I had our male lab puppy castrated last thurs. came home fine but 2 days after he can’t keep food down. The runs and sickness. Was better yesterday and was eating little and often but he just been in garden after drinking water and been sick again. I’m exhausted. Been sleeping in lounge since Thursday now. Please help. I’m also new to this group x

Yes chewing grass. That has also comeback up though but that was 2 days ago. I really thought he’d turned a corner yest as I gave him about three small handfuls of food.

We had awful diarrhoea a few days after neutering and took two vet visits to sort it out so yes back to the vets. We think all the drugs affected him but once we got it under control he was back to his normal self.

Even if he perks up again take him back so then can check him over.

Harryange · 15/02/2018 07:02

Thank you. Fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery. Will let you know what happens.

Terfinator your comments are distracting and unhelpful. Of course it’s possible that some dogs are allergic to grains. But that’s not the same as ‘many dogs are allergic to grains and chemicals’ which is what you actually said. You also seem to think that the availability of grain-free food is somehow an indication of genuine medical need, rather than a potential marketing strategy. You might want to give your evidence-basis some more thought since you clearly place a lot of store in presumption and correlation, neither of which is a particularly robust foundation for someone with such an obvious desire to be ‘right’.

Regardless banging your ‘all vets are terrible and all dog food is poison’ drum here is pretty unhelpful and irrelevant. I’m not really sure what you’re trying to achieve, but you’re clearly desperate to be ‘right’ so whatever it is you want to ‘win’ consider yourself a victor. Now do run along.

Harry despite Terf’s confident presumption i’m going to go out on a limb and assume your pup hasn’t had any bloods taken since the op? This would probably be the next step if he doesn’t perk up soon.

BiteyShark · 15/02/2018 07:12

Fingers crossed. With mine it was just the after affects of all the drugs they gave him for the surgery and pain relief and we just couldn't get it under control without further medication. I can't remember fully but I think I mentioned it to our vet during our 48 hour check up and then went back two days later to say no better at which point they gave him some injections and tablets which sorted him out.

Harryange · 15/02/2018 07:13

No, no bloods.

Just been in the lounge as I went to bed for an hour. He said he’s given him a handful of food and interested and not come back up.

Veterinari · 15/02/2018 07:15

I’d definitely pop him back to the vets - is he drinking? Are his gums still wet or are they sticky?

Hopefully just an upset tummy like Bitey’s pup but i’d Want to check

Let us know how’s you get on OP

Nesssie · 15/02/2018 10:52

Chewing grass is a way dogs make themselves sick when they are feeling nauseous.

It is likely he has picked up a slight infection, or perhaps a reaction to the medicine used.

Good luck at the vets.

Hi, my boy (14 mths) was castrated last Wednesday and was back to normal within 24 hours. However, it was only yesterday that he started clearing his bowl. His appetite was quite affected and he'd even lost weight when it was checked at his post op check on Tuesday.

It does sound like something more with your little guy. Hope you get it sorted.

Harryange · 15/02/2018 12:51

Been given anti sickness injection and some tablets and to see how he goes in the next 24 hours. Checked temp and all over too. So fingers crossed 🤞

Did you mention the increased drinking OP? Also just wondering - any idea if he was on a drip or not during the Operation?

What’s his urine output like? Any improvement since the jab?
If not I’d definitely want bloods

Goodasgoldilox · 15/02/2018 15:45

Glad you went back to the Vet to check - Hope your pup is feeling much better now.

Harryange · 15/02/2018 16:18

Urine output ok. He’s eaten and drank today and no sickness. He seems much more alert too. He stick had the runs after first lot of food but he’s had 2 tablets now to calm his tummy. Vet said to give him tonight and if still has symptoms to phone tomorrow. Fingers crosssd for tonight.
