Another puking episode in the car today from BastardPup. He has done longer journeys fine but for some reason today his breakfast made a reappearance as soon as I parked up. There's no pattern - argh!

Got a visit to potential new Daycare tomorrow so hoping he manages that without being sick

BiteyShark · 28/08/2018 11:43

Where is he in the car BunchOfBastards? Wondering whether moving him might make him less car sick?

I am leaving BiteyDog at a new daycare tomorrow as well so will be a bit of a nervous wreck again Sad

Bella is at the vet's to be speyed today. It feels so empty without her here. I managed not to cry anyway so that's something at least. Went to my dd's straight from the vet's and cleaned her house for her (she has health problems) to distract me. Going to do mine now,I'm expecting a call lunchtime to let me know she has been done. Have a feeling it's going to be a long day.

BiteyShark · 28/08/2018 12:01

Aww flesh yes it will be a long day Sad.

Hope she isn't too woozy when you collect her?

Snobby rich neighbours next door have decided to get a tree surgeon in with no notice. They are chipping the wood directly outside my house, which makes PestDog convinced that there's a massive motorbike outside revving it's engine and can't relax in his own home. I'm trying to work from home and can't concentrate. I've spoken to the workman but "they have a job to do".

Bunch of cunts, the lot of them. I appreciate some chainsaw noise is going to be necessary but the chipping could definitely be done elsewhere.

BiteyShark · 28/08/2018 13:29

Poor PestDog Sad. Won't be long now though until you move Grin

Oh poor pest dog Sad
Bella is out of surgery and it went well. They say she has been bred lots of times as her uterus was very flaccid. Rescue suspected she had been used for breeding so no surprises really. Oh well it's over now and I feel like I can relax now and pick her up about five.

BiteyShark · 28/08/2018 15:33

Good news about Bella, lots of cuddles tonight.

distantdog · 28/08/2018 16:01

Oh poor pest dog and bella - hope they both have a relaxing evening. Bella's story sounds handmaid's tale-ish Sad

Bunchofbastards - it's interesting that you say that as ddog was sick on yesterdays car journey, even though she managed a 9-10 hour journey with doing so. We wondered if it was the stress of the vet (she wasn't sick on the way there). But maybe there won't be a pattern to it with her either...

We have had major breakthrough today - DH was allowed to take HRH out to the field without me AND she got up on the sofa whilst he was sitting on it and I was at my desk. Normally we would shower her with treats for this but poor ddog is on a regime for a few days after being called a little fatty... so she just got the one schmako... and the one biscrox Wink To be fair she is just back from a 2-hour walk, 1h15 of which was uphill, so she can cope with a few extra calories.

It's such a huge relief, though, as I'm supposed to be going away for a weekend soon and we were worried that ddog would never go out alone with DH and I'd be stuck here forever!! Just hope it's not another case of one step forward, two steps back... praying we see more of this behaviour tomorrow. But we are only just over 3 weeks in with her, so got to remind ourselves that she's doing really well to get to this stage so quickly.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 28/08/2018 17:48

Cuddles for Bella I think.

Not sure what it is with BastardPup- he sits in the back with the kids wearing a harness. He has been in the car at least ten - fifteen times and been sick twice, but can't find a connection.

Not sure whether to sit him in the front with me tomorrow.

Soubriquet · 28/08/2018 17:50

Poor Belladog. It's awful when you get confirmations of past abuse.

Finally ordered puppy a perfect fit harness. It's the tiniest one they sell.

It's 24-30cms so teeny tiny Grin

Will be able to get rid of the kitten harness and get her used to walking on a proper lead. The problem with the kitten harness, is I have too take the whole thing off for her to go off lead as the leash doesn't come off the harness itself.

She will have to learn to move now on a proper little harness. It's going to be adoreable! I wanted one of the new marine blues they do but they don't do it in her size yet so she's got a purple one

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 28/08/2018 19:13

Hope Bella and Pestdog are ok tonight after a trying day!
BunchofBastards ..I think I have read somewhere that dogs get up and look out of the window to prevent car sickness and then lie down again. Cocodog does this, up and down with very little sleep but is never sick. Our last dog was always sick regardless of what we did until he grew out of it around 8. First dog, black lab was excellent in the car, once travelled for 7 hours with one wee break and arrived, bounced out of the car and said where is my bucket and spade!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 28/08/2018 19:22

On a roll now! Soubriquet, we have a marine blue perfect fit harness...unfortunately teemed with purple lead and collar. She also has a striped collar and lead for best. Bet little madam looks great.
Distantdog, sounds like DH is winning her over!
Cocodog has been to the groomers, smells of apple. She also has a sore right inside one of her pads. Was licking it a lot this morning but no limp and fine on her walks. We think it was a wasp sting from yesterday, have put aloe Vera on it and although she licked like mad, is now conked out 9n the sofa with me and doesn’t seem too bothered.
Bitey, good luck with new daycare tomorrow.

distantdog · 28/08/2018 19:42

Yes, good luck Bitey - really hope it works out.

I sat in the back seat yesterday so ddog could see me through the grill from the boot (where she sits on a bed). She is on the lead that is loosely tethered to the grill. She was up and down wanting to look out the window and then lying down again. I thought this was because it was too hard for her to stand up when going round the bends (we have very twisty roads here and to be honest we always have sick bags in the car for when one of our DNs visits). But maybe she was just doing as you say thegirl and that is just what dogs do. I told DH to drive more slowly but if anyone has any advice - she has a lot of room to move about and I don't know if that's a good thing or if it means she's less stable on the bends IYSWIM? I notice bastardpup is in a harness?

As I said she did 9-10 hours in the car to get here without being sick... but that said the poor thing was obviously in shock and didn't get out even to do a quick wee either!!

We don't mind the sick at all (we deliberately got a car bed that is wipe down for muddy paws) but obviously it's not fun for her and we'd love to be able to drive her back to the UK on a family visit once she's fully settled.

BiteyShark · 28/08/2018 19:47

distant it's good that your DH is making progress. Hopefully they will be inseparable soon Grin

BunchOfBastards I would try him in the front in case it helps. I am lucky that BiteyDog just curls up and sleeps in the car although he is very 'huffy' bloody back seat driver critising my driving

Soubriquet I like the perfect fit harness but whilst we got the red back piece i was a bit miffed we could only get the front D-ring in black Sad. Hopefully she will appreciate it more than the kitten harness Grin.

thegirl ouch poor Cocodog. Did she step on a wasp? I am amazed BiteyDog hasn't been stung yet as he sits by or stands in the plants snapping at the bees. We come away with a nice fragrance from the groomers but haven't ever had a 'fruity' one. I might ask if they do them as I bet that smells lovely.

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 28/08/2018 19:54

We moved BiteyDog from the boot to the back seat. He is very small and when I got a larger car I felt he was getting 'thrown about a bit' hard to go round corners slow enough and not my terrible driving honest Wink. I was also worried about being hit and the boot being a crumple zone. He does seem happier on the back seat as he couldn't see out of the window in the boot as it's very low and he isn't big at all.

Thanks for the good luck for tomorrow. I am trying not to be pfb about it as I know DH is worried about him being scared but really hoping he settles in. Fortunately primary daycare is back next week but I need to get a back up sorted for a few days in a couple of months time.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 28/08/2018 20:23

Back seat is leather, thankfully, so easy to clean. The kids get totally wound up by the puking though. And got even more wound up when he tried to clean up by himself by re-eating his breakfast...

fleshmarketclose · 28/08/2018 21:26

Poor Bella looks really fed up Sad It does make me feel bad because of course she was as happy as Larry this morning. I think she is enjoying the sympathy though and has spent most of the time wrapped in a blanket on my or anyone willing's knee. Will break my own rule tonight and sleep with her in the downstairs bedroom so that I can keep a listening ear for her. Will be glad when the next couple of days are over and she starts to perk up a bit.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 28/08/2018 22:26

She does need to wear a harness, distant , if you are tethering her. Cocodog has a seat belt attachment to her harness if she sits on the back seat which she prefers because she is closer to us I think. But she can’t see as well out of the window. If she is in the boot she can see more, can be loose but is more restless. For long journeys we put her big bed in the boot to give her less room to move which works well as long as we stop en route for a leg stretch etc.
Bitey, be as pfb as you like until you are happy with his care😁

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 28/08/2018 22:30

Bella is doing well if she is aware of sympathy and knees. Cocodog was really woozy after her spay and didn’t know about much for a couple of days. She didn’t wake us but wet her bedding for the first couple of nights, poor thing but then made a really quick recovery.

fleshmarketclose · 29/08/2018 07:18

Oh that's good to know thank you Flowers
Bella has been a perfect bed partner overnight although I haven't slept much. She does seem more with it today in so far as she pops her head up if I speak anyway. Hoping she might be tempted to eat later as other than a little water she didn't have anything yesterday.

BiteyShark · 29/08/2018 09:23

So glad Bella had a reasonable night. Remember in a couple of days the hard part will be keeping her still Grin

Well BiteyDog is at new daycare. Really hope he likes this one being a home environment. It's so hard handing over your most precious thing in the world sorry DH Grin

I am panicking myself silly about taking BastardPup to visit his potential new daycare this afternoon. I'm being stupid, I know. It's only a meet and greet. I think it's dawning on me that the holidays are nearly over though, and despite moaning about him so much I will miss him when I am back at work.

BiteyShark · 29/08/2018 13:23

I miss BiteyDog terribly when I am at work so I don't think you are being silly BunchOfBastards Sad

hello all!
back from holiday. Lovely time for 2 weeks, and I was tired so slept for a week and was very glad not to be dog walking.
Couldn't wait to pick Steppedog up though.
Our lovely friends had sent us a facebook video of him playing in the garden happily with their dog, so we knew he was OK, despite all my worries.

He was VERY pleased to see us, and very happy to get in the car and come home. Spent the first 24 hours with his head on my foot every time I sat down.
What was amazing though was that he was very happy in a 'I've had a nice time and now I am glad to be home' way, and no sign of stress or distress at having been left.
He was so calm when we got home to, just very laid back, 'now I am in the right place'. It made me quite emotional, when I think how highly strung and stressed he was when we first got him, and how relaxed he is now. He didn't even do any stress wees at their house or coming home, which was a major problem when we first got him. It helps that our friends are very laid back, and that their dog was well behaved and gentle.

Was an angel on our first walk, never been so responsive or well behaved. Long may that last....
