Puppy not allowed to have second set of jabs - can we get around this?

Hi, any vets out there who can help?

Our puppy was due to have his second set of jabs this week and we were desperate to take him for a walk and let him explore the garden. But now the vets are only doing emergency appointments and it seems there is no way he can have them.

If we got him a muzzle and some dog shoes, and kept him away from other dogs, would that enable us to take him for short walks? We intend to section off the paved area in the garden and clean it so he can stretch his legs.

I know this is nothing in the greater scheme of things, and we are so lucky if this is our only problem, but it has made us a bit sad for him. Poor little pup.

No but I do know her type. She’s breeding too closely together to KC register. She IS churning them out.
I wish people paying for animals would put welfare first. But too selfish. Makes me. Angry

Wow. Not true in this case. This is a family pet only having two litters. I'm sure their are plenty that conform to the type you think you know but not this one.

Wolfiefan · 30/03/2020 10:50

So a backyard breeder?
How come they have a waiting list then?
Confused

MaidenMotherCrone · 30/03/2020 11:20

@supadupapupascupa a family pet shouldn't be having any litters. That poor family pet having to earn her keep. She's a backyard breeder.

supadupapupascupa · 30/03/2020 11:43

Argh I don't have the energy to argue, I appreciate your concern. I'm very responsible, so is she. I have done my research. She breads dogs, fully registered. Clean, tidy, happy, healthy dogs. Not too many. It's all good. I am glad that people are concerned though because I know not all breeders are responsible and I feel strongly about it too.

Wolfiefan · 30/03/2020 12:00

Not registered.
Overbred to order.
Poor bitches.
Bet there’s no health screening either.

supadupapupascupa · 30/03/2020 12:44

Wrong. Full health checks, insurance provided, aftercare, the mum IS registered. The dad IS registered. Unfortunately not this litter. Comes with full puppy packs, guidance, food you name it. Stop making me feel shit. She is a bloody good woman with healthy happy animals 5 star council rating and superb KC history. You are wrong

Wolfiefan · 30/03/2020 13:23

No I’m not. And I don’t mean health checks on the pups. I mean health screening for specific breed issues if the parents pre breeding. Hips? Eyes?
What you’re saying is the minimum. Not a brilliant breeder.

supadupapupascupa · 30/03/2020 13:35

Yes I have a list of breed specific tests and checks. All done

Smurf123 · 30/03/2020 13:46

We picked up our pup last Monday and he was due his second set of jabs..phone vet on Monday afternoon and they booked him in for today morning. Vet have him kennel cough vaccine also while we were there.
We were told to stay on car and phone when we arrived. Hand sanitiser sitting on a chair outside the front door of clinic. Once hands told we were let in. It's one person in one person out and spaced out appointments. Was told they are essential care and while they would normally recommend coming back in a month for weight check and worming etc to call instead and depending how things are they will prob just leave the tablet out for us to pick up and give to him at home

Wolfiefan · 30/03/2020 13:47

You’re determined to buy a puppy from people who flout rules designed to protect animal welfare. Who breed to order and too frequently.
And KC rules don’t automatically prevent registering two litters in one year. So that’s wrong too.
But you don’t care.
And it’s the animals that suffer because of selfish people. Angry

fessmess · 30/03/2020 13:52

In a few months time there will be dogs with fear and aggression problems due to lack of socialisation. It's a shame.

nearlyfinished1moreyear · 30/03/2020 14:11

I got my pup before this situation escalated unfortunately. I own another dog but I get what people are saying about the socialisation. I'm worried about that myself also.

I've been doing the best I can by walking her (in my arms) at different times of the day.

thecapitalsunited · 30/03/2020 15:39

Surely dog-person socialisation with people will suffer whether or not puppies stay with the breeder as they’ll only see one lot of people. Dog-dog socialisation will also suffer. No breeder can possible take 6,7,8 pups out in arms to see people every day. And these pups are already here or were expected long before we got to the point of lockdown. But we can’t help it so everyone will have to do their best.

I’m also expecting a puppy - I should be collecting in 5 weeks. Obviously I haven’t been able to visit like I should which is a shame and if we aren’t out of lockdown I won’t be able to collect. We will have to cross that bridge when we come to it.
