What info should and should not go on these? Thanks!

I have my surname, house number and postcode, my phone number.
Not the whole address or my dog’s name.

Shapesorted · 03/07/2021 20:17

We have surname, postcode and phone number.

didldidi · 03/07/2021 20:19

Surname, house number, postcode and mobile number

GinPink · 03/07/2021 20:19

Is there a reason not to put full address abs dogs name on? Is it incase they're stolen?

BiteyShark · 03/07/2021 20:21

I have surname, first line of address and postcode. There is only so much space to put information and that really is all that is needed for someone to reunite them with you.

Lifeispassingby · 03/07/2021 20:23

There are legal requirements for what to include- a quick google check will tell you

BiteyShark · 03/07/2021 20:25

Actually forgot to say I have phone number on it which I think is the most important thing.

Helenluvsrob · 03/07/2021 20:25

As s as I’ve. Definitely not the dogs name. Though my surname is a make name so they might think it’s that 😂

NaturalStudy · 03/07/2021 20:30

I have my postcode and mobile number. That way if someone finds him close by my house they know they are in the right area without having my actual address, or could take him to a vets in my local area to have his chip scanned. I have this embroidered on his collar so that it can't fall off like a tag and you can read it without having to physically catch him.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/07/2021 20:35

I have a slide tag on my youngest dog's collar. The side facing upwards has my mobile number. The side that you can't see unless you slide the tag off has our address.

DeathByWalkies · 03/07/2021 20:36

My surname, first line of address, postcode, mobile number

Name and address are legal requirements. Mobile number will get a lost dog back to you much quicker and allow the finder to avoid the inconvenience of having to take your dog somewhere.

Mine also wears a second tag which has info for the family member who dog sits in a different town.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/07/2021 20:37

There are legal requirements

Dora26 · 03/07/2021 20:38

My mobile no and husbands mobile with surname on one side, “I am microchipped and spayed “ on the other

PollyRoulson · 03/07/2021 21:17

Legal requirements are name and address of owner.

Although obviously the phone number is sensible addition

30degreesandmeltinghere · 03/07/2021 21:18

Ours has 2 mobile numbers and nowt else..

Floralnomad · 03/07/2021 21:20

I have surname , house number + postcode and mobile number , no idea if that is the legal requirement but as our tag is on a harness and not a collar ( dog doesn’t wear a collar when out ) I’m illegal anyway .

Motorina · 03/07/2021 23:30

@30degreesandmeltinghere

Ours has 2 mobile numbers and nowt else..
Unfortunately not legal.

Mine has surname/address/mobile/landline on one side. On the reverse, SPAYED/parents number/vet number/REWARD.

probably overkill, but…

Motorina · 03/07/2021 23:30

By address I mean House name/postcode, not the whole thing.

GinPink · 03/07/2021 23:52

Thanks all, I think my main query is why owners tend not to put the dogs name on there...? Is that a theft thing? Back in the day every dog seemed to have its own name on its tag?

OP posts:
Motorina · 04/07/2021 04:55

The theory is if a thief calls their name they will follow them.

Mine would follow quarter of an inch of dried spaghetti or one piece of cat kibble, so I’m not sure not having their name is much protection. But it does mean I can use tags interchangeably if one gets lost.

DeathByWalkies · 04/07/2021 07:37

The fact I routinely shout his name across the park also rather negates the fact his name isn't on the tag, from a dog theft point of view!

Fwiw the rings they come with are flimsy AF. I lost DDog's first tag in 24 hours that way. Swap the ring for a much sturdier keyring and you'll be much less likely to lose it.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 04/07/2021 08:08

Re flimsy rings, that is why I use slide tags. They work on buckle collars, though you can get a version to bend over a clip collar. I lost multiple hanging tags, have never lost a slide one.

PollyRoulson · 04/07/2021 08:57

^^ this agree I only ever use slide tags.

Indigo tags or Flexitags are great depending on the collar.

OP yes people do not put the dogs name on the tag so people can not call the dog away from you or walk as if they know the dog using the dogs name.

GinPink · 04/07/2021 11:24

Thank you all Smile

Those both look good, @PollyRoulson - worth adding to the 'dog stuff' info.

We use these from Identitag which are brass; they also do them in chrome.
