hello all - will hopefully link from the old one!

just realised we'll all have fireworks night to get through shortly. Went out for a walk with dpuppy who is getting much better at walking though we met a big dog which scared him a lot! We can only get him into puppy classes in November which is a shame but at least it's something

@HappyThursdays Thank you for the new thread

Hi everyone, how are your pups today.

My pup has been a bit of a terror. She comes to work with me every day and has mostly been an angel this week but today she has a touch of the devil in her. She's asleep now though so I've got a couple of hours or so to get loads of work done.

She's a 13, almost 14 week old Border Terrier and is a complete joy.

I've had a few 121 training sessions at home with her which have been great but we started puppy classes last week and it was a complete waste of time, think I need to leave till she's 6 months or so.

desperatehousewife21 · 23/10/2020 11:00

Pup is 15 weeks now he’s reliably sleeping through the night in his crate.
He’s also mental first and last thing, seems to drop off about 8:30pm.

He can still be bitey but mostly if the person playing with him (usually DH) hypes him up. He bit him on the nose yesterday and it bled! I tell him not to wind him up Hmm

He gets a 15 min walk every day (we read they should get 5mins for every month of their age, not sure if this is for all dogs or just labs?)

He LOVES the antler chew that was linked in the last thread by I think chocolateandamaretto sorry if I have the wrong person though! We’ve just ordered another 2, they keep him busy all evening! He loves chewing on plastic milk bottles (cleaned) too.

HappyThursdays · 23/10/2020 11:38

yes pup loves his antler chews too :)

he's coming up to 12 weeks and I can't wait to bathe him - he absolutely stinks!

no puppy classes till November - only worries me because we don't meet many other dogs (we're very rural with the occasion visit to London for work) so he's done v little dog socialisation since he's been with us

he's still waking up pretty early - he also conks out around 830pm with us on the couch, we go to bed around 10/1030pm and he either stays on the couch or goes to his bed and today he was up at 5.

he runs around a lot more than he should for his age - but we checked with the vet and she said he was very spirited Grin. I have to force him to nap during the day, particularly when dp's dcs are here as otherwise he's up every time someone moves around.

HappyThursdays · 23/10/2020 11:40

(and if he doesn't nap, he's a lot more bitey!)

Dozycuntlaters · 23/10/2020 11:46

Dozy pup goes in her crate 8.30 - 9pm latest and sleeps through till about 7 - 7.30. I've heard the 5 days per month is a myth, I tend to take my girl out every lunch time for about 40 minutes, and then when we get back to the office she conks out for about 2 hours.

My pup is also bitey when she's tired so if she gets too wound up I put her in her crate for a nap.

newuser000 · 23/10/2020 14:03

I'll be joining you all later - pick up newpup this afternoon!

HappyThursdays · 23/10/2020 15:07

Obligatory pictures please @newuser000

Thanks for the new thread

Riverhousepuppy · 23/10/2020 16:15

Thanks for new thread. Riverpup is 17 weeks today and a lot less bitey than early days. Unless she is overtired and hyped up, also by dh yesterday who also got a cut on the nose from it
But generally life is so much easier than the first few chaotic weeks. She sleeps through the night, is pretty much toilet trained unless we miss a cue. Still need to work on leaving alone which I havent done at all due to wfh but she does daycare twice a week. We do love her to bits but also looking forward to her settling even more.
Cant wait to see new puppy pics x

Thanks for the new thread. Ooh those puppy pics are SO cute. I’ve been watching on the Channel 5 TV App with my DD the puppy programs they are just adorable- all the nice bits without the relentless hard work Grin
We’ve walked 5mins per month but twice a day. So our 6mth old gets 2 x walks a day around 30-35mins each. The vet advised us strongly to stick to that but we also do short busts of playing in the garden with a ball. We have pushed it a few times being out as a family for a couple of hours at big house place with gardens & play area where she sat down a lot between things and she was fine.
Pup loved running off lead on the beach today. She’s been a couple of times but we didn’t let her off lead as it was busy but this time I went alone and she was super. Kept coming back to me for a kibble treat check in and I only used the whistle twice to call her back as she hurtled after a seagull. It was nice for me to feel more confident with her as I’d had a wobble a few weeks ago and DH had been doing most of the off lead stuff.

Kathy2020 · 24/10/2020 01:11

What is this magical antler chew that you speak of?!
We have a new puppy and he is obsessed with biting and chewing. He has lots of different toys with different textures but right now is favouring the leg of our coffee table which obviously I’m trying to discourage

PuppyFeet · 24/10/2020 06:51

Antler chews are a god send for really hard chewing pups... as are yak chews.... I’ve ordered supplies from a company called Wild Thought... expensive but they really last and has changed my 13 week old puppies chewing habits massively... he still goes for the iron bars under my office chair but has laid off the radiator pipes and furniture!

desperatehousewife21 · 24/10/2020 07:22

Puppypuppypuppy · 24/10/2020 07:50

My pup is now just 10 weeks and been with us for two. Sleeps in his crate around 10 - 7 which I am v grateful for. Seems to have doubled in size! Toileting v hit or miss still so monitoring him when he’s awake is a full time job. I have still failed to gave anything like a good morning routine which is beginning to feel a bit frustrating. He’s full on when he wakes up and needs watching and entertaining until he crashes after about an hour and a half

HappyThursdays · 24/10/2020 08:25

Pup is officially 12 weeks today. We went out for a short walk now but just as I thought his lead walking was getting better, I realise we are no further forward. When we turn around to come home, he picks up his scent and pulls so hard at the leash, he is throttling himself (even though I have him in a harness). The whole 'stop until he stops pulling' just doesn't work as he cries if you stop and just pulls harder! In the end I picked him up for the last bit then let him off the lead as we got to the garden!

I've ordered a different harness that attaches at the front and I think I'll have to walk him round the garden a bit more tomorrow before we try and go out again argh!

He is actually extremely good off lead but I just can't risk that near a road and though we have v few roads here, he's going to have to get used to them at some point

I have just been outside with my pup as she needed a wee. Its pouring with rain here and I hold the umbrella over her while I get soaked. My DH was watching and said the umbrella is for you/me not to keep the pup dry! I'm pandering to her aren't I

Worriesandwobbles · 24/10/2020 12:02

@HappyThursdays my puppy just the same walking. Fine going out but soon as we near home he pulls on the harness. I keep stopping and have tried tricking him by taking different routes. He is great with recall off the lead though and loves the beach. Have been looking at dog coats today but wondering if they are actually necessary ?

manymanymany · 24/10/2020 15:48

Hi everyone, just got an 8 week old wheaten terrier-poodle cross (a whoodle apparently). He has been with us a couple of days now, sleeps through the night but has become a bit nippy in the last day

Kathy2020 · 24/10/2020 17:25

So I picked up some antler chews for my pup and he has been happily chewing on one for the past hour which is great as he’s chewing that instead of our ankles or the legs of the coffee table- so glad now I found this thread and thanks for recommending the antler chews!

Worriesandwobbles · 24/10/2020 18:00

Made good progress on this afternoons walk - stopped every time he pulled and said walk and he actually didn't pull me up the hill ! Other than that he has been a bit hyper today but have noticed a few missing teeth so maybe that was why.

Mummyme87 · 24/10/2020 20:10

Mummypup will be 12weeks on Monday. Had her second walk out today and did really well.
Had a good night with her aswell, slept 11-7 and has done both poos outside today!
