When not asleep or out walking? Ours likes to chew, dig and generally demand attention!

Scrounge for food, especially the cats when it's been left somewhere accessible.
'Help' me in the garden. Just now she has been making sure I've been mowing correctly by walking in front of the mower.
She will probably 'help' me with dinner too later, seeing if she can get some veg peelings when they fall to the floor.
She might warn me about people walking outside.
Sometimes she chases our younger cat. Sometimes she gets beaten up by our older one.

Spudlet · 10/10/2021 17:00

Looks for things to chew. He has many chews of varying flavours and textures, but you never know if something new might turn up. He is only 5 months old though so chewing is definitely high up on his agenda at the moment.

SamMil · 10/10/2021 17:04

My dog (13) enjoys barking at the world, scaring delivery drivers, sleeping, licking things he isn't allowed to, and occasionally chasing the cats.

TooWicked · 10/10/2021 17:14

Zoomies, patrolling the kitchen for any dropped food, chasing the squirrel that keeps appearing in our garden, barking at people walking past our house (how very dare they!!), scratching at us for fuss/petting/treats, ragging and shaking his stuffed toy partridge around the house.

LadyCatStark · 10/10/2021 17:18

Chews his chews/ toys/ bed.
Follows us around the house.
Tries to kill his toy rabbit.
Patrols the garden fences.

icedcoffees · 10/10/2021 17:47

Chews his treats.
Barks at next doors' dog.
Follows us everywhere in the hopes that we'll feed him.
Cuddles up to us on the sofa.

He's really chilled in the house, though. He sleeps most of the day unless he's eating or out for a walk, lol.

dnac · 10/10/2021 17:56

Thanks. Glad to see the same sorts of behaviour. I was just wondering when they ever just…chill and watch a movie or read a book or something instead of being on high alert!!

@dnac our puppy turns the TV on every morning! No idea how, I guess he just noses the sky remote til it turns on and it automatically turns on the TV too. He likes the Animal Planet channel, David Attenborough documentaries and something like Dogs With Dangerous Jobs. His favourite animals are the big cats. Oh and he loved watching show jumping at the Olympics. He loves horses in real life too.

LadyCatStark · 10/10/2021 19:54

He can only concentrate for a couple of minutes though but he’ll flit around and come back to it.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 10/10/2021 19:56

I have a GSD so he Supervises, with a capital S, because obviously no one (usually me...!!) is to be trusted to just get the hell on with anything without his constant maintained Supervision.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 10/10/2021 19:59

also, we have just moved and have people walking by the window now, and he is quite horrified that they are NOT being Supervised sufficiently.

Occasionally he'll do a small woof, but mostly he is just outraged that they are outside without adequate surveillance.

bingohandjob · 10/10/2021 20:02

9 month lab. He's very good at occupying himself with a chew ( ostrich bones his favourite in terms of ones to eat and he likes hollow rubber toy ones kongs etc), happily mooches about following us around the living room, kitchen and garden. Lately he's been very happy to curl up on one of our laps on the sofa and just chill - it's been delightful. He's been great off lead in a secluded field, good recall, good checking in. He's like this probably 80% of the time.

The other 20% he's digging in one particular spot in the garden like his life depends on it, zooming and running his muddy little paws all about, pulling like a train on his lead, totally ignoring me on his walk.

All in all he's a really lovely natured, loving pup. Smile

Hairyfriend · 10/10/2021 20:03

Our friends dog steals carrots and eats them raw.

He also picks up rocks on the driveway, mouths them, sucks and chews them, then plays with the rock!!! This is despite having ample toys and balls to play with Confused

MrsRobbieHart · 10/10/2021 20:06

She will follow me from room to room incase I am eating a snack without supervision. Or incase there are any loose socks to be rounded up. She likes to sit in the garden and sulk with the cats because they won’t come down off the roof to play with her. Occasionally she will drop a ‘power pellet’ in the garden which gives her a massive burst of energy and she zooms up and down the garden until she is out of breath.

MrsRobbieHart · 10/10/2021 20:07

She also likes to stand on the sofa to look out the window and check if there are any dogs playing in her park. Then she tells me about it with great urgency.

RandomMess · 10/10/2021 20:09

Sleep 🤷🏽‍♀️ seriously she's either hoping for food, eating, hoping for a walk, walking or sleeping. She never does that "milling around" that Victoria Stillwell goes on about when you can train them. TBF she's not the brightest the pooch.

puffylovett · 10/10/2021 20:14

Mine waits patiently for you to get shoes out of the cupboard, then just as you think you’re safe she nicks one and prances around body wagging like a little wiggly prancing pony.
Then when you manage to retrieve it she replaces it with a sock or the pair of pants she’s thieved out of my sons floordrobe.
Then stares at me unremittingly and unblinkingly while I go to the loo or until I feed her.
Then once she’s been fed she deposits a toy at my foot because obviously it’s playtime now!
Then she curls up next to me on the sofa, because I cannot be allowed to be alone, ever Grin

Theworldisfullofgs · 10/10/2021 20:14

Mine collects socks, it's like stamp collecting for those without opposable thumbs.

EcoCustard · 10/10/2021 20:16

At the moment the apple tree
At the bottom of the garden is a huge interest. They regularly patrol for the fallen fruit or dig under the fence to get those that fall the other side. One loves to watch the pond, spends hours doing that. Steals the kids soft toys and hides them. Has cuddles with the kids and tries to steal snacks. The other is mostly attached to me. They sleep more now as they are older. They go out to work with DH on some days too.

RandomMess · 10/10/2021 20:17

I forgot sunbathing, she follows the sun around the house (indoors) and sleeps in the sun.

dollywoodlooksgood · 10/10/2021 20:19

Mine is a lurcher so he doesn’t do much 😂.
Likes Zoomies and Tennis Balls. Will occasionally steal bread or similar…

PieonaBarm · 10/10/2021 20:30

@TooWicked

Zoomies, patrolling the kitchen for any dropped food, chasing the squirrel that keeps appearing in our garden, barking at people walking past our house (how very dare they!!), scratching at us for fuss/petting/treats, ragging and shaking his stuffed toy partridge around the house.
If he wasn't asleep next to me on the chair I'd think you had my Border Terrier with you!!
17CherryTreeLane · 10/10/2021 20:33

Ours does similar. Mainly on high alert for people walking past the house - how very dare they! Barking in response to our neighbours dogs barking, but his favourite activity, is to put things he's not allowed in his mouth, then only give them up in return for a suitably high value treat.

CMOTDibbler · 10/10/2021 20:34

I have lurchers. They are asleep 99% of the time tbh apart from mooching round the garden to snack on chicken poo. But even that doesn't happen if it is wet or cold.

TheVolturi · 10/10/2021 20:43

If unsupervised in garden, he digs. Apparently he'd quite like to visit Australia by the looks of things. If inside he likes to people watch from the upstairs window. Or bombard us with cuddles. 10 months old Shihtzu.
