Or if you’re going to someone’s house (or garden at the mo Grin!) and want to enforce a nap which we need to do...if we didn’t take it she’d just keep going and going and get crazier and crazier!

Claire347 · 15/05/2021 23:22

Love all the fur baby chat and the pictures! Mine is nearly 3 and I love her to the moon and back but she was such hard work as a puppy (they all are, but Rosie was a level I had never been on before) and I cried a lot! So that’s ok too 😂If anyone is looking for general advice let me know!...and so I can fit in here’s a wee before and after pic xx

Hi Claire, I have a 4 month old border collie. It would be great to hear from someone who has been through it. We are actually doing ok for far but I hear such negativity from a lot of people with regards to collies that it freaks me out a bit. Even the dog trainers we have spoken to have a bit of a negative slant to everything like they aren’t sure how to train her or telling me she is likely to have various issues - car chasing nipping etc. I would be interested to hear how adolescence went for you and if you spayed her yet?

17CherryTreeLane · 16/05/2021 08:51

Bit worried about cherry pup - he's been sick this morning and had diarrhoea on his walk last night. Not sure if it's just because he's eating everything he can find on walks!

PugInTheHouse · 16/05/2021 09:19

@17CherryTreeLane pugpup was the same when he was younger, he always had a dodgy tummy, the vet gave us probiotics which really helped. Also a while later when we changed his food we realised that his food actually didn't suit him but he had always been on it so we knew no different.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 16/05/2021 09:19

Poor cherrypup! It's quite possibly to do with eating something he shouldn't, do you know what he's eaten? Is it worth a vet check? Maybe see how he is for the rest of the morning.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2021 10:36

Hope cherrypup’s tummy is better soon.

So we left PoirotPup to sleep downstairs alone on Friday night. We’ve been sleeping on sofa and he sleeps in crate with door shut after wee at 11.30 until at least 5.30. Friday was fine didn’t wake until 5.30 as usual (had baby monitor on). Last night woke at 2.30 and did little cry so I went down opened crate he came out for 2 seconds then went straight back in and back to sleep but I stayed down. Didn’t know whether to have just gone back up again or not. Happy to sleep downstairs and don’t want to let him cry. Think we’ll just keep going up at 11.30 and seeing what happens maybe?

17CherryTreeLane · 16/05/2021 12:58

Thanks all - he seems to be up to usual mischief so I'll just keep a close watch. Getting a pup during the peri-menopause maybe wasn't the best idea ever - I'm so anxious!

@MrsHerculePoirot we've being doing similar but he's really turned a corner the last few nights and has been sleeping 10.30 to 6am. I'm not sure if it's because we're walking him later in the day. That's the only thing that's changed, other than him just being a bit bigger.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2021 13:37

What time are you walking him? Obvs need to do EXACTLY what you’re doing 🤣

17CherryTreeLane · 16/05/2021 13:39

@MrsHerculePoirot lol, I'm sure it's just a fluke and he'll be back to waking up again tonight!! We've started walking him at 7.30pm. Tires him right out!

MonaChopsis · 16/05/2021 18:52

@LadyCatStark he's gorgeous 😍 Here is our beautiful girl, less than a week to go now!

Hi again everyone. Wee-related question. Again!

How long is everyone’s puppy going between wees?

Redpup is (adorable and) going every 2-2.5 hours now at age 13 weeks. Sometimes every 3 hours but then he hops back so we’ve been caught out a few times. I’m just wondering at what pace this tends to stretch out. We started out at 9 weeks going every hour so I’m certainly not complaining! How often do “grown ups” tend to wee? He’s a miniature schnauzer if that makes any odds.

RedLem0ns · 16/05/2021 21:41

Oh and may I just say @MonaChopsis- squeeeeee!!! Look at her little feet😍

LadyCatStark · 16/05/2021 22:08

@MonaChopsis oh she’s lovely ☺️

Turquoisesol · 16/05/2021 22:18

Seeing every 2-2.5 hours seems quite infrequent to me. I haven’t timed it but must be every 1.5 hours or so. We still get the odd accident so I try to get her out to the garden lots just in case.

MrsHerculePoirot · 16/05/2021 22:59

@RedLem0ns that’s probably similar to here. 13 weeks also. Think PoirotPup has a bladder of steel though. He usually goes just after he wakes up and sometimes again before he goes back to sleep but not always. He goes at 11.30 pm (forced!) and then doesn’t go again until 6.30/7!

MonaChopsis · 17/05/2021 08:40

Thanks @RedLem0ns and @LadyCatStark... It's amazing how personally proud I feel of how gorgeous she is, almost as much as if she were my actual child Grin

shaniashania · 17/05/2021 09:19

Hi all, I keep getting the Absolute Dogs sexier than a squirrel program come up on my Facebook feed. I'm tempted, I just wondered if any one else has tried it?

LadyCatStark · 17/05/2021 12:28

@MonaChopsis my best piece of advice is to buy this snake from Pets at Home! It’s great for chewing to sleep (and you can hold onto the opposite end to keep out of the way of those teeth!), it squeaks so you can squeak it to get her attention when you want to teach her to get onto her bed and as you can see, it’s necessary for cuddling!

LadyCatStark · 17/05/2021 12:29

Oh and when she gets the zoomies is fights back 😂.

MonaChopsis · 17/05/2021 15:53

LadyCatStark he's so purty 😍 How's your night time sleep going??

We have a frightening large array of puppy toys considering she's not actually at home yet Grin Bank balance can't take any more being purchased until the current ones are eaten used!

LadyCatStark · 17/05/2021 17:39

@MonaChopsis he literally can’t sleep without Mr Snake!

The first night was pretty horrendous but last night he went in his crate at 10pm with no fussing, I woke him at 1am for a wee and he went straight back to sleep no fussing but he was up for the day at 5am! He was so hyper I knew there was no point putting him back to bed so he had breakfast by doing some whispered training in the garden (he seems to like this better than having a bowl full!). Then at 6am he flopped in the living room on his bed and had another hour! It was too late for me to go back to bed though 🙈. He was woken up by DS getting up and went crazy as he was so excited to see him and kept biting everything which made getting ready very difficult! He then had another sleep at 8am and bloody DH woke him at 8:40 as he wanted to say good morning but then announced he needed to make some work calls just as I was trying to get dressed 🤬. Sorry that was a loooong summary of my morning!

MrsHerculePoirot · 17/05/2021 21:47

We have that snake and it is BRILLANT! Also a flirt pole someone on her recommended saves our arms and legs early on!

PoirotPup has conjunctivitis in both eyes, and was sick last night and nearly sick this evening.... seems totally fine in himself though. Wonder if he ate something he shouldn’t and we didn’t see?!?

Teenminds · 18/05/2021 11:19

Hi All,
Just marking my place as I try and read through some of the previous threads.

We have a 14 week old Labrador puppy, its not been too bad so far.

The main issues are settling him at night, at the moment we settle him with us on the sofa, then once he is zonked we transfer him to his crate for the night, which works, but sometimes its the time it takes for him to settle! and of course if anyone wakes him, and this could be a simple as someone opening the fridge then we are back to square one settling again.

A question I wanted to ask was do people carry anything with them when taking for a walk? We always take him out in pairs at least while walking at the moment, but eventually it would be nice for one person to take him, but the worry of dog theft is there?

Hightideattheseaside · 18/05/2021 13:59

Poor PoirotPup how he’s doing a better today @MrsHerculePoirot.

Hope the suit boys are back to their normal selves too now Smile

@Teenminds my Labrador pup is 14 weeks tomorrow! I always walk her by myself as it’s only me here, my DH works away. I also live quite rural so theft does cross my mind but I think the chances are remote. All the thefts I’ve heard of lately in wales have been from dogs kept in kennels rather than snatched from walks. Though I know that does happen.

No advice in the settling I’m afraid. HightidePup takes herself off to bed around 9pm! I have a very lazy Labrador that loves her sleep. Though I’m sure all that will change when she’s a teenager!
