She has just started going mad in the evenings. Really bitey and hyper.

She's also now able to climb the stairs so makes a break for it at any opportunity so she can get to the cat food. So tonight we've had to build a barricade.

She's currently crying in her crate because we can't calm her down.

Grassynoel · 17/10/2019 20:06

As far as I know the protein content has a lot to do with the activity issues. I'm open to correction as I can't remember where I heard it. My guy's food is 26% protein. I'm not sure if that contributes to his craziness!

Keepsmiling1 · 17/10/2019 21:28

@Grassynoel I'd be interested in that because I think Millie's Wolfheart is high in protein. So the higher the protein content the more hyper they are?

Girliefriendlikescake · 17/10/2019 21:42

You'd think higher protein would be better for them, it's so confusing!

Is the Millie wolfheart esp for puppies or doesn't it matter?

Our pup was at doggy day care today and is cream crackered tonight!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 17/10/2019 21:56

BiteyFuck gets Royal Canin. Is that bad? The vet said it was good but online review places say it isn’t, but we tried to swap to something else (I forget what) and he got an upset stomach, so we went back to it. Maybe I need a slower lead up to switching. The puppy trainer has recommended the Wolfheart food too.

Thanks for biting advice! I have tried to teach him drop but he only does it when he doesn’t really want the item as much as the treat! And YY to swapping for toys as much as possible but it’s not always possible (like trying to walk him by road to bus stop when he decides to bite my trouser legs!). He is better and it is only when he’s tired, but no amount of being bitten is fun!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 17/10/2019 22:07

Girlie we had our first puppy class yesterday and he was so knackered he slept all evening afterwards! Win!

MaryLennoxsScowl · 17/10/2019 22:08

The review places say higher protein and less sugary/carby stuff like potato is good. But I have also read that that isn’t necessarily the case and I am confused.

Girliefriendlikescake · 17/10/2019 22:20

Glad it's not just me who is confused Mary 🤣

hermionelodge · 18/10/2019 04:00

Anyone else had a bloody storm tonight?! Hmm pup was doing so well! First night leaving hee in her crate/pen, she woke up at 1 and whined for a couple of minutes then quiet again. Until 3am when the torrential rain, thunder and lightning started! I know we aren't supposed to go to them but I felt so sorry for her. She must have been so scared and confused! Hoping this isn't going to ruin our progress!

ClownsandCowboys · 18/10/2019 07:49

I am currently in phase 2 of "what the fuck were we thinking!" I was feeling much better about pup, things seemed to chill out a bit. And now she's like a psychotic toddler who you can't leave alone but attacks you when you're with her.

Waaaah.

heatseeker14 · 18/10/2019 11:05

I really need to get our puppy booked in for some classes. Our vet offers free monthly puppy parties, but we couldn’t go on the day they ran the last one.
My friend recommended a trainer to me, but he doesn’t have space at the moment. The earliest he could fit us in would be December when dpup would be 18 weeks old. Would this be a bit late for him?
My neighbour wants me to bring over dpup to meet her dogs, so at least he will start to get used to other dogs.
He has been really good around our cat and visitors. Just worried I’m leaving it too late for him to socialise with other dogs.
I’m also trying to figure out what worming and flea treatment to stick with. We currently use Advocate with Drontal for tapeworm, but the Advocate doesn’t treat ticks. Considered buying a tick removing tool yesterday in case he gets them!
I’m now considering buying Bravecto and Milbemax online with a prescription from our vet. What do you use for your bitey buggers?

PottersonDayz · 18/10/2019 11:34

Hi! Can I join please?

We have a 5 month old Lhasa Apso - I can't post a picture yet as I'm new to the site.

She's such a placid little thing but her teething has her constantly nibbling on our fingers.

hermionelodge · 18/10/2019 16:48

Hi potters the nibbling is s nightmare isn't it. Ours is only 9 weeks old and I'm fed up of the biting already!
Don't think I can handle months of this. Someone suggested giving a frozen carrot as it's soothing for the gums. Tried that and she just barked and pounced at it and didn't actually chew it!

ClownsandCowboys · 18/10/2019 17:12

Biting isn't just for teething. It's because like babies it's how they experience the world. They play with their litter mates by biting and nibbling.

BiteyShark · 18/10/2019 17:54

heatseeker14 I use nexgard spectra which treats worms (including lung worm), fleas and ticks. The ticks have to bite them but they die around 24 hours later and fall off (should die before the risk of them getting infected with lymes). It's a tablet you give them each month.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 18/10/2019 18:43

Frozen carrots didn’t work here either - he just pounced at them and then ignored them until they defrosted and then chewed them.

Our vet is looking after the flea and worm stuff - we just take him along monthly to be weighed and they give us the stuff.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 18/10/2019 18:46

Bitey is 17 weeks and had his first class a couple of days ago - I’d have liked him to be younger but there were no spaces available then. Is there anyone else you can try for earlier lessons?

Grassynoel · 18/10/2019 22:17

@Keepsmiling1 I don't know where I heard it so forgive me if it's crap I'm spouting. I do keep an eye on it with our hyperactive chomper just in case as he's mad enough already, his food is 26% protein.

I'm also sussing out neutering at the moment. The rescue ask that you neuter them at 6 months as he's a small breed. He's definitely a teenager already! Imagine!! He's lifting the leg and scent marking and turning into a right guard dog. Also, he's smitten with the lady pooch next door. His bark even sounds different when he's trying to get through the wall to her.

I'd like to wait for him to grow a bit more before he loses his bits the poor mite.

I'm hiding up in bed again to get a bit of peace. He's lethal.Grin

Grassynoel · 18/10/2019 22:18

I have to add to say you wouldn't believe how long it took me to figure out how to get the little emoji's in my posts. Feel so stupid now!Shock

ClownsandCowboys · 19/10/2019 08:01

Clownpup is sooooo bitey, barmy and nippy. She's driving me insane. She just starts immediately when she wakes up! Her food is 28% protein, wonder if that is an issue.

DH has gone back to not happy with her because of all the biting. This too shall pass and all that.

Calmisthemantra · 19/10/2019 12:06

Is it correct that if you're consistent with training, praising the good and distracting from the bad that it finally works???

Feeling like it's never going to work and Mantrapup will be a bitey not listening demon for ever!

Snoopdogowner · 19/10/2019 14:24

@Grassynoel the humping has dialled up a notch in our household and need to figure out when is best to neuter.....the sooner the better I'm thinking

Grassynoel · 19/10/2019 21:55

@Snoopdogowner ds was humped mightily for the first time tonight. It's a minefield isn't it? I've been reading up a little on it and so many differing opinions that I'm just confused.

Alsohuman · 19/10/2019 22:46

Biting dramatically reduced, even. And apologies for the humongous link.
