No....it's a private kennel. I told them she was 4 months and they were fine Confused

Bit worried now

They are going in the kennel together so maybe that's why they were ok about it? It's not a young pup being left alone but being left with her surrogate mum

BiteyShark · 13/08/2018 08:41

Definitely helps having two together as they have company.

Mine boards with his daycare person who he loves and knows her home as his second home. It still doesn't stop him being a bit confused by it all but I don't think it helps that he is still a bit traumatised from us 'abandoning' him at the vets Sad

I wouldn't dream of separating them. They both get stressed if they are apart. Puppy sees madam as her mum and not vice versa.

They even eat from the same bowls at the same time despite having seperate food bowls.

Soubriquet · 13/08/2018 08:43

And vice versa**

Madam sees puppy as hers too

I think PestDog benefited from a build up to home boarding. We went around for a cup of coffee and a chat a couple of days before I first left him, so he could have a wander round, and then we left together. First stay was 24 hours (so he learned that I really would come back) and he coped really well from there onwards.

I was quite worried tbh as he's had so many owners and quite a few ishoos but it was better than expected.

Similarly he was introduced to DF who now does most of the dog boarding by him coming to stay with me for a couple of nights, us going out for walkies together, and us visiting DF for a weekend. He was then absolutely fine when he spent a week with DF. He now absolutely adores DF and looks a bit upset when we leave

Booked Bella in to be speyed on 28th, feeling quite anxious about it now. She definitely has to be done, I'm squeamish and couldn't cope with the mess much less having dogs come calling. I'm sure she will be fine but you can't help worrying can you? Any knowledge and experiences would be great and any tips to ensure she recovers quickly and well please?

BiteyShark · 13/08/2018 11:10

Ensure you have plenty of different cones or body suits to try. BiteyDog managed to bite the vets plastic cone apart. Went crazy in the body suit and also bit the comfy cone off.

Expect a woozy and possibly crying Bella when she comes home. BiteyDog after castration stood and cried in the kitchen for ages Sad

Oh no my heart will break for her if she is at all like Bitey dog Sad I will feel awful anyway because she is settled in here and I'm sure she will feel abandoned when I leave her. Have you got any recommendations for bodysuits?I think she might prefer them as she has been feeling the cold since the fur came off.

BiteyShark · 13/08/2018 12:51

I picked up the body suit from the vets as I wanted to make sure it was the right size.

Bluepuppy acted as if nothing had happened after being neutered. To be honest I was looking forward to him being at least slightly subdued Grin

The biggest problem for me was keeping him from leaping around like a lunatic. I tried a few ‘quiet’ walks down the street but gave up in the end as he just wanted to drag me down the Street

It probably didn’t help that he was at peak teenage stage when he had it done..

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 13/08/2018 14:04

Cocodog had a keyhole spay because I was worried about keeping such a lively mutt quiet for two weeks and wanted a quicker recovery period. In the event, the anaesthetic knocked her for six and she was very sleepy for the first few days and then lethargic for the next few. Made a good recovery though and got on well with the medical t shirt, wore it poppered up at night and rolled up during the day when I was supervising her.

fleshmarketclose · 13/08/2018 14:09

Oh that's good to know I'll phone the vet's later and ask if they have the medical suits available.
Bella seems to have chosen a cushion I bought for dd's sensory needs as her new bed as the one she brought with her has been ignored since she got here Hmm Wanted to buy her a new bed but suspect it might be ignored anyway so will buy dd a new cushion instead.

Back home and just looked. We used the MPS (medical pet shirt) although it was a pain to keep unbuttoning it but he didn't tolerate it anyway for his castration. He did for his other surgeries but then I only used it at night.

Looks like you can get it from amazon but I am sure I picked mine up from the vets.

I got my DDog (aged 8) one month ago and tomorrow he is going to the vets to have several teeth removed because they are in a very poor state. Can anyone reassure me that he will be fine? I'm worrying already.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 13/08/2018 16:37

In his old age a previous DDog had almost all his teeth removed under GA. He was fine - couldn't manage kibble any more with about 3 teeth but wet was fine, and you can get some excellent quality wet food nowadays.

BiteyShark · 13/08/2018 16:43

crazycatgal BiteyDog hasn't had any procedures on his teeth but he has had quite a few investigations and operations requiring anaesthetics and sedation. It's perfectly natural to worry and I am sure you will be clock watching tomorrow all day but they will take good care of him.

crazycatgal · 13/08/2018 17:22

Thanks @AvocadosBeforeMortgages and @BiteyShark for your comments. I know that he will be fine but I will be happier when it's been done!

DP and I are both off tomorrow and won't know what to do with ourselves with DDog in the vets. We've been doing very dog friendly things since getting him.

BiteyShark · 13/08/2018 17:27

It's amazing how quickly you get used to them clip clopping behind you all the time so when they aren't there the house feels awfully quiet. I would say go out and try and distract yourself but to be honest I couldn't concentrate on anything when I tried that.

Well I don't know where BiteyDog went swimming today at daycare but he stinks. I am very pleased he is going to the groomers tomorrow Grin

Cocodog is a happy bunny! With the help of thick gloves and a stout stick we have found her chuckit ball that bounced out of our garden into a thick nest of nettles and brambles out in the lane. She has balls various but this is favourite. Her little fluffy face lit up when DH lobbed it back in over the fence.
Here she is with second favourite ball

BiteyShark · 13/08/2018 18:36

thegirl I can imagine that delighted face Grin. BiteyDog gets all upset if one of his balls bounces over the gate until we retrieve it.

OP posts:
thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 13/08/2018 21:17

She is a strong feminist, I believe... in the evening we have a rather handsome yellow lab trot by and a rather scruffy patterdale cross...both of whom love her, she plays with them if we meet out on morning walks but IF she is busy playing with her ball, then they officially don’t exist! Both mournfully poke their noses through our gate and get ignored...go girl!

BiteyShark · 13/08/2018 21:19

Haha well done Cocodog Grin

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 14/08/2018 11:55

We are taking BastardPup to a play area for dogs today - it's a secure field so he can be off lead and running, and there are various bits of play equipment too.

The only thing is that it is at 3pm which has buggered our usual routine. He is sleeping now so hoping he lasts a bit longer and then manages without his lunchtime stroll

crazycatgal · 14/08/2018 15:11

Well my dog went down to the vets for his tooth extraction and it didn't go well at all. When we took him down we told the vet nurse that he is very nervous because he is an ex kennel dog.

We were called 4 hours later and were told that DDog had been throwing up and they couldn't do the procedure. We had told them how nervous he was and they dismissed it and left him waiting in a cage for 4 hours. They told us that next time we could wait in a quiet room with him before his procedure, they should have offered this to us this morning when we said how nervous he would be.

DDog was terrified and dazed when we picked him up, my DP had to carry him to the car because he couldn't walk.
