With any vaccine you will get polarised views online.

Honestly I would ask your vet (or get the information from a 'good' source online) about the diseases it protects from, the risks of getting those diseases for your dog and the prevalence and severity of any side effects from the vaccine. Only with that information can you make an informed decision for yourself.

The fluff monster stayed in her crate from 11pm to 6:24 am (precisely) without a whine! YIPPEE

Morning all. This is just the place I need. Our 10 week old boy is driving me crazy! IV had pups before but never one that nips and mouths like him!
Help me! IV been trying all the usual techniques, but when will it end?!
Doesn't help that he's a gorgeous little bundle of energy that can't go out for walks yet!
He is a flat coated retriever, and I know eventually he's going to be a fab family dog but I think the sleep deprivation is getting to me Confused

@Headlesshorseman

I know how you feel! GoldenDoodle pup also very snappy and nippy, not so much with me but scaring the crap out of already fearful DD. Any advice very welcome!

My cocker was nippy until around 5 months of age. Yelping made him worse. Timeout was the only thing that helped but each pup is different. You just need to find the best thing to manage it. Perhaps give your DD delshwragon (depending on age) a toy which she can use to divert pup on to instead of nipping her. Some people get their children to act like trees so they turn and stand still with arms out so it isn't exciting to the pup. It does stop but I had holes in my jeans from when he would launch himself at me and hang on with his teeth Shock.

@BiteyShark, thanks for the feedback! DD does have a 'special' toy that she gives him, which sometimes works, but I think timeouts back in the puppy pen will help too. He is 10 weeks today, great at night but craps all over the place, and I stepped in one this morning without noticing! Yuck!

BiteyShark · 13/03/2018 06:42

delshwragon mine could never hold it through the night so we often had a nightly toilet visit. I was always jealous of those pups that slept all night without needing a pee or a poo Grin

The fluffy monster can hold it but doesn’t always sleep through the night . Today she decided up time was 5:50. Nope. Up time is 6:30, she did stop whining for a while which is huge progress and hadn’t had an accident.

I tried leaving her for a hour today, she was quiet when I got back until she heard the key in the door but hadn’t touched her Kong (filled with cheese) so not sure she really relaxed. I need to start recording the sound to check what she is up to.

Radley - if you haven't got the pup used to wearing a collar and lead in the house then you might want to do that. I was surprised (I guess I shouldn't have been) that he had no idea what to do with his lead on. I was all ready to take him for a walk and he just sat there!!!!!

I think my 14 week old puppy has finally got the hang of toilet training. We have not had an accident since last Thursday - and that was a big crap in the middle of puppy class. I am assuming that we'll get a few more odd accidents here and then but I am finally confident that he knows what he is supposed to do. He still doesn't ask to go out but as long as I take him out regularly and hang about outside until he goes my floors remain clean!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wish he'd stop biting DD now....

Hello, hopping on if you don't mind! Bob pup is 4 months old and a pug/beagle cross. He is training us very well(!) and taking complete advantage of dh and I being absolute beginners and softies to boot!

He is a good first dog and seems to pick up the sit, fetch etc commands pretty easily. He will sleep through in his crate and is just a social machine who wants to meet and greet every dog/human who comes his way.

He is way, way less good at not peeing and pooping all over the house tho before I start to sound smug and has in fact just brazenly peed on the kitchen floor after coming in from the garden...grrrrrrr

Headlesshorseman · 14/03/2018 18:52

Yes, our little devildog loves to pee on the mat as soon as he comes in from the garden sigh
On the up side he is starting to sleep 11-6, and settles well when we go out.
Still trying to teach DD to leave him in peace 😂

Ok so the fluff monster does pee outside. No accidents but the sleep and leaving not so much. Maybe we should swop dogs for a week?

I must buy a stair gate as Bob pup does a special line in under the bed turds...we walk around the house sniffing them out, it is yuck!

Oh no, as I write this I've just smelt one and found Bob pup dropping a load in the hallway. Ffs Bob pup!

Yuck, Bobpup! That is not nice,

I’m going to try leaving the fluff monster for a while this morning. Radio on low treats in crate just need to take her for a walk then she’s tired. And away I go. It is like a military operation -I can’t help think i’m making a meal of this.

Still no accidents - no accident over night either though I think she woke at 6 am. I get her up at 6:30 am. She actually got into the crate herself last night - normal I have to extract her from under the kitchen table and put her in. So progress of a sort I guess.

We are getting the hang of toilet training. Yesterday we reached a record 5 days with no accidents - then he crapped in the hallway. He sleeps reasonably well although last night was a bad night and he had me up at 11pm (I only went to bed at 10!), 1am and 6am. We finally got out of bed properly at 7:30! He HATES being left though. I am in most of the time and work from home so practicing being out is a pain too!

Oh dear he just shat on the hall mat again. He may not live to see the weekend at this rate!!!!!!!!!

BiteyShark · 15/03/2018 11:20

Cath2907 I practically lived in the kitchen for weeks so any accidents were 'better contained'. Any chance of doing something similar to minimise the mess?

Report
ThisIsThe · 15/03/2018 12:11

I think it does help to just live in one room for a while. Is he crapping in the same place?

I left the fluff monster for just over an hour. According to the recording she whinged on and off for half an hour and then was quiet, she had eaten all the treats. Not brilliant but not awful.

ThisisThe I find getting ready to leave bobpup a bit nerve racking as I hate the thought he might get lonely. It is getting easier with practice though. I must get a new radio as mine has packed up.

I am buying a stair gate this lunchtime so I can contain the poo and pee zone bobpup allocates himself, good suggestion!

Favourite poo zone is under our beds which is dreadful. If he can't get to a dark recess then practically anywhere else will do

Report
ThisIsThe · 15/03/2018 12:27

you can get cleaners that removed the smell so that a dog can’t smell where they have been (not just us), have you tried those? Sorry if you have.

Pups are often quite predictable in their pooing schedule. If I knew that Elfpup was "due" I'd be watching him like a hawk and as soon as he gave any indications he was out of the back door so fast his paws didn't touch the floor! He even got picked up mid poo if I was a bit slow.
