Puppy diarrhoea and no answers

I’m at a loss what to do. I’ve written about this before on here.
We got our puppy 6 weeks weeks ago. She’s now 23 week. Since we got her, she’s had loose stools. Breeder had her on raw chicken and royal canin.
At first, I tried to change her food (very slowly) to a few different things and nothing helped.
Vets tried panacur, didn’t help.
Vets did bloods to check pancreas and b12 levels, which were normal.
Stool sample showed cryptosporidium but this is self resolving and the vet didn’t didn’t it is what is causing symptoms and said there isn’t a treatment anyway.
Stool tested negative for Giardia but an antigen test came back positive for Giardia (so she’s had it at some point).
Tried a raw diet which seemed great for a few days and then back to the runs. It got very bad last week with pure dark green, foul spelling water-like poo. Back on panacur and metronidazole.
Hasn’t worked :(
I really don’t know what to do and of course our vet is now closed except for emergency cases.

Is there a vet on here who can offer any advice or has anyone else been through this? It’s causing so much stress and ruining our time with her. I’m having to clean her bum all day long and mopping the floor constantly.

Help!

Slippery elm/tree bark powder can be effective.

@Ansumpasty
Fortunately prisoner was known to family and dogs...
I know our new food is expensive but as it’s got digestive meds included in it we’ve decided to grin and bear it. I got a bag delivered last week by one of the vet dog sites. But she did eat her own poo last night when I wasn’t fast enough

Ansumpasty · 31/03/2020 11:20

@StrongTea I’m giving her the Dorwest Tree bark powder once a day. It doesn’t seem to have made a difference, yet. As it’s going in her wet chappie, it turns into a paste and she gets it all stuck in the long hair under her chin that is so hard to clean out!

@Rinsefirst we only let ours poo while on lead so she can’t eat it. I wouldn’t be bothered about her own (as much), it’s other dog’s poo that I wish ours would stop desperately trying to get Sad We muzzle her to stop it and had to clean it off her mid the muzzle the other day

@AnsumpastyMy vet was quite firm with me. ‘ give her the meds the prescription food and nothing else.’ No rice, no chicken, no treats just the Hills food and her tablets. She said I could start to introduce rice or chicken after three weeks but to absolutely keep her tummy free of additives until her poos were firm and the vet was happy.
It would be at exactly the age your dog is now that we went to our new food.

We weigh our dog every Friday and the vet took our data for the files. We also noticed how she felt our dog’s tummy for pain and discomfort. You probably are taking her weight and feeling her tummy but I’d probably keep a daily diary as well since you don’t have access to the vet the way we did at your stage.
We also had to give our dog a daily bath and we use an old baby bath from Mothercare and keep it in the garden.
We also had to get her to wear a jacket when she was out as she was just skin and bones.
But it will get better. You will get her well.

@Ansumpasty How’s your pup doing now?

Ansumpasty · 07/04/2020 20:32

@Rinsefirst

I ‘think’ we might need making progress! Tried up her Chappie which led to over feeding and her pooing at night. She was still losing weight. So we’ve changed her onto Millies Wolfheart. We wanted to do it very gradually but she got the runs right away. Called the helpline who said to just change her right over and ride it out. So, we’ve got her on pro kolin, tree bark powder and probiotics and Millies kibble and she’s had a great day!
Having to take out in the night a couple of times to avoid her pooing in her crate, her her poos have been pick-upable all day and she seems happy!

I’m really hoping we have finally cracked it. Thanks for asking :)

Oh that sounds better for all. Pick up -able is wonderful news. Hope she keeps it going.

heatseeker14 · 11/04/2020 08:35

How’s it going Ansumpasty? I hope things are still going well.

Ansumpasty · 12/04/2020 15:22

@heatseeker14

SO much better on the Millies Wolfheart! She’s like a different dog. We are finally able to enjoy her! Thanks for asking Smile

I’m really pleased for you, Ansum. I read your thread and it sounded like a nightmare to me. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
