What kibble do you all feed?

Just that really.

We get our new pup soon, I plan on feeding half raw and then a meal of kibble too, something that doesn’t break the bank.

I had a look at step up to naturals from pets at home, anyone used this?

Burns chicken and rice ... for 14 years, large breed, a £48 bag must last 6 or maybe even 7 weeks (I don’t really monitor it).

I use Eden. It's the only one my dog would eat and one of very few that doesn't have lots of nasty stuff added to it that can be bad for them.

Btw v firm small poos, good for picking up!

We use millies wolfheart I think from a mumsnet recommendation. Really pleased with it.

I look after lots of other people's dogs.

The bunch on Millie's Wolfheart are all pretty healthy.

The more you pay the more you get, although Butcher's Tripe wet food does seem to be better value than most, for the amount of meat in it compared with (say) Pedigree.

Eden all the way for us. Dog is fab and healthy on it, and he wasn't great on lots of other stuff we tried.

Tip: buy the working dog food not the normal. It's exactly the same but bigger bags and is cheaper.

Is it possible to mix raw and wet food, rather than raw and kibble?

I wouldn’t be mixing them in the same meal, iykwim.

Wouldn't advise mixing wet with raw ,there wouldn't be any benefit to it .

Lily’s kitchen. A mixture of their wet food and kibble. Plus their dental sticks ‘woofbrushes’. They also do a good range of additional treats

Burns pork and potato. Ddog has been on it for the last 8 years or so and is in good condition. People are amazed he is almost 10 and usually think he is a young dog when he’s running round like a loon.

Like a PP said, produces small firm poos too which is ideal for the pick up

Did feed Chudleys to ours but one of ours was a bit sensitive too it. Switched to Skinners and give raw meat and marrowbones. All free from our butcher. They also have eggs. All a good weight at 9yrs, fit and great coat condition.

I feed Arden grange lamb and rice. It has a nice high meat content - my girl has a beautiful coat. I buy it from online from swell pets, two bags at a time, free delivery 👍

3 of mine have a combined diet ,they love it .
If you are going to combine its best that the kibble is one of the good quality high meat content & doesn't have grain ,rice or a high amount of starchy ingredients.

I know a lot of owners who feed Millies and combine ,it's one of the reasons I chose it.

Canagan. It's grain free which works well for my dogs, and has a high meat content with great joint care. One of mine has the dental variety which has literally transformed her teeth, which has meant we've avoided a costly dental which the vets were pushing for. (She's a rescue we got in May, which is why her teeth were bad!)

Avoid Royal Canin and Science Diet, they are overpriced rubbish, with little nutritional benefit. It makes me so mad that vets push them!

If you're feeding raw and kibble, I'd feed the raw first, as there is evidence to suggest that if you mix raw with the kibble, or feed the kibble first, then it can cause stomach upset, as they have different digestion rates, and you don't want the raw sitting behind the kibble in the digestive tract.

We use Canagan as well. My dog has great coat and solid poo!

I’ve probably tried all of those. My lab is not your typical lab and will turn his nose up when he gets bored. I think he’s got a sensitive stomach, he’s been a poorly boy lately so I guess we’ll now be going through all the sensitive versions of everything we’ve already tried. If anyone’s got any recommendations please feel free.

It’s not ideal to mix raw with other forms of feeding. Better to stick to one form of feeding.

@MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig did you leave a good amount of time in between changing foods for him to Adjust?
They can get upset with switch I've especially if on a carby food.

Also with Millies & the other high meat content foods you feed a lot less & should weigh the food out with scales .
Then,keep an eye on output,if poop to sloppy reduce amount or if dry up a little.

Thanks Watcher, yes I’ve got in the habit now of mixing the last of the previous bag in with a new one to introduce it gradually.

It doesn’t help that he found and ate half a box of chocolate biscuits and made himself ill yesterday. Am now £80 lighter after some injections and a half hour chat with the vet.

Did you have a look at the site mentioned on thread? There is a section with all the additives used in dog foods & the issues they may cause . Might be worth a read ,you also could try a single protein food ,pork or reindeer maybe.
Nothing with meat meal as by law they don't have to list what's in it so the bag may say "lamb" but the "meal" could have anything in it . Most add cheap chicken which is one of the proteins a lot of dogs cant tolerate if they are sensitive.
