Winter boots

EnormousBlisterPack · 31/10/2020 21:48

I need some decent boots for walking over the winter. Something that can take getting a bit muddy, clean up well, keep feet warm & dry. I can't wear wellies as my feet freeze regardless of thermal socks, insoles etc. I have a pair of proper goretex walking boots but wouldn't mind something a little more stylish/boot like. Any suggestions?

Dubarrys?

Have a similar issue but not a big budget. Can't wear most boots, especially if too chunky so end up wearing battered walking shoes that are really ugly! I've bought some cheap equestrian jodhpur boots, so going to try them again. Last pair were great.

seadog1977 · 01/11/2020 06:37

Iv got Dubarrys expensive but they keep my feet warm and dry .

tissueboxx · 01/11/2020 07:25

I have waterproof leather uggs. They're not that attractive but they're sheepskin inside and so warm. I've had them for 3 years and still going strong. I clean the mud off of them regularly and they do well, I just keep spraying them with waterproof stuff.

Onthetrain75 · 01/11/2020 07:47

There are definitely some equestrian brands that make something that looks like dubarry at a fraction of the price. Have seen them but not tried. I have found really that you need either a walking or boot or welly for dog walking. I would recommend you try Aigle wellies (the ones with the thermal lining) they really are good. I have some dubarrys as well but they are not great if it’s properly muddy as the leather gets wrecked unless you clean every time. Who does that?!! Walking boots are best if it’s not too muddy. Also get some proper winter weight merino socks from icebreaker or Rohan. They have really helped me.

HappyThursdays · 01/11/2020 08:32

I know you said no wellies but I have a pair of Aigle, neoprene lined (that's the key thing!) and they have lasted decades. I couldn't find a pair of walking boots as warm as them. They are really expensive but they do last amazingly well. Someone recommended them for watching my son play football!

HappyThursdays · 01/11/2020 08:36

www.aigle.com/uk/en/p/reva-iso-3644_kaki.html it's those ones I think. They do have fur lined too I see but I've never tried those

wasthataburp · 01/11/2020 08:37

Dublin River Boots are great

BlueStethoscope · 01/11/2020 09:18

@tissueboxx which Uggs are they please?

dudsville · 01/11/2020 09:25

I think these fit the bill. At lest I hope so. I'm looking fur something similar. Their description is that it's a good sturdy walking boot that wouldn't be out of place in city living, or something. It doesn't look from the side that it has a good walking sole but the underside pics show that it does. I like that its more understated. Anyway, here's the link. BlueStethoscope · 01/11/2020 09:48

How comfortable are Muckboots? I can't wear wellies either and wondered if Muckboots had more support.

tissueboxx · 01/11/2020 10:50

@BlueStethoscope they're these ones. They are short but I can still walk through thick mud and muddy puddles fine, I just can't jump in muddy puddles in case it sloshes over! I have the same problem with cold feet and these have saved me.

Sorry @BlueStethoscope they're these. I thought the last ones were the new version.

I suppose it depends where you walk. I have a pair of waterproof hiking boots. They cover up to my ankles. They have a good foot support. I cant wear wellies they are no good for my walks as there's no foot support or grip in them.

EnormousBlisterPack · 05/11/2020 14:20

Fantastic lots of good suggestions. A friend had neoprene boots a few years back & raved about them I'd forgotten about them & didn't know what to search so they're worth a look. I am after a bit of foot support too but agree cleaning mud off after every walk is just not going to happen!

@dudsville I like the look of those from Millers, very Timberland like

EnormousBlisterPack · 05/11/2020 14:24

OMG those Dubarrybones are soooo expensive. I really like the look but couldn't fork out that much. I'll have to search equestrian brands

Muck boots are great, but not all that supportive, for the poster who asked about that. They’re perfect for slipping on and going for a walk for 20 mins or so around the fields, and worn with thick socks are more supportive than without. They’re super comfy & durable. But I wouldn’t wear them for longer walks on harder surfaces as no arch support.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 05/11/2020 14:28

Dublin River Boots have been on my Treat List for myself for ages.

V practical but could still wear them as casual wear if you wanted.

Thedogshow · 05/11/2020 14:29

Sorel do more trendy waterproof, warm boots.

GiraffeNecked · 05/11/2020 14:35

just following. wear hiking boots at mo but trousers get mucky.

40somethingJBJ · 05/11/2020 18:41

I have muck boots. They’re extremely comfortable, warm and totally waterproof, plus scrub up easily. Best boots I’ve had.

EnormousBlisterPack · 05/11/2020 20:33

I've found these which are Dubarry like but half the price. I'd pay that if they are warm, waterproof & will last
