Greyhound farting

its driving me insane. My house stinks like rotten egg as she farts constantly!
I have tried a couple of different foods, she can't tolerate any sort of wet food as it makes her so much worse and poos go like slop but she also won't eat dry (moistened with water) by itself.
I have tried Gain, chappie wet and dry, harringtons wet, harringtons grain free.
Atm she is on Harringtons (normal) salmon flavour and a tiny sprinkle of Hi life Feed Me semi moist food to get her to eat.
She looks lovely, right weight, lovely shiny coat and happy in herself but she just stinks!!!
Any ideas?

She has it with warm water on yes but does just pick at it but can't mix anything in as she smells worse!
Not heard of essential foods x

Yumove probiotic (from amazon)
really helps our dog who is prone to tummy upsets. May be worth a look.

Rgt told me a low protein food helps. Mine had a proper greyhound dry food and it did help. Was cheap as well, about £12 a big sack.

My parent's farty boy is best on Butchers grain free. They've tried everything

They also give him charcoal biscuits which have improved the wind issue.

I've left their house early before now, due to the stench Grin

It took ages to find the right food for our stinky lurcher with a sensitive gut. Turns out what works for him is Butcher's tins (loaf - any flavour) + CSJ wholemeal mixer.

If he has anything else, we all know about it! Good luck Smile

Also recommend Country Values greyhound food, that's what ours have and it suits them well. Not farty! Also have previously used CSJ wheat and gluten free lamb kibble with previous hounds. Have also used Burns adult food as well, also good, but more expensive.

She was the worst she has ever been on Butchers!

I have grabbed some step up to naturals PAH grain free kibble to try. Nothing mixed in just warm water. Small bag so can change again if no good.
Mixing it gradually with the Harringtons for a few days.
Hope this is an OK food, its a minefield!

I would really recommend (1) having a good read at www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk/ before doing any more food buying and (2) avoiding nearly everything specifically marketed at greyhounds because most of it is rubbish! Very low quality and has to be fed in such amounts for the dogs to get any goodness out of it that the struggle to digest it all is the cause of most 'bottom' issues.

Country Value gets a nutritional rating of 18%:

^18 out of 100 - Awful
Our unique nutritional ratings are calculated based on a number of characteristics including the quality and quantity of the stated ingredients, certain nutritional and technological additives and the processing methods used to create the food. They are designed to indicate how healthy a food is likely to be for the majority of dogs when fed on a daily basis for an extended period.^

Gain, mentioned earlier, gets a whole 6%! I've said before on here, you might as well feed them the sack it comes in.

If you look into the amount of each food needed you may well find the more expensive-looking feeds work out cheaper than you think because you need to give much less of it.

The one I brought on all about dog food is 75%. The gain greyhound food she come home with was utter crap, i agree. That's why I wanted her off of it x

My lurcher (saluki x) is on Wellness Core tuna and salmon. Dry kibble. She does have wet food mixed in for brekkie but otherwise has dry kibble for the rest of the day, we used to add water but she didn't like the texture... It's the best she's ever been for farting! (Her breath is very fishy now though, can't win).
They can be real buggers, we've been through so many different foods mainly with her just not eating them, but the Wellness Core she loves, has really firm poos and is in nice condition - and she seems to really enjoy it.

Have you considered a raw food diet? My Irish wolfhound, Gsd & great dane all on raw food, and the change has been amazing.

I really suggest you avoid things like tripe etc. Yes the breeders always recommend stuff like that, in my experience it always makes the dogs fart terribly!
I suggest you look for a grain free kibble, I use Canagan and Symply. Yes they are more expensive but you will not need to feed as much. My dogs hardly ever fart on these foods - if they do it’s nearly always because my parents have visited and fed them titbits.

Awww! They are mad as a box of frogs. We were expecting a chilled out greyhound temperament and instead got an absolute loon. Gorgeous, but insane.

Our greyhound has Burns sensitive pork and potato and she doesn’t fart often unless we add in wet food to top it up, then watch out! If we’re adding wet food we just go for really small pouches of high quality senior grain free food.

The rescue we got her from would only give a their hounds burns. She’s 11 now and in really good health.

@Sunnydayshereatlast. Hang in there, my lad (Deerhound/Saluki x Greyhound/Bearded Collie, was bonkers as a pup as well. We once went out for an hour, leaving him with our two elderly female dogs and when we got back he had managed to tear up the whole kitchen floor. He wasn’t distressed, it was just fun! Daft dog!

He’s almost 15 now and matured to be the most amazing, sweet natured, calm lad. He really is a true gent and an absolute sweetheart.

We lost ddog2 a month ago. We’re not ready emotionally and also don’t think it would be fair to have another while we have ddog1, as he likes a quiet life and wasn’t at all impressed even 7 years ago when we brought home ddog2 home as a pup. I have to say though, having had lazy, sleepy Lurchers for so many years, I’m pretty sure a new pup will be a massive shock to the system when do eventually get one, which we will, as I can’t imagine our home without a pointy dog in it.

Dpuppy's dm is deerhound /grey. We got her 3 weeks before we knew ddog1 was being pts.. Knew I needed a focus for when she was gone...
Sad...

@Sunndayshereatlast. I’m so sorry you lost ddog1. They leave such a huge hole in your hear don’t they.

My boy was sick for a long time and very, very sick towards the end (basically 24hr home nursing). Even so, his loss was sudden and a shock and suddenly having all that time, when I’d have been sorting his 6 meals a day, timings for multiple meds, dressing changes has been horrendous. Far too much time to think.

Poor ddog1 is quite bemused by all the extra attention he’s been getting. He’s used to a quiet life and is loving the extra cuddles and hugs off everyone, but isn’t so impressed with the increased amount of grooming, tooth cleaning and nail clipping! I’m starting to wonder if he wouldn’t prefer me to get another pup just to keep me busy, so that he can get some peace and quiet.

Vet told us a dpuppy could well prevent depression in our other ddogs. I have to say she slot in relatively easy. Especially when she towered over them in such a short time!!
