Best dog blanket for sofa

puginamug · 23/08/2021 22:55

Our puppy is not currently allowed on the sofa, despite his best efforts.

I'm happy for him to be on the sofa but want it to be with permission, not him leaping on. I also want to minimise the hair and dog smell.

Do you have dog blankets for the sofa? Ideally I'd like to buy 2 or 3 and wash them regularly.

Is fleece best or something more woolly?

I just buy cheap fleece blankets - his favourites are the teddy bear fleece ones from Dunelm!

Wolfiefan · 23/08/2021 23:43

With permission? Once they’re allowed up they kind of assume permission.
Ruff and Tumble??

Clymene · 23/08/2021 23:46

If you really do have a pug, they're sheddy little sods so I would buy fleece blankets and change them regularly. Fur doesn't stick to fleece. Your washing machine won't thank you though

Girlintheframe · 24/08/2021 07:38

I got some throws from ikea. Cheap as chips but look quite nice.

Els1e · 24/08/2021 07:53

Another vote for fleece. Easy to wash and dry

MuttsNutts · 24/08/2021 07:56

Fleece definitely - easy to wash and dry. I wouldn’t recommend woolly blankets because their claws tend to catch in them.

wetotter · 24/08/2021 08:07

I have a fleece blanket, and a thin knitted waffle-looking throw.

Anything that can be washed will do

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2021 08:44

Don't get actual waffle though, not claw compatible IME.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2021 08:48

Fleece usually doesn't look or feel nice after a lot of washes. If it's a small sofa, one alternative is a thin duvet and a few covers - they're easy to wash hot without them being degraded.

Bakewellisntjustacake · 24/08/2021 09:03

If you've got ££££ then this. My friend had one and it's fab!

Get a laundry bag from Amazon to put them in, stops the fur clogging up the machine.

Oh thank you. I don't have a pug but I do have a ridiculously fluffy cat
womaninatightspot · 24/08/2021 09:22

If you hang them over the line for a day or so before you wash them all the hair drops off. I suppose a good shake outside would do the same but it makes me sneeze and I'm lazy. Blowy up north Grin

Soozikinzi · 24/08/2021 09:38

I have one from paws and presto that's very easy to wash and I just tuck in where pooch sits .

Floralnomad · 24/08/2021 10:17

Primark do cheap fleece blankets that are perfect for the dog , they wash well and tumble dry , our dog has a huge collection that he keeps in his bedding cupboard .

ErrolTheDragon · 24/08/2021 11:54

Did anyone else just read the last few posts and visualise pugs and cats done up in laundry bags or hanging from washing lines?

thenightsky · 24/08/2021 12:13

Don't do what I did... Heavy cotton throw that the washing machine refuses to spin at all, ever. Weighs an absolute ton when I have to lift it out to dry over the garden furniture. Can't put it on the line, as the weight would snap it.

puginamug · 24/08/2021 14:01

This is excellent thank you.

Question - what happens to the hair in a laundry bag? Doesn't it then just stay on the blanket?

I agree with wolfiefan, unless there is some magical trick I’m missing once allowed on once or twice dogs assume they have permission to hop on whenever they fancy.

Floralnomad · 24/08/2021 19:41

@puginamug you turn it inside out in the garden and shake it .

This is lovely but yeah - pricey!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/08/2021 08:21

That one looks like it turns the sofa into a dog sofa, with a bit of room for a person to sit on the end.Grin

Ridingthegravytrain · 25/08/2021 08:35

I use vet bed as you can just vacuum the hair off it
