Got my frug puppy yesterday, Kevin. He's a lovley pups, 12 weeks old but hasn't yet been trained to walk on a lead. I have attempted to put a harness on him in the house and attached the lead and gave him a treat. He won't walk, he refuses. Any tips? First time I have had a frug so any tips would be appreciated thanks

I'm genuinely struggling to think of a more irresponsible combination of dog breeds.

Aw, so cute! They're actually quite similar in appearance except for the coat colour, although your dog's coat doesn't look quite so "been dragged through a hedge backwards" as mine 😂. It looks more soft and fluffy!

These dogs strike terror and despair into the heart of vet nurses.

These poor animals have deformed faces, short undershot jaws, their sift palette is too ling and as a result they cant breathe.

Ananaesthetic on a brachcycephalic dog? Adds to my grey hair count.

These dogs have awful claws that if left grow into their pads - a claw clip on a pug ? Have some oxygen on hand because its gonna need it.

Then there is their deformed backs because of their cute curly tails that die to over breeding cause spinal issues and chronic pain.

I am not saying you arent a loving dog owner OP. All our pug and frenchie owners adore their dogs but it baffles me how seemingly intelligent people dont have a clue how cruel it is to breed these animals. If people stopped buying them breeders wouldn't keep breeding them.

As for crossbreeds - please tell me you didnt pay a premium just to get a dog with a quirky name.

LEM. I wonder if they don’t have a clue or don’t care. I met a really sweet dog. I thought at first it was growling at mine. But it couldn’t breathe. The sound was horrific. The owner seemed to think it was completely normal. Sad

I dont understand it either. They must have deep pockets too because there WILL be veterinary fees due to the breed and insurance for such breeds is a premium and many insurers exclide the conditions they are bound to get.

The irony is that the pug iwners are often the mist anxious and precious owners and are devastated when their fur babies are unwell. I feel like screaming at them. Ive been in tears watching a pug in respiratory distress when we have needed to put the poor animal on a drip. If they get stressed they cant catch their breath, they panic and the escalates quickly.

@BusySittingDown 😂
She's extremely fluffy, like a big teddy bear. But she's mad as a hatter 🙈 and chews everything in sight.

I was in the park the other day and a bloke was throwing a ball for a french bulldog.

I thought the thing was having an asthma attack, it was wheezing and sounded horrible.

Hi OP. I have a rescue pug, the first thing I was going to recommend was that you use a harness but I can see you are already doing so. At 12 weeks I would just put the harness and lead on the dog and allow him to potter about, if he walks, even a step, reward and praise. It takes time, I cannot speak for frenchies, I've never had one but pugs are notoriously stubborn, so you have to make it worth their while if you want to them to do something, be patient, make it fun and rewarding for him and he'll catch on. Eventually.

I've had two rescue pugs and neither of them were/are particularly good house/guard dogs. Unless fireworks are involved. My current rescue is a total couch potato to be honest.

Now, I'm not here to give you a lecture or to frighten you but the fact is you have chosen a dog made up of two breeds that suffer from a lot of health problems so adequate insurance is an absolute essential. I would urge you to research a condition called NME (necrotising meningo encephalitis) also known as PDE (pug dog encephalitis). As a PP has stated keeping on top of their dental health is vital, watch out for the eyes, ulcers can set in quickly and result in the loss of an eye if not treated promptly. Breathing however is your biggest cause for concern. Do check out the Facebook group linked above it has a wealth of information.

Well known guarding breeds- Doberman, German Shepherd, Pug Grin

I think you mean ‘alarm’ dog which is just another word for ‘yappy’

Well known guarding breeds- Doberman, German Shepherd, Pug

Don’t be ridiculous, a Pug couldn’t guard a dolls house.

Which is why the O/p got a Frug. Because crossing a Pug with a French Bulldog creates a completely new breed of dog which has fearsome guarding abilities.

Maybe the responsible breeder the o/p purchased from is breeding to supply security companies? Cheaper to feed and keep than GSD’s etc?
