We are hopefully getting a Labrador puppy around Easter time. It will be black or brown, male or female as we haven't stipulated a preference.

It's a way off but move had a shit evening so need some cheering up.

Names in the offing so far.....

Boys:
Buzz
Eddie
Rodney

Girls:
Jem
Emmie

Any thoughts on these names and suggestions for others would be graciously received.

Not so much your girl ones.
I do like @PoleToPole’S suggestion of Daphne.
And @Myshinynewname2021’s Mabel and Olive.

Gus. Grin

Belinda554 · 10/01/2021 07:09

Purdey for a girl.
Hector for a boy.

Monkeytapper · 10/01/2021 07:12

Dogs tend to respond better to names with two syllables. They're not short enough to be confused for a ‘sit, come, stay’ etc.

I have an Eddie

Monkeytapper · 10/01/2021 07:14

So if you were calling pup to come back in a park ‘Edddd- deee’ rather than ‘Ed’ ....they should respond better to Eddie (hopefully)

BaconAndAvocado · 10/01/2021 17:13

Purdue and Hector are fab.

Yes it would be Eddie rather than Ed.

Dougie or Douglas

Floomobal · 11/01/2021 12:54

We have had our little male black lab puppy for 2 weeks. Our list was

Louis
Monty
Buddy
Digby
Ozzy
George
Hartley

In the end we ignored them all, and called him Russell Grin

Floomobal · 11/01/2021 12:56

I’m on a few dog groups on Facebook and can not believe the number of Olives and Mabels. I suspect people think they’re being original, but there’s obviously been a trend of old lady dog names that has made those 2 names very common

Amammi · 11/01/2021 12:59

Our black lab cross had a lovely ripple down her back so we called her Ripple! She brought her name with her. Just remember whatever you name your pup you may be calling it loudly in public at a mad dashing puppy so make sure they will be able to hear it clearly - the 2 syllable tip is a good one.

breadfortea · 11/01/2021 12:59

Edna, Nelson, Potter, Agatha.

PippinsOfPogleWood · 11/01/2021 13:01

A friend had a lab called Badger. I love that.
