Bitten in unprovoked attack

I was walking down the road with my toddler in a pushchair and got bitten in an entirely unprovoked attack, by a collie type dog coming towards me. It's caused bruising but the skin isn't broken (it bit me through my trousers). I got the owner's details and have reported it to the police. What is likely to happen to the dog/ owners?

OP collies are THE best dogs to get as pets if you're willing to work with them for the first 6 months you have them as a pup and they get enough mental and physical stimulation

I agree 😊
Border Collies are brilliant dogs when they have had the work put into them from a very young age.

People who don’t have the time, patience or inclination to train a dog shouldn’t have a collie (or any other dog). Again a dogs behaviour is the result of its owner.

Collies are known to nip (if it isn’t nipped in the bud at a young age). They also herd because that’s that is what they are bred for. Again herding can be easily fixed if it is done at a young age.

If the collie in question usually wears a muzzle it is probably prone to nipping. Let us know the outcome please OP.

Thanks again everyone! I'll update after I've spoken to the police tomorrow!

Just spoke to the police. They suggested a Community Resolution. I've asked for money for new trousers, the dog to be muzzled and a £20 charitable donation to a dog charity or the NHS. Let's see what comes of it!

That sounds more than fair.

I just hope they keep the dog controlled. I hate to see animals pts because of fools that own them
