Here we go, hero puppy owners.

We've just got back from the vet where I was shocked to discover he now weights 4kg. Little lump! He's 19 weeks old tomorrow. Wonder how big he'll get? On a miniature poodle group I'm in the adults are anywhere between 6-12kg. I hope he's small as easier to carry about!

Evening all

Well pup - Darcypup? Is home! He is the sweetest thing and we have had a lovely day.
Toilet training has been hit and miss due to the torrential rain today, but some success has been had. He has eaten most of his food and is currently napping on me Grin

I'm just hoping I get some sleep tonight !!

Darcypup is a fab online name, welcome and enjoy

My boys are also sleeping around me on the sofa after a mad, annoying, frustrating, nearly cried hour and a bit...

OohMrDarcy · 28/08/2020 07:05

Morning all

Thanks Gazing, hope you got some sleep!

We survived the night with darcypup! It wasn't the easiest but the kids slept through it and I got about 5 hrs sleep so not awful by a long shot.

Am currently drinking a large coffee and attempting to enforce a nap as he's already in bitey land shark mode 🙄

m0therofdragons · 28/08/2020 07:59

Welcome home Darcypup. Dragonpup was going great, came out for wee and poo, went in for breakfast, left room to sort cat out then returned to poo smeared and two tiny wees.

He tried Milles wolfheart salmon and veg biscuits mixed with the tinned food and cleaned his bowl for the first time. How do I figure out how much meat with biscuits?

Worriesandwobbles · 28/08/2020 08:58

I cant believe how quickly they change. Pup looks so different to 3 weeks ago. He is the most loving little thing ❤

Chocolateandamaretto · 28/08/2020 09:18

Welcome home Darcypup! Glad you’ve had a bit of sleep.

Mucky I’d also assume a dead body if I saw legs in a bush Blush there’s no way chocpup would ignore that though, he likes to leap Into the bushes In our garden and comes out with snails...

I got really pissed off with my DH last night as he said he’d settle down chocpup for bed so I got myself set up with wine and trash tv then the dog burst in with a grumpy trailing DH complaining that he wouldn’t settle. Pup needed a pee then I settled him in about 5 minutes, poured my wine away then went to bed in a huff.

When chocpup is hyper before bed he needs help and encouragement to calm down but dh keeps trying to drag him in the garden “to burn off his energy”

I just wanted half an hour on my own! Groan.

Hi all, it’s been a while but I’ve been trying to keep up to date with everyone’s progress! Our pup (chaospup?!) is 5 months now - and I feel we are making progress is some areas but not in others! She’s still pretty bitey - she seems to go teeth first into everything, whether she’s happy/overwhelmed/tired etc! The only thing that ‘works’ is a firm OFF and standing still - which she does now respond to, although it only lasts a few seconds before she tries again so it gets repeated a lot! And if we leave the room and come back then we do manage to calm her a bit sometimes.
Toilet training was good when we still had her in the kitchen full time, but after a successful holiday away 2 weeks ago when she was in a holiday cottage with free range of the downstairs we decided it was time to let her into our living room too - our kitchen isn’t that big and she was definitely getting fed up of being barricaded in there a lot. But unsurprisingly I suppose the toilet training has gone backwards as she’s now got a whole new room to explore and seems to have forgotten the link between going to the back door when she needs a wee. Some of the time at least. Sigh.

She starts daycare today though for 2 days a week so I’m hoping that will give her some new experiences and the other dogs will tell her off for nipping?! It’s a break for us at least.
Anyway, how’re those of you with similar age pups getting on?

LBee2020 · 28/08/2020 09:55

BeePup is 5 months (6 months next week) and is doing well. We are just packing up the car to go to south wales for a week and seem to have half the car full of his stuff! It's my parents' holiday cottage so not too much pressure on damaging stuff but we will be there with family (plus dog) so I think BeePup will spend 90% of the time crazy excitable and ruining everyone else's calm! He sleeps and toilets almost perfectly now but I'm a bit worried that the change of scene might throw him off....wish us luck!

petalpower · 28/08/2020 12:06

Good luck LBee2020! How long is your journey? We are taking our puppy to the in laws in a couple of weeks which is about two and a half hours away. At the moment our pup isn’t keen on the car so it could be interesting!!

LBee2020 · 28/08/2020 12:50

It's about 5 hours so we think we'll need 2 stops. Hes pretty good in the car but never done more than an hour. He has a lovely new crate that fills the whole boot of our estate so gives his lab long legs lots of room to stretch out. Were about 2 hours in so far and hes slept the whole way so far.

muckandnettles · 28/08/2020 13:31

@LBee2020 good luck and enjoy your holiday with the pup!

@Chocolateandamaretto that's so weird because my dh is always talking about the need for 'burning off energy' when Mucky gets unsettled or does zoomies around the place. Last night I had to be quite sharp to stop him taking Mucky for a walk at about 8pm, when Muck was about ready to drop and thank goodness he did actually fall asleep 5 minutes after.

@OohMrDarcy 5 hours sleep isn't too bad - well done with Darcypup!

I left Muckypup with ds for an hour or so today and came back to Mucky (who is really wet and mucky still from his walk) in the Nice Room and ds upstairs. No noticeable damage that I can see, other than dog smell. (I should point out that ds is an actual adult who knows Mucky isn't allowed in that room.) Mucky looked very pleased with himself, of course.

Our daisy pup is 16 weeks Tomorrow and is doing well . She is learning a lot from her big sister , 2 and a half year old Shih poo Winnie. Winnie is the mildest mannered well behaved dog you will meet and it's rubbing off on daisy pup. This week started well when puppy went for a puppy bath. The groomer wanted to keep her and said that she was the best behaved puppy ever .
In another vein the dogs had an awful accident yesterday morning . They love to play rough and tumble together and the older dog is very gentle with puppy . I heard puppy scream very loudly in pain and found her collar trapped over the older dogs front teeth . They were face to face but older dogs snout was forced against puppy's throat . It was only for a minute but that was enough to really hurt her . She had a trip to the vet who gave her an injection to reduce the swelling . We also have anti inflammatory tablets for her. Both dogs were very subdued all day but they are back to normal today thank goodness

Ooh cheeky Mucky getting in The Nice Room!

I'm sick of dog smell. The poodle groups I'm on say poodles don't smell but he does. I do have a sensitive nose though. My house smells like wet dog, thanks to carpet and sofa, and... the wet dog. Sigh.

TriSkiRun99 · 28/08/2020 14:33

Good luck LBee2020 hope the journey and break go ok.

Tripup was lovely this morning then a couple of hours later a pain. I was feeling teary & just worn out sitting on the sofa at 7am after a challenging couple of days and puppy was lovely, she looked at me with her wise old lady eyes and snuggled in for a big cuddle.
Two hours later I had to abandon the morning walk at the driveway as she went into super bitey jumping mode. We played frisbee in the garden instead which she enjoyed before crate time calmed her right down. We had a lunchtime walk instead.

muckandnettles · 28/08/2020 14:33

@Ken1976 what a frightening experience that must have been - and what a good thing you were there to see what happened!

@Juiceey the smell of wet dog here as well! And wet dog towels and doggy bedding...

TriSkiRun99 · 28/08/2020 14:37

Juiceey My nickname for pup is ‘smelly dog’ Grin I too have a sensitive nose we bought a new hoover and I got two cheap eBay sofa covers which I’m washing twice a week which keeps the wet dog smell down.

OwlInAnOakTree · 28/08/2020 15:08

Stinky pup here too. And smelly boy. I bought a Scentsy wax melt warmer thing for the room pup is in most on advice of a friend who also has a stinky pup and smelly boy. It's so good I've since bought another one for my bedroom and one for my hall (not Scentsy, cheaper versions!). So my downstairs now smells of Amazon rain which is a whole lot nicer than stinky pup and smelly boy. The only time I really get a dog smell now is when I open up pup's crate which is covered with a blanket whilst he sleeps, so the smell seems to build up in there during nap time and wafts out when I lift the blanket. Loads of bloody washing too though. And febreze in between on sofa blankets. And a deodorizing spray for pup too. But that wears off pretty quick.

m0therofdragons · 28/08/2020 18:33

Dragonpup isn’t stinky unless I put my nose right on him - I’m assuming this is because he’s only 10 weeks as cockers are supposed to smell? We will see. House is all hard floors except living room so he only goes in there briefly.

We took him for a little walk (carried) and then the pub in our local country park. Dc had ice creams and dh and I shared a Pepsi. Lots of dogs up there and a number of others with puppies - dragonpup was a superstar and fell asleep in the car on the way home. It was his first time in his crate in the car rather than on my lap. He whimpered a bit but settled quickly with dd1 sat in the boot seat with him.

200aweek · 28/08/2020 18:33

Tell me more about the scentsy thing please @OwlInAnOakTree I could do with a room smelling of amazon rain!

muckandnettles · 28/08/2020 18:43

Big change here for Mucky as we have changed cars (specifically bought to suit dog carrying I should add) and now he is going in the boot rather than the back seat. I was really a bit worried about this as I'd really wanted to be consistent with the car so that he was never upset by it as it's so important he gets used to the car. Anyway, I needn't have worried as he seemed very happy in the boot on his first trip. He can't get in by himself yet and he is a hefty pup now to lift in, but it was all fine. We are using his old back seat cover for the boot and I think that helped. Such a relief. I think I was probably overthinking it as usual!

muckandnettles · 28/08/2020 18:44

I also need to know about Scentsy please!

OwlInAnOakTree · 28/08/2020 19:51

This is my Scentsy wax warmer @muckandnettles and @200aweek. It's like a little lamp and you put a scented wax melt in a little dish above the bulb. It's a lovely non-chemical smell, not over-powering at all, definitely nicer than the plug in air fresheners I've tried.

Riverhousepuppy · 28/08/2020 21:18

Can I join too please? We are collecting riverpuppy tomorrow morning.
DC and dh are so excited and I am too but also feel really nervous. I think we have suffhciently puppy proofed the house, watched youtube, got classes booked and 121 trainer and I feel a complete and utter amateur having never had a dog in my life. I cannot remember anything that I have read and guess so much of it is trial and error. I think I will probably end up a bit like I did as a mum, I was never going to give my baby a dummy or children a McDonalds...
Watch this space and will update on riverpuppys arrival. We have an hour or so drive then a quick stop in pets at home for collar and lead. She will be in crate in the back with me. Eeeek

Worriesandwobbles · 28/08/2020 21:21

Good luck @Riverhousepuppy hope you manage to get some sleep tonight !

Chocolateandamaretto · 28/08/2020 21:55

Hope everything goes smoothly @Riverhousepuppy!
