How often do you bath your dog?

In the winter and in wet periods, we bathed our dog quite regularly as he got muddy (cockapoo with curly coat). However, it's been much dryer lately and I can't think when he was last bathed. I'll give him a bath this weekend but I was wondering how often people bath their dogs when they are not obviously dirty?

My dog has this weird habit of starting to wee and then deciding he actually wants a poo so he ends up pooing down his back leg 🤢 there is no way he's not having a wash if he has poo on him.

Tbf he's not done this in a while but he probably does this or rolls in something gross at least once a fortnight.

In the winter he gets v v muddy and can need washing off every day. I avoid using shampoo though, just use water unless he's v gross!

He's a terrier, medium length fur.

Every 2 weeks - weekly in winter

They sleep ON the bed

One dog pods left type coat, every 6 weeks at the groomers and in between if rolled in fox poo etc. If wet / muddy just gets a towel rub and brush down when dry

Other dog short haired and sleek coat, mud never seems to stick and not much of a roller either, gets a regular brush and towel dry if wet but not had a bath in 5 years

Generally, I figure a brisk rub down if they've been out in the rain or swimming is enough.

Muddy paws get wiped.

Spot washes with a wet towel for 'problem' areas when necessary.

Very occasionally - eg if they've rolled in an animal carcass - then it's hosepipe and dog shampoo time.

But I certainly wouldn't bathe them routinely - bad for their skin.

I don't bathe my lab generally but she has a nice river swim and a rub down. I don't think it's good for dogs to have lots of shampooing etc.

Thank you I appreciate all advice because it's an ongoing struggle for 9 years and I'm always looking for possible solutions. Especially because washing him all the time is a massive pain in the butt, especially when it's multiple times a week!

Unfortunately weaning off bathing is something we have tried before and it failed spectacularly. He immediately got horrible itchy yeast infections all over which only get resolved with special shampoo. We have seen 3 different dermatologists now for other solutions but they all insist on the weekly washes on top of the immunotherapy, apoquel, cytopoint, dermascent,megaderm and anti allergic food he is already using 😟

Reading on here about people washing their dog once a year or even never is giving me so much envy!

Willow dog is 11 and never had a bath, he occasionally has a strip wash with a flannel if he has rolled in.poo. I just sniffed him and he doesn't smell, I do wash his blanket every couple of weeks and the chenille throw on the sofa he resides under as he classes himself as "delicate" 😁

Mine has a quick shower maybe every 3 or 4 months, other than that only if she's got so muddy that I can't get it off without one. She hates it, just stands there all sort of sad and resigned until its over.

Feet washed every day in wet weather but that's about it. Mine don't like getting wet or particularly dirty. Not interested in swimming, rolling in things or getting caked head to toe in mud thankfully, so they'll get a bath every six months, max.

Ddog gets 1 bath a year at Christmas.
