sure asking people to see their dogs shitbags isn’t his favourite part of his job, so I’d let it go. It’d be different if he was a random busybody, but he’s probably getting it in the neck from his bosses and people who live there complaining.
