Yeah have seen that bravecto is similar to nexgard spectra but three months rather than every month.

I think milbemax would be the alternative to drontal. I have seen drontal should be every three months but my vets said they recommend just 6 months instead.

I might have a discussion with my vets when I am next due for our 6 monthly check up on milbemax versus worm count and treat with drontal only if needed.

Actually , Bitey I am wrong, so used to drontal but it is milebernax that I use every three months.

BiteyShark · 15/09/2018 19:59

I might see if they will swop to that to try.

He still won't settle but at least we now have doughnuts Grin

We were worried as BastardPup had his kennel cough vaccine the other day - it goes up the nose and vet said to expect him to jump/panic. DH had him in a firm grip and was braced - he didn't even blink and looked at the vet for another go, the silly sod.

BiteyShark · 15/09/2018 20:52

You were lucky BunchOfBastards as BiteyDog usually sneezes all over me and the vet after his KC vaccination Shock

Looks like I am sleeping in the spare room with BiteyDog tonight as I don't think anyone will get any sleep otherwise. Normally he's out for the count at this time but he's up and barking at the door and any noise.

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 16/09/2018 06:25

Phew we got through last night relatively ok (had a toy shoved in my face a few times). He's now relaxing on his bed. Hoping today he's back to his normal self.

Just been for a long walk with BiteyDog circling me to get me to throw the ball (Only a few places where it was safe for his paws).
Right at the end did he go into the stream to have a drink and a splash. No, he dived belly first into a big muddy section Angry. Now he is looking at me like I am horrible as he has had a proper shampoo in the bath rather than a rinse down Grin

I think Cocodog has already smelt the defrosting raw marrowbone, she keeps wandering into the utility room nose twitching like a rabbit. I had better cover it and put in the fridge cos she isn’t having it until lunchtime!

Squirrel26 · 18/09/2018 08:25

Hmm...you think she isn’t having it till lunchtime... Grin

BiteyShark · 18/09/2018 12:42

Hope Cocodog is enjoying her marrowbone Grin

One and a half hours continuous chewing and now she is very tired. I needed to work right through and not stop even for a quick game of ball today and so bone has done it’s job!
I think she had cleaned it up completely but I have rinsed it and wrapped it and put it back in fridge so it can come out tomorrow where she can spend some quite considerable time moving it carefully around the garden assessing the best place to hide it. Then she will amuse herself checking on it daily and moving it if she thinks DH or I have spotted her hiding place. After several days of this it will look really manky and I will bin it when she is not looking and tell her the squirrels must have taken it😜 Amazingly good value.

BiteyShark · 18/09/2018 18:49

Maybe I need to have another go with a marrowbone. We stopped lots of treats when he was ill all the time but now his stomach is better maybe he would be ok with one as I often need an hour or so of peace when working at home Grin

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 18/09/2018 20:12

Bitey, it is difficult when they have a sensitive stomach much less IBD.
I find if we stick with her Gentle cold pressed kibble morning and night then we can use boiled chicken or turkey for training rewards and a bedtime biscuit, keeping it simple means we can then have a frozen Kong or marrowbone once or twice a month and her Kong trax or busy buddy stuffed with tinned mackerel or tuna and part of her daily ration of gentle kibble once a week as well without her stomach going overboard. I often smear peanut butter on her Kong trax as a reward for grooming in the evening. Sometimes we are loose and most times we are good, so I am thinking this is the best we can do. She is generally a very happy dog!

Squirrel26 · 19/09/2018 08:29

I bought a new remote control for the TV (Somebody are the last 2). Haven’t had one for months. SquirrelDog just literally sniffed it out on top of a cupboard at my eye level, and sat there barking at it till I hid it in a draw. What the hell is that about??

Squirrel26 · 19/09/2018 08:30

Ate, not ‘are’.

BiteyShark · 19/09/2018 08:42

Awww SquirrelDog doesn't understand why you keep hiding his new chew Grin

It's a good job BiteyDog is cute because he thought we had monsters in the house at 2am this morning Confused

OP posts:
YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 19/09/2018 13:47

BastardPup loves remote controls. And I've just rescued my phone from him.

I feel a bit urgh today and so not doing anything, and the weather is changing every five minutes so he is unsettled. Got an hour and a half til I have to pick up DS2 and I'd quite like to just sit and read but I reckon the chances of that are slim...

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 19/09/2018 19:43

Can anyone recommend a cultural sensitivity training class for dogs?

Saw man praying in the park. PestDog completely ignores strangers so I was unconcerned about him being disturbed. Looked away for a moment. Next thing I know PestDog is having his third shit of the day a metre away from the man 🤦‍♀️ Cleared it up and didn't know whether or not to apologise for fear of disturbing him.

Perhaps I should be grateful PestDog decided against sniffing his arse as he bent down Hmm

BiteyShark · 19/09/2018 20:14

BunchOfBastards it's hard work when you don't feel great, especially when they still want to bounce about.

Ooops Avocados, lets hope the man was so busy concentrating on praying he didn't notice or smell it

BiteyDog made me so proud this week as he was a star at his training.

OP posts:
YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 19/09/2018 20:17

Well, I did get to sit and read but he was a total sod on the way to collect DS2. We have the arse end of Storm Ali and he was alternately fascinated and spooked by every fallen branch/leaf/nut on the way, then froze to the spot at every gust of wind.

Gave Dog School a miss as I didn't fancy driving down country lanes in a gale to get there. He has now put himself to bedSmile

ADHDpuppy · 19/09/2018 20:38

Hey folks, I'm new to here, but have been following for a few weeks. Anyone else's puppy/dog been acting up today?. DH and I have our first puppy. He's a 9 month old working golden retriever and he's always been a bit of a handful (learning curve was super steep with him) but we've learned the best ways to tire him out, but we are in the eye of the storm of puppy adolescence! But today he has been right shit, barking, running away on his walks, ignoring everything we ask of him, very unsettled and just being a right pain in the ass! He's like this normally, but worse than usual, wasn't sure if it was the storm that was upsetting him. Very much need some 🍷

BiteyShark · 19/09/2018 20:45

Welcome ADHDpuppy. My dog to put it mildly was a little git at that age. I used to hate walking him as recall was non existent and he would be very unpredictable. Definitely remember needing lots of Wine and Cake Grin

OP posts:
ADHDpuppy · 19/09/2018 21:21

Thanks biteyshark. Yeah he's very unpredictable on walks just now and I don't trust him much. I'm very much looking forward to this phase being over with

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 19/09/2018 22:27

Dogs are traditionally a bit twatty at that stage, rather like human teenagers. It passes! Mine came to me as an adolescent, so it felt normal, and when he came out of that stage it felt very strange!

Have you been to any dog training classes? They're not going to fast forward adolescence, but they can help you put strategies in place.

ADHDpuppy · 20/09/2018 08:06

Yes we go to training classes and do scent work classes. I think it was the wind last night as he was very unsettled, clingy with me and at night time he was very barky in his crate (never barks in his crate as it's his safe space) but once the wind calmed down he was much happier, at 3am! 😴
