Whenever my 2-year-old GSD plays football/fetch he quickly scrambles to find something to put in his mouth before running off. Even if he's really excited to go after a ball he has a quick scan around him. He now has a designated plastic pipe for this purpose. Interestingly, he is about ten times faster if he is without it! Would love to hear random things your dogs do.

Stares at you, stamps his rear paw down hard and shakes all over (like when shaking off water) when he wants you to do something like play or let him out for a wee...

TropicPlunder · 25/04/2018 20:12

Buries treats for later Hmm
Goes to my daughter's room every eve to check she's in bed (awww)
Likes to play hide and seek, and does comedic hiding behind trees
They're so funny

FairfaxAikman · 25/04/2018 20:13

Boy always has something in his mouth and has a growly "conversation" with you while holding it.

Oldest girl loves water but refuses to pee in the rain. Will happily go belly deep in the sea for a crap though

Youngest girl only likes to sit on one side of the sofa - and tough luck for DH if he is already sitting there as she will just sit on him.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 25/04/2018 20:19

Helpfully, helpfully empties the wastepaper basket every time you leave the bathroom door open.

So empty loo rolls, bit of tissue with lipstick on, ear buds, etc are carried into the living room and left in a corner. Or he fetches one shoe from down by the stairs and brings it into his corner. There can be up to a dozen there - all belonging to different members of the family, none matching.

He also likes to empty washing baskets full of ironed clothes that are waiting to go upstairs...grrr. Was not pleased last night to discover that from the hour or so's ironing I had done earlier he had picked up every garment, shaken it about a bit and then dropped in somewhere else in the room in a heap.

Our dog can be reactive and barky (adoptee with difficult past). But just occasionally if one of us have had a long conversation on the phone or we have had a slightly 'charged' conversation among ourselves, he will try and join in and "talk". This sounds totally different to his bark - more like an extended growly yawn - totally hilarious and always stops us in our tracks! Grin

Awks · 25/04/2018 20:22

He likes to crap whilst pressing his arse up against something. It's truly bizarre

ScreamingValenta · 25/04/2018 20:25

Always has exactly the same scratching session when he comes in from his walk.

Steals used tissues out of the bin to eat Envy

Eats the contents of the cats' litter trays if he accidentally gets let into the utility room Envy Envy

Tara336 · 25/04/2018 20:30

Has to walk along and crap he won’t just squat like a normal dog. Sometimes he walks as if he’s crapping but he’s not and I get angry glares from people who clearly think I’m not clearing up after him. He also does a little weird growl only to me to get my attention or will paw me and somehow I always know what he’s trying to tell me

joystir59 · 25/04/2018 20:32

Grins

itallhappensforareason · 25/04/2018 20:32

We have a 'good morning' routine that consists of him going through my legs head first and me scratching the bottom of his back. He stamps his back legs about as a sign of appreciation and grunts a lot 😂 then he goes right the way through and back round to do it all again. It's something only I do with him but he thinks it's acceptable to try and greet everyone the same way which is not so good when they have man parts.... oops 🤷🏼‍♀️

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 25/04/2018 20:35

Mine likes to sleep under the duvet. I can't sit down on my bed without knowing exactly where he is.

When I come into the house he greets me for 15 seconds and then runs off to find a present (dog toy) to present me with

He buried a raw bone in DF's garden, dug it up the next day and ate it. He always goes back to check if might have reappeared in that spot last time he found a hedgehog instead

Aprilmightbemynewname · 25/04/2018 20:37

Ours collapses in an upside down heap at every opportunity. The vet said she must be a very chilled ddog to sleep like this....

Our newest rescue was very nervous and completely silent when we got him. Now that he's getting confident, he will bark at his own butt and chase his tale. He gets all strut-y after cause he was so brave and allGrin

Our girl will do a little choppy-chompy with her mouth and make her teeth click when she would like you to hurry and give her dinner. It's so adorableSmile

Love these threads!

Blackbutler86 · 25/04/2018 20:45

Love reading these Smile
When post comes through the letterbox one of mine will grab the nearest toy, shake it with as much force as possible then let it go flying. I can't have tea towels or hand towels hanging on handles in the kitchen as he walks past and pulls them off.

One of my others has lots of quirks, if you place something on the floor like a box, newspaper or magazine he will immediately go and lay on it. A stranger one is he will always try and go through the smallest gap possible to get anywhere. For instance say there was a 6foot space for him to walk through or a 20cm space he would always choose the tiny gap - bizarre

plominoagain · 25/04/2018 20:57

Big hound can't resist writhing along any hedge he comes across on our walks . He just can't contain himself from rubbing his sides along it until he gets to the end , where he has to have a celebratory wee , whether it's hawthorn or privet . This is the same one that if I walk into the room when he's curled up on my sofa , he'll immediately make himself as long as he can ( he's a BIG greyhound ) just so I don't even think of sitting down Grin

amzi · 25/04/2018 21:19

Every morning My miniature dachshund will come in from the back garden, and go sit by the front door (just what our cats do when they want to go outside) and we will have to open the door a tiny bit so he can have a look outside the front, and then after he’s done that he’ll go sit on the sofa, otherwise he’ll sit at the front door shaking like a little weirdo till we open it.

Our cocker spaniel has to come into the bathroom when we have a bath and he’ll sit there and wait till you give him bubbles to demolish. He refuses to go in his crate unless he’s had his ‘bath’. He also loves Yorkshire puddings or croissants to carry around the garden, and will hide them in piles of washing or amongst the cushions on the sofa.

noitsnotteatimeyet · 25/04/2018 21:56

If anyone starts counting out loud our dog starts joining in (ie barking) by the time they get to 3 ... no idea why

Squirrel26 · 25/04/2018 22:09

Mine has only done this once so far, but at the weekend he was on the bank of a little stream, and he stuck his paw in and literally stirred the water round and round for about half a minute. Then he pulled his paw back, then he did it again (thoughtfully allowing us to video it Grin ) No idea what he thought he was doing, the tiny weirdo.

Onlyforthedogposts · 25/04/2018 22:16

My girl loves frozen peas. If you stand anywhere near the freezer she's right there, but she doesn't understand that there are things other than peas in there, she's so disappointed when you pull out something else!

NomsQualityStreets · 25/04/2018 22:19

Ours waits until she thinks we're asleep then sneaks into our bedroom and squeezes between the under bed drawers and sleeps there. Promptly makes her escape though when the toddler waddles in to say hi in the mornings though.

Also isn't bothered about playing fetch but will do it with my mums dogs just so she can snatch the ball and have the other dogs chase her around for it.
Jumps over smaller dogs when running around like a goat.

Hoppinggreen · 25/04/2018 22:24

Picks up something he shouldnt have because it’s dangerous, such as a stone or bit of plastic and then comes and sits in front of me ostentatiously chewing it before spitting it at me. He then stares at me expectantly for his treat
It’s due to the fact that he used to resource guard so we always swapped forbidden items for a treat - he might be daft but he’s not stupid

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 25/04/2018 22:27

Posted to early Blush

I have a cheese dome in the fridge, every single time someone takes the cheese dome out of the fridge he is there at their feet waiting before its on the counter and they take the lid off.

When we have food at the table he works out who is the weakest link and nudges their legs under the table to remind them he'd like some food.

wageslave · 25/04/2018 22:29

Scratches his bum on the hawthorn hedge in the garden. If crapping in public has to choose the highest vantage point, on top of bushes walls, tree stumps, all so he can be clearly seen by his public

Grumpyoldwoman007 · 25/04/2018 22:29

One of my girls waits til I get out of the shower every morning to dry my legs for me and if I have a bath instead she gets very anxious and grumbles and whines at me until I get out. She has been known to attempt to pull me out.

MsHomeSlice · 25/04/2018 22:31

one of my gsds would come running when he heard the ice maker go, and if he did not get an icecube the sulking was a sight to behold.

same one liked to have treats from a teeny spoon, and he could count....if we had dippy eggs for breakfast he would get the top (on a spoon) and he wouldn't leave unless you showed him the empty tops and you'd get the side eye if you dared to eat one instead of giving it to him.
