Bella is not allowed upstairs and never ever offers to go upstairs or follow me upstairs. I believed that she never went upstairs until last week when on the school run ds sent me this photo. Not only is she upstairs, she is actually on my bed! I suspect that she's probably up there each day until she hears the car pull up and then runs downstairs to be where she should be before I come in. Of course I have now scuppered that by making sure the bedroom doors are closed before I leave.

I've got a stair gate at the top of the stairs. I came home to find the dog on the other side of the still locked gate! And teeth/claw marks on the banisters where she had squeezed through. I actually leave it open when I go out now as I'm worried she will hurt herself.

isthismylifenow · 17/09/2020 21:51

Another couch crawler here. My dog weighs 35kg and she is blonde so it's a bit of a give away when I see the dent in the couch which is full of hair.

But she stands there (on the floor) looking at me as if butter wouldn't melt.

My Lab just couldn't do any clandestine thing. If he's done something he shouldn't, when I look at him he wags his tail so much so that his whole body shakes. It's a dead give away. It's the it wasn't me wiggle. He just admits it straight away. Unlike his sister.....

UsainDolt · 17/09/2020 21:51

Bless. Set up by your DS I suspect?

hiredandsqueak · 17/09/2020 21:56

@UsainDolt No ds is a rule follower (ASD) but he was delighted that Bella was happy enough to ignore my rules Grin and sent the photo to his siblings to enjoy as well.

Sadly our dogs are crated whilst we're out. Used to have the run of the house until our older dog set fire to our house whilst trying to steal food.
Lucky we caught it before house burned down! Since then crates and a petcam!
Came home today to find the younger one had broken out and crapped in the living room!

They're lucky they're cute!

chunkyrun · 17/09/2020 22:10

Aww what kind of dog is she? I couldn't kick her out

thelikelylass · 17/09/2020 22:11

our dog sits where he wants. That includes my head when I am asleep in bed.

NoImNotEntertained · 17/09/2020 22:12

With that face she must get away with murder!! Years ago my previous dog wasn't allowed on the sofa (massive, ridiculous shedding and slobber). I popped out to the shop and gave her a chew to keep her busy for 20 mins. Came home to find pools and strings of slobber and bits of manky chew all over the sofa cushions. She looked extremely proud.

There is only one room ddog is not allowed into. (Contains cleaning stuff etc.). Came back from school run this morning to find his favourite rubber chicken in there and him looking very shifty.

Elouera · 17/09/2020 22:13

She looks just like an Ewok!!!!

MJMG2015 · 17/09/2020 22:13

@Lougle

Well, I would have been sure he did until a earlier this year. DH left a Toblerone bar on the side table. Our dog never steals and it didn't occur to DH that it was a problem. It was a full bar. He nipped down to the village, about 1 hour total including travel time. When he got back, there was an empty Toblerone packet, with a neat, zigzag line all along the side. The chocolate, and foil, was gone.

It was £167 just for the emetic injection, then vet consultation fee on top. That was an expensive Toblerone. Fortunately, insurance covered most of it.

We were obviously so lucky with our dog when I was a child. One year he broke into the dining room and ate loads of Easter Eggs that were on the side table. He pooped tin foil for days after, but that was it (and he must have Easter at least 5 full size eggs.

And he loved a slice of fruit cake.

AdoreTheBeach · 17/09/2020 22:16

In the middle of the night, my dog pushes two bar stools together at the kitchen island to form a platform so he can jump up on them and then on to the island to look for any little morsels. The same dog who needs help to jump up on the bed?

Years ago, we had a cat who we thought was very well behaved. Never jumped up on surfaces. One day I caught him lounging on the kitchen table - yuk! He scooted right off when he saw me as he knew he wasn’t allowed.

Veterinari · 17/09/2020 22:18
@Veterinari Oh I feel bad now for closing the door. From tomorrow the door will be left open so that she can get on the throw and I will pretend I don't suspect she has just got downstairs when I walk in.
Don't feel bad - I'm delighted you're maintaining her pretence!
It honestly is just because she loves you

Cuddling57 · 17/09/2020 22:19

I think you need a doggy cam Grin

Lougle · 17/09/2020 22:22

@MJMG2015 the vet said that as he's so big (40kg) the chocolate was unlikely to make him seriously unwell, but the trouble is that it causes cumulative damage, so if he then helped himself again, it could cause him damage that couldn't be reversed. It was a big 360g bar with fruit and nut.

My parents dogs always had leftovers, fruit cake, chocolate, etc., when I was young, with no ill effects, but some dogs get seriously unwell, or die, and you only find out which ones when they do Sad

hiredandsqueak · 17/09/2020 22:23

@chunkyrun she's a lhasa apso, she's almost twelve, she's a rescue and she had had a rough life being used for breeding before she came to us. She is a lovely dog if not always obedient.

DH was very cross with me tonight for sharing popcorn with Ddog. He thought it was something new bless him, but we've been sharing snacks for ages! Wink

TheShepherdsCrown · 17/09/2020 22:29

Oh she is gorgeous. So glad you have decided to let her snuggle on your bed while you are out. Grin

spidermomma · 17/09/2020 22:29

Oh well this made me giggle hahaha smart little pooch !!!! 1- she's bloody adorable look at that face ! 2 she's just outsmarted you for months (we think) so can't stop her now hahaha genius !
I wish my dog was allowed in my bed but she's to big and with 2 kids crawling in my bed kicking me out of w night time I don't think I want the dog doing the same I'm already hangin on to my bed!!!! She gets tucked in her own bed in my livingeoom come bed time but all day she has free run of the house. All though I do find her hiding away from the kids unless it's tea time an she's on the prawl under my table !!! Xx

AriesTheRam · 17/09/2020 22:34

Thats Bella's bed that you use at nighttime.Grin

SlopesOff · 17/09/2020 22:36

My cat had a choice of chair or his own sofa, he would normally choose the sofa which was next to the one I sat on. He never once used my seat on my sofa.

One day I returned home to find him on my seat, exactly where I always sat instead of on the end of my bed where he normally was when I got home.

I looked at him, he looked at me, and he got off and moved to his own sofa. Not a word was said. He knew everything.

imaflutteringkite · 17/09/2020 22:37

Our dog isn't supposed to go on our bed but when I pull up outside I often see him looking out the bedroom window. He runs downstairs and sits on the sofa before I get inside just so he can pretend he's been there all along.

Smallsteps88 · 17/09/2020 22:42
