Which breeds would you not have again

Following on from the which pet wouldn’t you have again...

Which breed wouldn’t you have again and why?

I’ll start with GSD. I love them, I’ve had them all my life and I am on GSD 10 of various rescues and bought from reputable breeder dogs. After my last I decided not to get another due to the fact it’s very difficult to find a non neurotic/nervous/overly sensitive one despite me viewing multiple breeders at the time.

I really feel like backyard breeders have ruined the majority of them and I work with dogs and find GSD a bit of a nightmare to deal with Blush

When I got my current dog of a different breed lots and lots of the owners have moved on from GSD due to the same reason. I think they will always by my favourite but they are hard to live with at times Grin

So are there any other breeds that people have had that they think never again?

My JRT is amazing. He rarely barks or yaps. He is a lap dog, he spends hours cuddling us and is the most affectionate dog I have ever met. He is also very clever. He has perfected the sad/scared face which he uses to get fuss from dog walkers.

Some mixed reviews of golden retrievers. Shock to the poster who said they were thick. ime they are very clever (canny). I'd swear mine could've done the Times crossword with a bit of training.

Bad points are that they are often not the docile ones you see out and about. They can be bonkers and, as someone else said upthread, very stubborn. They are big dogs and if they don't want to do something, they are not doing it. A flat as a pancake golden retriever refusing to move is a battle only the dog is going to win!

My minus for grs is the fact that I know not just a few - but many - who have died young from cancer. My dog died at age 6 and it was an absolute dagger through my heart. I hope the current over-breeding is not exacerbating the breed's health conditions.

I would say Saluki but know I would be lying because once a Saluki person always a Saluki person. One of my current girls has the acceleration of a Ferrari and could start a fight in an empty room.

Anyway, where?!?! I have literally never heard of anyone working a poodle.

A quick google of "poodle working dog" will show you pictures of poodles hunting and retrieving. They were originally bred as working dogs - even if it's not that common anymore, that's still their DNA.

I have only ever had greys and lurchers and would never have anything else I don't think. I couldn't have retrievers (the ones I know STINK and shed like nobody's business) or labs as again, the ones I know are so greedy and have been prone to joint problems as a result of being over weight.

My dearest friend has a dog that I really don't like - an airedale - horrible - barky, diggy, needy, slobbery - terrier in a big dog body - disaster! She loves him though!

Any dog in general bad experience I just can't forget.
