Dogs sleeping in your bed.

Any of you allow your dogs to sleep on your bed and you wish you hadn't?

I don't let my dog on any furniture and I am so glad. Lots of people do and are happy with it. I think that unless you don't mind if he has dirty paws or bum, in other words unless it is always fine for him to be there, that it's truly 'his bed too', you are setting him up for confusion and conflict.

Soubriquet · 28/12/2017 12:49

I occasionally take mine to bed. Think it's a great idea then regret it in the morning. I'm so conscious of her moving around that every little fidget wakes me up.

Doesn't help that I finally drift off and get woken up by being licked to death because I've coughed and the dogs worried and checking im ok.

She loves coming to bed with me. Sleeps right tucked up to my back. And I think it's a nice thing to do...but my sleep...

I took her last night. Probably won't take her tonight. Luckily she's used to sleeping downstairs anyway

Wolfiefan · 28/12/2017 12:55

No. She's huge. And the cats get on the bed. She sleeps downstairs.

Tinselistacky · 28/12/2017 12:59

Ddog had an accident and stitches after a stay in kennels, our other ddog had been a bit over enthusiast and tore her side. Cue a week of ddog sleeping on our bed as a grovelling apology for sending her to the kennels!! Poor dh ended up on the couch as she scratted his back til he had no choice!! I am allergic and ended up with puffy eyes and chomping anti histamines!! It was a bad week!!
She is allowed on the couch on a blanket but sleeps on a dog cushion outside our bedroom. Nose to the door likely!!
Our large ddogs sleep in the kitchen, or they hijack dc beds and are just too big!!

WeAllHaveWings · 28/12/2017 13:01

We have a Labrador, any Labrador owner will know exactly why he doesn’t sleep on our beds.

He is allowed on the leather sofa, but only when his cover is on it and he is invited up.

rightsaidfrederickII · 28/12/2017 13:04

PestDog is little and I'm a deep sleeper so he does and I don't regret it, but it does mean I need to change the sheets more often!

KiteMarked · 28/12/2017 13:04

No dogs on furniture or in beds. She has a sneaky rest on the sofa when we are out, though.

Hotpinkangel19 · 28/12/2017 13:05

No dogs in bedrooms or beds.

Lolimax · 28/12/2017 13:06

Sometimes there isn’t room on our bed for me and DH. 2 dogs and 2 cats and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

MarcoPoloCX · 28/12/2017 13:13

The OH works away a lot so it was comforting to have the dogs to cuddle.
But it has come to the point where it's affecting our sleep. They fidget in bed. And in the morning they dig their elbows in to you.

Going to child gate the bedroom and leave on the landing.
I just know it's going to be puppy time again as they got used to be in the bed.

The older dog is -because I was single- but the younger one isn't because I lived and I learned. Youngest happily sleeps in his crate.

Pombliboo123 · 28/12/2017 13:26

When I became single i started letting my two little dogs sleep with me. I found it comforting and easier to sleep with someone else in the bed. However me and DP decided to give it another go so now there's 4 in the bed and it's a bit of a squeeze Grin

TunaSushi · 28/12/2017 13:27

In the bedroom, not in the bed.

GertrudeCB · 28/12/2017 13:27

No, we tried it but ddog is a fidget and large so now he sleeps in his own bed on the floor next to me.

MarcoPoloCX · 28/12/2017 13:42

I tried before putting them on the bed on the floor.
They kept scratching the bed and after they calmed down and all of us were asleep, they jumped on to our bed.

So now a child gate is needed and so are ear plugs. Lol.

I do, but he is very polite and waits to be invited. We've always been a dogs-on-furniture household though.

earlybirdhasanap · 28/12/2017 14:08

We do. He sleeps at the end of the bed. We have a super king bed and he has a shower every day after his last walk before he's allowed on any furniture.

Frustrationqueen · 28/12/2017 14:13

I let one out of my three sleep in my bed. He is my oldest and has done since a pup.
He just snuggles in to my back and doesnt move until morning.
He lifts his head when the alarm goes off to see if im getting up or snoozing, as soon as he sees me snooze he snuggles back in haha.
My middle dog is fine in the bed, too but my older one sleeps on the floor when she is there so i feel bad for him.
The youngest who is a pup doesnt stand a chance as she would likely pee on my bed

Butterandsugar · 28/12/2017 14:17

I do. My dog sheds so little it isn't noticeable, has baths regularly and lies at the bottom. I love having him at the bottom

BiteyShark · 28/12/2017 14:19

Mine is allowed on the spare bed but not on ours (he knows the difference and doesn't attempt to get on our bed). This is great because when he is ill and I need to sleep by him I just go in the spare room. I am so glad though he isn't allowed on our bed due to his fidgeting and ability to stretch over most of it despite being only a small to medium size.

katmarie · 28/12/2017 14:21

Until recently I've spent half my night booting the older one off the bed as he always wants to sleep where I'm sleeping. He was DP's dog originally and DP always let him sleep on the bed. I put my foot down though when we got a puppy and found out we were having a baby too. The younger dog has been crate trained from the start, and sleeps happily in there. The older one now has his own crate too, we've been slowly training him with it, and he slept through the night in it last night for the first time. I won't have them roaming the bedroom at night while we're asleep, as the baby is going to be sleeping in our room initially, and so crates in our bedroom is the compromise.

Floralnomad · 28/12/2017 15:25

Do you have a spare bedroom that they could sleep in . My dog shares with ds ( adult) , but 3/4 nights a week he has the bed to himself as ds is elsewhere . He has a number of fleece blankets that he sleeps on on top of the actual duvet which get washed every other day . He sleeps on my bed until about midnight or 1 am and when I’m going to go to sleep I move him into ds room . He never gets up before he hears someone else get up so at weekends will happily have a lie in .

MarcoPoloCX · 28/12/2017 15:41

There are plenty of room in the house.
Two spare bedrooms.
But they got so used to sharing our bed that they don't want to sleep elsewhere. They cry and cry.

I tell them to get off and they lie on their bed by ours. And when they think we are asleep, up they jump.

The OH works various hours and gives them cuddles in bed when I'm not around so that has to stop otherwise it will just confuse them.

What seemed like a good idea at first is now disturbing my sleep.
I just have to relive those early puppies days of them crying again and hope they learn to settle quickly.

Mine are allowed only when invited. They wait to be called up.

villainousbroodmare · 28/12/2017 17:01

You just have to be consistent Grin
