well done for catching wee @Plantlover23 ! bet you never imagined that would be a skill you would develop!

PugInTheHouse · 19/02/2021 16:14

@Plantlover23 unfortunately pugpup is getting worse rather than better, if I leave him in the crate he cries the whole time if I don't leave him with the lickimat, so far have only left him 2 mins without it and he barks, cries, howls and rattles the crate. E also wee'd in it but I noticed that a while after so not sure when that was. I only leave him if he's just had a wee now as he can't be trusted. With a lickimat I can leave him for about 20/30 mins and he doesnt even notice I have left.

If I leave the room and he is with someone else he goes crazy and scratches at the door, eventually he will settle with them, he even went to sleep with DS2 earlier which I was surprised about. As soon as he heard me in the hallway the barking/scratching all started again.

I know I have to step it up but its so hard to do it when he gets so stressed, I need to keep at it.

PugInTheHouse · 19/02/2021 16:18

@HappyThursdays this is my worst fear, pugpup is just like happypup, obviously we had the caterpillar incident (also eats quickly so everything swallowed whole) and today the squashie but I know it'll be something he really shouldn't at some point regardless if how careful we are.

Glad he was all sorted at the vets, what a worry for you all.

Plantlover23 · 19/02/2021 16:18

Thank you @HappyThursdays! I hope Happypup is alright, good on your vet seeing him so quickly! Must have been a big worry

@PugInTheHouse I can only leave just after she’s had a wee too, otherwise I worry every cry/bark is her trying to tell me she has to go. What do you put on your lickimat to make it last 20/30 minutes? I envy that! She licks hers up within about 2 Grin It is so difficult to leave them isn’t it, I’m always so worried she’s trying to tell me something and the opportunities in the day where I can be certain she doesn’t need to wee, poo, drink or eat are few and far between!

PugInTheHouse · 19/02/2021 16:21

@Plantlover23 peanut butter but I spread it really thinly as low down on the mat as possible and cover the whole thing. I use a teaspoon or maybe less. Apparently freezing it can help with it lasting longer. I guess as pugpups face is quite flat it takes him longer?

I havent tried feeding proper meals in the crate at all as he eats in 10 seconds flat then potentially would need the toilet soon after.

PugInTheHouse · 19/02/2021 16:24

@HappyThursdays I would be interested if you are given any ideas on training to stop it? Pugpup is good with impulse control when we tell him to leave it etc, can place treats right under his nose, but he had got the sweet without us seeing straight away then he ran away, I'm certain he just swallows things quickly so I cant retrieve it.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 19/02/2021 16:40

Oh my goodness! Poor pups and their greedy tummies getting them in to trouble. And the poor owners bank balances!

We’re quite lucky that GeorgiePup is not really a scavenger (we still had the vets today for a follow up blood test) but I can’t imagine how on the ball you all need to be.

Puppy hugs for them all Flowers

HappyThursdays · 19/02/2021 16:45

@PugInTheHouse we are going back on Monday so I will let you know. Happy will also stop if we ask - the problem is we are not always quick enough to see it to stop it if that makes sense. And he won't stop voluntarily before eating something he believes has been left for him or that he's stealing!!

@Plantlover23 the vet took it really seriously - the minute we called, we were whipped straight in as we arrived! They said with puppies, you have to be so careful with raisins so they don't like to take a chance! He's lucky he hadn't chewed them or it had been longer or they would have kept him in :(.

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat thanks for the puppy hugs! and hugs to Georgiepup for being so brave with blood tests!

Petalpup · 19/02/2021 16:49

Scary for you happy Shock glad he’s ok.
I broke the ‘no chasing, no taking things out of their mouths’ rule earlier when I thought petal had got hold of the remains of a firework in the garden but it turned out to be a homemade grave stone that ds made for a dead beatle last summer 🤦‍♀️ Another grey hair.

Petalpup · 19/02/2021 16:50

Beetle! (None of the fab 4 are buried in my garden!)

Plantlover23 · 19/02/2021 16:55

@PugInTheHouse spreading it really thinly is a good idea thank you, I sort of just plonk it on and hope for the best Grin

No Plantpup hasn’t had meals in there since the first few days now as she has developed a habit of taking the food out of the bowl and eating it off the floor...which isn’t ideal in bed blankets!

I hope Georgiepup’s blood tests go well @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat !

Bless Happypup @HappyThursdays , at least it was a problem quickly solved and hopefully won’t be repeated! And he doesn’t have to spend the night Flowers

@Petalpup I’ll admit I giggled at the gravestone for a beetle - so worrying for you but at least it turned out ok in the end and wasn’t a firework!

Realised there haven’t been many cute photos of the little pickles lately, so here’s some puppy tax from today! She gets fluffier by the day I’m sure of it.

@Plantlover23 be careful though if you spread it too quickly you'll end up covered, I know from experience Grin

I have added some recent photos!

@PugInTheHouse like butter wouldn’t melt!

PugInTheHouse · 19/02/2021 17:12

@Plantlover23 yep, the pug 'head tilts' make them look so sweet and innocent Grin

Canteloupe33 · 19/02/2021 17:40

Aw @Plantlover23 is plantpup a labradoodle? This is cantepup - she’s an F1 labradoodle (9 weeks) and not looking very poodley at the moment but I think she will get fluffier.

Plantlover23 · 19/02/2021 17:59

@Canteloupe33 Cantepup is gorgeous! She is a Sproodle Smile Definitely more springer-y at the moment and not a curl in sight just a million times fluff!

Puppypuppypuppy · 19/02/2021 18:19

@HappyThursdays so glad Happypup is ok. Good to know the vet will see you so quickly. Good luck with all the tests @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat - lucky Georgiepup having you as her family.

Puppypup is calming down on picking everything up and eating it on walks and actually does understand 'leave' but now and again he'll hit the jackpot - like a packet of mini cheddars he found in the undergrowth yesterday. He's started getting a bit obsessed with sticks and I feel v mean taking them off him.

EmzBPupMum · 19/02/2021 18:33

@HappyThursdays we've had to do
The trip to the emergency vets with our wcs too. Pup decided to pull my daughters scrunchie out of her hair and swallow the whole thing! Vet had to do same injection to make him sick and we were £107 lighter!! Confused

Plantlover23 · 19/02/2021 18:49

The vets have tested Plantpup’s (tiny...sorry vets) sample already! There are small traces of protein and white blood cells so she will be on oral anti inflammatory meds for a week more Sad Poor little thing.

Frenchfancy · 19/02/2021 18:54

I accept that I might not be the most careful dog owner in the world before I say the following :

Your dog is going to eat all sorts of things in their lifetime, if you go to the vets every time it is going to cost you a fortune. Dogs eat anything they can get their mouths on. Mine is currently in partnership with the cats, they catch mice and rats and the dog eats them! Our old Ddog once ate an entire tin of quality street. We have a plum tree and a cherry tree so heaven knows how many stones she ate in her life.

I know it is hard but you need to relax a bit. Go to the vets if the dog is obviously ill, but otherwise just observe.

Not aimed at anyone in particular by the way.

HappyThursdays · 19/02/2021 19:10

@Frenchfancy raisins are poisonous to dogs. Not sure what the point of your post is tbh. The fact that the vet ran us in without even stopping shows how seriously they took it.

I don't think anyone on this thread is rushing off to the vets 'every time' ffs

Canteloupe33 · 19/02/2021 19:33

Plant pup is also gorgeous! I do find it hard to tell the difference between all the poodle crosses @Plantlover23

Plantlover23 · 19/02/2021 19:44

@Canteloupe33 it is really difficult to tell, especially when they’re so little! When they’re bigger I suppose size is a bit of a giveaway Grin

BiteyShark · 19/02/2021 19:53

Hello new pups from an oldie here. Having been on a first aid course run by a vet I no longer have raisins/grapes in the house which is a shame as I used to love eating a bunch of grapes but as they are so easy to drop it wasn't worth it.

LostArcher · 19/02/2021 20:05

Archerpup trying to mesmerise me into going into the kitchen. After a completely accident free day yesterday, we've had two wee's inside today.
