My dog has died this morning.

Let me tell you a little bit about him.

He was my first ever dog. A little Jack Russell. Not the best breed for a first time dog owner. He was the cutest pup I’d ever seen with his little brown patch face and fat stumpy legs. My young kids loved him. He was naughty. He ate walls after 2 hour walks. He pulled on his lead terribly. He steal other children’s footballs on the field they’d never get them back because he could dribble better than Wayne Rooney. It cost me £££ replacing them not to mention the embarrassment at the time. If he was let off the lead in a empty field he’d jump like a lamb and not come back till he was ready didn’t give one damn if it was snowing or raining I’d just have to wait. People would tell me having him around my kids was stupid because Jack Russells can nip. That dog adored his children. He spent hours and hours playing on the trampoline with them in the garden. Sat with them when they were sick and sneaked in their beds while they slept and he thought I didn’t know he just lay still under the duvet.

He grew older and behaved more gentlemen like. Still cheeky and occasionally naughty. He didn’t like the cold anymore. He loved nothing more than his bed. He still loved my now teenagers and even yesterday got up to greet them when they come home from college.

He died peacefully in my arms this morning. I held him and told him it was ok that he’d been the best boy.

Having a dog can be rewarding and hard and there were times I didn’t know if I could cope with him anymore. Today I’m so thankful that my little naughty Jack Russell died in my arms after living a full life, loved and part of the family he’d know his whole life. He will be loved the rest of my life he was truly a wonderful member of my family.

What a beautiful boy, full of character, they do steal your heart, you gave him the best life.
I have jrt/lab cross she is a lovely girl, wouldnt change her, just a little black dog, but such a big heart.
So sorry you lost him xx

maid1306 · 22/03/2019 14:46

What a beautiful boy. So sorry.
I'm dreading this day it's something we often think of as our girl gets older, we have a new puppy who is the complete opposite in personality to her. I'm hoping this will lessen the blow but it'll be a sad day for us. Our first family dog, the one who has been there to show us love through some really hard times.
When my teenage had his breakdown last year she didn't leave his side, they really are wonderful aren't they

MistakenHoliday · 22/03/2019 14:49

So sorry OP and @JustMeTyping Thanks

Awks · 22/03/2019 14:53

ReapersHowler · 22/03/2019 14:56

I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers
I have a JRT he's been with us since he was 7, he's 17 now and I know we don't have too much time left and sometimes he can be the biggest arsehole, he's mostly deaf and his eye sight is going too, sometimes he pees in the house because his bladder isn't as strong as it used to be but give him 5 minutes and he'll still want to play and bounce around with you for 30 minutes at least then it's back to his blanket and sitting there grumbling if you walk past and disturb him.

I hope when he passes that I can know that I did my best for him like you did your beautiful boy. You gave him a wonderful life of love and compassion right to the very end and in the end that's all we can truly give them.

@crappywife
It is the worst thing the loss of your wee pal, I lost one of mine nearly a year ago and although I have another three I miss her every day.
Your wee lad looks like he was a character and clearly loved so very much, take comfort from the wonderful life he had; full of fun and love.
Rest easy handsome wee boy xx
💙Bestest Boy 💙

Crying here. Jack Russells are the best. 3 years today our old one died he was 17. We'll miss him forever. So sorry for your loss.

AllGoodDogs · 22/03/2019 16:02

I'm so sorry for your loss. Our lab was put to sleep on Sunday and we have all cried every day since. They give so much, unconditionally, and leave such a void when they're no longer here. He died with us by his side, a mouthful of biscuits and us telling him what a good boy he'd always been, and how we would miss him forever.

My other dog was at the groomers today and I popped home for lunch, but no paws came to greet me. It was awful, being in the house without a dog.

Sending you love and strength ❤️

Turfaccountant · 22/03/2019 16:24

We lost our border collie in January. Keep on having those great memories, and cry a lot, it'll get a little easier week on week until one day you have a memory and you don't cry, you smile. Big hugs to all

Three cheers to your JRT Wine Wine Wine

It sounds like he did life well, was loved till the end and missed by many. May we all be so lucky.

Well done little dog.

adulthumanwolf · 22/03/2019 18:57

@AllGoodDogs Wineto your boy too.

And to all the passed good boys. MN at its best in the doghouse and litter tray when an animal passes. We may all bicker at times, but it's all a common place when we lose our best mates.

Decormad38 · 22/03/2019 19:02

Your post made me cry. Our little terrier is 11. She’s looking old. The kids have grown up with her and she represents happy times. FlowersFlowers

miranda1511 · 22/03/2019 19:08

Aww he looks adorable. I've had dogs all of my life and each one takes a piece of you. Currently have two old girls 14 & 12 and I know I too will have to face their loss one day soon. I hope and pray they leave me in the same way your boy did. Hugs xxx

Isohungy · 22/03/2019 19:09
