Tell me your breed and how much exercise your dog gets daily :)

Thanks!

I have a basset hound. They are generally very very laid back (lazy?) dogs, mine certainly is and sleeps a lot. She’s gets one long off lead walk a day. We take her somewhere different each day, generally in the car as even though we are surrounded by fields and footpaths she’s finds it boring to do same walk everyday. Yesterday she did 5 miles, day before 4 miles. General rule is at least an hour a day. Preference is 1hr and half but that’s not always feasible.

TheVanguardSix · 26/02/2018 07:23

We have a lab-vizsla cross. Ideally 2 hours a day. I used to do more like 3 hours but I don't have as much time lately. Some days we just do an hour- if it's absolutely impossibly cold outside or if time is limited.
He needs his daily walks but at the same time, he's totally lovely if he doesn't have a walk. If he can just lean in for snuggles and attention, he's a happy boy.
The only thing that ever prevents a walk is if we're all knocked down by flu or something.

blueskyinmarch · 26/02/2018 07:27

5 yo lab. She gets 2 walks daily. One of 45 mins and one of 30 mins. She has some joint issues so that is sufficient for her. She then sleeps/eats for the remainder of the day. Oh to be a Labrador!

RollTopBath · 26/02/2018 07:32

Spot. Minimum three hours including one eight or ten mile run. Gets twitchy and attention seeking if he doesn’t get enough.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/02/2018 07:53

JRT x dachshund

Weekend walks 2-3 hours off lead each day. Sometimes longer - 7 hours mixed on and off lead yesterday

Weekdays in winter when the evenings are dark- 45 mins non stop fetch plus time getting to the park

Weekday evenings in summer - similar to weekends or as the daylight allows

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 26/02/2018 07:56

If he doesn't get the above he goes stir crazy and starts biting your ankles and being more reactive, so if he gets a shorter than usual walk you will pay for it. He's about a year and a half old.

Laurel543 · 26/02/2018 08:03

Collie cross. One hour (minimum) stomping, off lead, country walk in the morning then 30-45 mins ball throwing walk in afternoon. She has human company all the time so gets plenty of attention.

With 2 walks a day, she is lovely and relaxed in the house and snoozes most of the time. Much less than this and she starts getting agitated and demanding

FittyPheasant · 26/02/2018 08:13

Medium sized terriers. About and hour off lead and about 3/4 hour on lead every day. They can cope with less if they have a training session too as learning seems to tire them out. I don’t do any ball chasing with them.

espoleta · 26/02/2018 08:22

Chihuahua who is 2 and it varies wildly depending on the dogs mood!
At least one 20min walk outside a day, but it's it's cold and rainy he hates it even when he's wearing a jacket. We then have to supplement with fetch in the house.
If the weather is better during the week he gets an hour in the park. He goes to work with my partner 3 days a week and on those days he get a min of 3x30min walks depending on the weather. Weekend varies too. Generally longer. To be honest he prefers to go to the pub for lunch (always tried to led us to the one with his favourite treats!)

I remember when we got him I tried to implement morning walks before work. He was having none of it. Simply refused to go! We're dog led and he knows what signs to show us if he wants a walk.

RaininSummer · 26/02/2018 08:29

Springer collie cross. Two walks off lead a day of 45 mins to an hour and a half. Ball throwing in house all the time it seems. He us chilled though.

AjasLipstick · 26/02/2018 08:32

Maremma sheepdog. He is 2 years old and has a very large garden to "look after" plus a paddock....he "cares" for 10 chickens and the neighbour's goat and he gets two hours daily, generally in the evening when DH gets home. He goes for a long ramble, some of which is off lead.

MurielsBottom · 26/02/2018 08:33

I have a very lazy whippet. Most days he gets half an hour in total in the winter because he doesn't like rain, wind, snow or ice so he will refuse to go out. He is totally not bothered if he doesn't go out for a day although after two days he does get a bit hyper around the house. However we went to the beach last week and he raced around off lead for three hours before collapsing in the car to sleep the rest of the day away.

Generally we can take him lost places and he will ride in the car if I collect the dc from school as he likes an outing, just not a cold one!

ladymelbourne1926 · 26/02/2018 08:46

Lurcher x, in winter generally a hour a day, she's lazy and hates the cold, wind, rain, snow and will literally refuse to move.
When it's warmer she'll have at least 3 hours walking somewhere inc off lead and when back will often stay out all day, mooching about the farm etc. the doors open so she can access as she likes.

missbattenburg · 26/02/2018 09:33

Springer, 7 months old: generally two walks a day which are about an hour long (sometimes longer, not often shorter) and include as much off lead running as possible: open fields, woodland etc. We go out in almost all circumstances. If I am unwell or the weather is really rubbish (raining hard) then we just do one walk in the morning but make it a longer one. That way, I only have to clean and dry him off once because his coat gets FILTHY. If I am sick then I can suck it up for one walk, knowing that when it is over I can curl up under a blankey for the rest of the day.

Plus he has someone with him all day and so gets plenty of company, play times and mini training sessions. If I am going out somewhere he can come with, then he does.

wheelwarrior · 26/02/2018 10:37

3 year old lab minimum is two walks of about 90 mins each but often over a day averages 4/5 hours easilyand as i use off road power chair we average 4 miles an hour

Plus we do scent work and brain games in house

missyB1 · 26/02/2018 12:16

18 month old mini Schnauzer. one hour off lead walk in morning, 30 minutes on lead late afternoon.

She still goes bonkers in the evening though sigh....

WalnutChiefWhip · 26/02/2018 12:19

Middle aged Border terrier. Gets an hour a day at lunchtime, half of which is off lead running around like a loon. Sometimes an extra half hour in the summer evenings. Longer walks at weekends.

MRSJWRTWR · 26/02/2018 12:32

14 mth pug - 45 mins off lead sniffing around and playing with doggie friends in the morning then 2 x 20min on lead walks mid afternoon and then evening. If we don't managed the evening walk we put in extra toy playtime.

Laurel543 · 26/02/2018 13:25

Why do you ask OP? Are you thinking of getting a dog yourself?

DeepfriedPizza · 26/02/2018 13:38

Undetermined mix of lots of breeds, lab sized- about 2.5 hours a day

BiteyShark · 26/02/2018 13:45

Cocker spaniel 16 months old.

Varies every day. If just traditional walks then he can have over 2 hours off lead running about a day. Other days it's more brain stuff with agility or gun dog training. Other days he might just have a 30 min manic chasing after balls until he looks exhausted.

sparklebot90 · 26/02/2018 14:33

Interesting! Asking as we've had our 8 month lurcher x greyhound 2.5 weeks now and I'm trying to work out the ideal amount of exercise time...reading very confusing things re: puppy 5 mins per month of age but v aware that my pups breed is quite active. Also complicated by the fact that as he is from rescue and came from owners who had never let him off the lead i am not confident to let him run yet. We are currently doing 30min walk in the AM and 40/60min walk in the evening. He seems fairly happy/settled. He definitely knows he's due a walk at about 8 am and again at 4pm. We have bought a long line to practise recall but its so tricky where we are to find somewhere free of distractions (and free of things for the lead to get tangled up in!!). He is also quite large and in typical puppy fashion VERY excited to meet anyone on his walk and likes to wag and jump like a crazy dog. We are training with sit and wait whilst people walk by for a high value treat (cooked bacon!!) which seems to be working but v aware i need to keep this going for months before we see a proper result!
Any input is very gratefully received!!

Medium sized poodle cross, she has between 45 mins and 1 hour on and off lead in the morning plus 30mins off lead through woods opposite our house in the late afternoon.

combatbarbie · 26/02/2018 15:16

55kg Ridgeback who doesn't like rain or the cold and is a lazy sod. Generally during week he gets 45 min walk and a 30 min jog on running lead.

In summer months his 45 min walk is in a field where he can go off lead. Weekends if it's dry we try get him to off lead woodlands or a good hour in the field.

Hoppinggreen · 26/02/2018 16:27

2 year was old Golden Retriever
30 minutes in the morning, 25 in the afternoon, 30 in the evening and 15 before bed.
At weekends it’s more
