What have the MN dogs achieved this Christmas?

PestDog came home with me to my family and he's charmed the whole family, by some complete miracle (what a difference 5 months makes! He's no longer living up to his MN name)

He's provided an insight into what DF would be like if he was a DGF ("he doesn't need a coat on, he's only going down the road" "yes he does there's snow on the ground" PestDog came back shivering despite wearing his Equafleece) Hmm

Decided to start an argument he knew he wouldn't have to finish with three enormous mastiffs. Pest is little but the mastiffs were farm guard dogs safely confined behind a gate so he got to feel safely macho Grin

And he's managed to make himself look spectacularly thick by being unable to unwrap his own sausage present, even when the end was helpfully poking out Hmm

Teatime dog perfected his cobra strike and managed to snaffle one sausage, a cheese star and two bits of cake (not fruit) ( he was wildly overexcited when everyone came round)

He helped unwrap several presents - he loves unwrapping presents even when they’re not for him. We now let him do it under supervision...

He also started learning how to use his new toy - a remote control button linked to a treat dispenser

All in all a very successful day as far as he was concerned - and he was extremely tired on Boxing Day Grin

One of mine is proud of his achievement of waking me up at 7:00 every single holiday day. He's very helpful that way.

The other is working towards his personal best in napping. Doing very well, I must say.

BestIsWest · 28/12/2017 12:36

Ours have co-ordinated a timetable for who leaves me a pile of poo each morning.
I swear they have had a conversation about taking it in turns. DPup has excelled himself by either leaving it under the Christmas tree in present style or doing it in his crate and then rolling in it necessitating a bath before I’ve even had my cuppa.

They NEVER do this normally. Senior dog has not messed inside since he was 10 weeks old. Why start now?
Is it because I’m on holiday?

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 28/12/2017 12:49

MsDog ate all the cats presents when we went into town. A huge pile of treats. Pig.

Soubriquet · 28/12/2017 12:51

Madam has already successfully chewed two of my children's brand new toys..with a chomp mark on the third.Hmm

I'm keeping a very close eye on her but it's amazing how quick she can be when she has something she knows she shouldn't have. Rat bag

RickOShay · 28/12/2017 12:55

Ddog did an excellent job of ensuring we were late for lunch at mils by running off, and then running away again when we found him. Bad dog. Grin

blueskyinmarch · 28/12/2017 12:58

Mine managed a personal best of choosing to sleep most of the time on the landing halfway up the stairs thus making sure FIL who walks with sticks could not easily get up or down the stairs. Stupid dog.

katmarie · 28/12/2017 13:02

Small dog made it through emergency bladder surgery the tuesday before christmas and so got to come with me to my parents for christmas lunch as he couldn't be left alone. He managed to demolish a sizeable amount of food there, despite me telling my mother he was off his food and we were worried about him not eating. Mum is now claiming to be some sort of dog whisperer.

Large dog managed to chew the fin off a squeaky dolphin toy within 24 hours of getting it, which is a pb even for her. She also pee'd in the conservatory, which she looked pretty proud of, even if no one else was, and ate small dog's christmas chew treat. Fotunately I bought extras!

On the whole they both did very well I think!

katmarie · 28/12/2017 13:04

Also they both sat still long enough for me to take silly pictures.

hahahaIdontgetit · 28/12/2017 13:11

So sorry Miaow.

Ours have tried to eat my BIL new spaniel puppy, making it wee all over SIL in fright.

They have however got very used to holiday timings and now don't get up until gone 10am, which works very well.

Soubriquet · 28/12/2017 13:12

Oh Miaow I'm so sorry Flowers

I've been there before..all I can say, it does eventually get a bit easier

katmarie · 28/12/2017 13:13

Not sure why the pictures aren't there! Let's try again....

PS I'm so so sorry Miaow, it really sucks, I know. :( Sounds like he had a fab last couple of days though.

punter · 28/12/2017 15:01

So sorry Miaow. Difficult to make that correct decision for them. Punterlab has enjoyed barking at any children laughing and screaming at play on the pavement/neighbours garden
outside, he thinks it seems to work as they go away. Punterpuppy is showing signs of adolescent behaviour i.e. thinking twice on recall and jumping up an any stranger in the woods - there are a lot as it is the holidays. Both labs managed to snitch cheese, some trifle and endless bits of ham etc off the floor at my daughter's house. But luckily she has 2 dogs as well so no surprise for her.

Chaosandmadness · 28/12/2017 17:52

MadDog has managed to resist the urge to eat a crazy and annoying puppy that was here for 3 days and even played with him. This has taken 2 months of working with a behaviourist to sort out his fear of other dogs (He likes to pretend he is big and butch but is actually terrified of anything resembling another dog)
Oh and btw the behaviourist called him intelligent in her report....she wouldn't have said that if she saw him walk into the patio door which normally happens several times a day :)

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/12/2017 17:56

AmericanoDog pissed on the Christmas tree when we put it up, but was incredibly well behaved on Christmas day itself (because we gave him a huge hide bone as the guests arrived and it took him all afternoon to chew through it, after which he needed a nap).

GinIsIn · 28/12/2017 18:03

MaxwellDog has learned that if you sit under the baby’s high chair, yes you may get food, but you also get hit on the head with things. MaxwellsMumsDog has learned that if you are going to be so greedy you lick out the high chair after the baby has eaten, it’s best not to get your head stuck.

CMOTDibbler · 28/12/2017 18:22

Mine started on Christmas Eve by winning us Best Fancy Dress at the dog parade (me as elf, ds as a christmas tree, dogs in matching snowflake coats I'd made) and snagging us a huge hamper of dog food. DDog1 let himself down on Boxing day by breaking into the kitchen and stealing the leftover beef rib.
Foster puppy excelled himself by getting reserved the day before christmas eve, and going to his forever home today!

hometownunicorn · 28/12/2017 18:22

Unicorndog learned how to identify and unwrap his own presents from under the tree. I was impressed!

He also got his nose into the food waste bin at a relative's house very briefly, necessitating a call to the emergency vet to make sure he didn't need to go in (they weren't worried, fortunately, and he is absolutely fine).

Crumbs1 · 28/12/2017 18:26

The beast helped eat the canapes for Boxing Day drinks before we’d finished making them. Who knew dogs love sun dried tomatoes with feta cheese? Who knew one Dally can polish off a whole tub of duck and cherry pate and two loaves of brioche?

LexieLulu · 28/12/2017 18:45

My dog died on Xmas eve last year. We didn't plan to get another dog, but ended up with two!

One we got in Jan-17 a puppy cocker spaniel. So playful and loving, we decided to get another to play with. In May-17 I adopted a 1 year old cavapoo.

This Christmas we all had a serving of Christmas dinner, then cuddled up on the sofa. It was bitter sweet as I still miss my old dog, but we're a happy family and that been our doggy accomplishment this year!

(Oh and they haven't ate any of the DC's toys yet lol) x
