Can anyone recommend a durable plush type toy?

DDog loves her soft suck toy but it’s now a carcass with half the stuffing missing. Looking on Amazon lots of reviews of durable ones are saying they aren’t actually that durable after all.

Any recommendations?

www.kongcompany.com/dog/material/plush
I'd go for a Kong, I've always found them hard wearing my boy used to love them, he was a mastiff too and they lasted a while

Frenchfancy · 29/04/2021 06:23

Frenchpup has a Kong bear that is still in one piece after 7 months.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 29/04/2021 06:28

Our Kong bear lost his face quite rapidly but the rest of him lasted quite a long time.

Girlintheframe · 29/04/2021 06:37

Fluff & Tuff are very durable.

Kong soft toys were ok, certainly lasted longer than ordinary soft toys but the Fluff & Tuff ones have been the longest lasting here.

Thanks everyone!

Buying exy specialist dog toys was a waste here. SandyDog had them gutted in a couple of weeks. Now, your toddler soft toys from the charity shop are a good buy. They do get eviscerated eventually but it takes years in this house.

Now I think about it, perhaps the specialist pet stuff just smelt wonderfully of everything a pet shop stocks.

Toddler soft toys you say? Like a teddy? I can’t imagine they would survive longer than an afternoon tbh. Stuffing everywhere kind of situation.

We have a toy destroyer and I would not give him normal children type soft toys as he would kill them instantly and probably eat something non dog safe . Kong Wubbas are very good , not plush but a sort of tough nylon , but our dog just chews off the extremities ( ears / antlers etc) but the main body remains intact . .

One of my dogs has adopted a microfibre neck pillow with velvety cover as her soft toy.
It has lasted months! Most soft toys are lucky if they last days.
I think the microfibre gives a bit of resistance for gentle chewing but she can't pull it out like the stuffing fluff used in toys.

longtompot · 29/04/2021 11:24

If you find one of these, they are indestructible! My spaniel was given it two Christmas's ago and it still looks like new. She plays with it loads.

We have the opposite issue in that our girl hates stuffed toys. She only likes them if the toy is unfilled. Which means they get destroyed even quicker 😬😬

Yep... but if you’ve a dedicated toy destroyer all the ones recommended last about a day, so per play charity shop toys are much cheaper.

Ones without stuffing usually do slightly better, though even those eventually the stitching can be unlocked to get the squeak.

My dog destroys everything in seconds except IKEA soft children's toys. We've had panda since before 1st lockdown and a couple of rabbits before that.

LadyWhistledownsQuill · 01/05/2021 21:25

This has lasted a surprisingly long time - and it has 6 squeaks, several of which are still working (!!)

yes to real actual toys...best ones ime are disney based

Ideally I only buy ones with embroidered eyes/noses and don't buy anything with beans in, once they have been hurtled around your house you will find them forever!

It does depend on the dog though...our shepherds have always been really good with toys, lots of shaking, pulling and biting if there is a squeaker, but the labs/grets are devils for destroying them without a by your leave...fluff everywhere!

Best ones I ever had were the Madagascar hand puppet characters, absolutely brilliant for pups and washed up like a dream! They were freebies with washing powder iirc!

LionPen · 01/05/2021 21:33

We have a Kong leather plush toy - they have a pink pig or a purple hippo and have managed to last my frenchie for years. Any other plush toy last 5 mins but the leather ones are really hard wearing and still soft

pheasantsinlove · 01/05/2021 22:35

My pup destroys anything plush. I bought 3 of the Ruff and Tuff range from pets at home that were described as for tough chewers. He destroyed all 3 literally in 5 minutes. I returned them and got a refund as they were clearly not fit for purpose... definitely not ruff and tuff!

So can't advise what to get as we've just given up with plush... but I can advise don't get the pets at home ruff and tuff range... it's shite!

UhtredRagnarson · 01/05/2021 22:38

Thanks everyone. Some options to try. Her duck is her absolute favourite thing so she does need a replacement.

Am I being too careful? When our poodle has chewed through a toy we've always taken it off him, because he's actually eating the fibres. I've spent a fortune on so-called tough toys and given up buying them now.

I would love him to have something to chew on at the moment because we're trying to keep him calm while he's recovering from neutering surgery and he's bored out of his mind, bless him.

Aprilshowersandhail · 04/05/2021 11:26

Nerf make great ddog toys. Even husky proof...

Depends on your dog.

I find most chewers want to disembowel it, once they’ve done that they’re not hugely interested in the loose stuffing.

If he eats it, you need to take it away... though you could try removing the insides at that point and giving him the skin back.

That’s a good idea!

My mum's dog love soft toys. I can recommend anything from the disney shop, they are solid. My mum's dog has a toy bear from there that has lasted 7 years and is held daily. It has only just lost a leg. She is a gun dog though so probably less rough than most, but still.

Same here, but strangely B&M plush toys have lasted months!
