How many ticks has your dog had so far this year?

beepsheep · 14/06/2018 12:57

We have found 4 ticks on my boy this year alone even though we take all the necessary precautions (tick collar, spray, spot on etc). Just curious if this is an insanely high number or quite normal.

Bravecto, no ticks.

AnotherOriginalUsername · 14/06/2018 21:40

OP what preventatives are you using?

Lonecatwithkitten · 14/06/2018 22:23

Tropic the good news is that currently in the UK ticks only carry Lyme disease so you don't to worry about all those other diseases. Though we do diagnoses them in imported dogs or ones who have travelled.

Lost count. Unfortunately there is 7ft of woodland at the bottom of my garden, which links into a bigger woodland. I also live right on the edge of a nature reserve. My dogs are fluffy spaniels and their ears and legs get the most. I've just bought seresto collars for my dogs, in the hope it will stop the little bastards attaching in the first place (fingers crossed). Ticks really freak me out.

In my previous house only a mile away, dog never got any ticks.

No preventatives, and none so far this year. He's short haired, black, low to the ground and fond of long grasses in city parks, so I'm starting to get paranoid that I've just not spotted one!

None - using Billy No Mates and essential oils on his collar and harness

Just found another one ffs! I'm starting to suspect we may have them in the garden. Any tips on annihilating them? Just spent a fortune on pet friendly pesticides.

Loads. The most we found in one go was 8. I check him all over after every walk. We use Advantix. The vet said it doesn't stop them getting ticks, but they die and fall off, so not so bad if you miss one.

Pythone · 20/06/2018 12:48

Four lodged in (one of which was after he started taking tick tablets, but it did come out very easily!).

Maybe another four walking around on top of his fur that I put down the sink Envy

mumdebump · 20/06/2018 17:47

A record 15 - & all were from one occasion at the end of a walk when he stuck his head into some ferns! We won't be walking that route again. Thankfully managed to get most of them off before they burrowed into the skin and removed the one that had with a tom-o-twister (and then squashed them until they popped! Little bastards! Angry)

JustBeingJobless · 20/06/2018 19:40

I’ve never pulled a tick off any dog I’ve ever had. Not sure whether I’m just blind to them, or we’ve just been lucky! I live fairly rurally and we have walked everywhere from farmland to woods and parks. I don’t flea/tick treat either. All I do is spray her coat through with Avon skin so soft spray when I groom her (heard it’s good st deterring insects and it seems to be working)! Ddog has never had a flea on her in her 10 years, despite having mixed with dogs who’ve had fleas. I think she’s immune to them Grin

mylurcheristhebest · 20/06/2018 19:49

We live in a medium risk area according to the map, the last time one of my dogs had a tick must have been about 18 years ago

zizza · 25/06/2018 00:26

We have several on each dog every week due to the woods we walk in. Have started giving them Credelio though and no sign of a tick since! Hurray
