Boots for muddy dog walks

My Joules wellibobs have failed me in the mud today, the council where I live have been thinning trees in the woods recently and their heavy machinery has really chewed up the paths. Can anyone recommend some comfortable waterproof boots that will fit my rather chunky calf's please?

Shires country boots are great. About £100, but well worth the money. Very muddy on dog walks at the moment, but my feet are lovely and dry.

I bought some cheap unbranded wellies (£10 or so) over 10 years ago from the local farmers supplier. Thick heavy soles with good grip and they are still going strong.

Lonecatwithkitten · 26/12/2017 14:29

Sea salt medium length boots, replaced mine on Sunday.

Country boots. Wellies are cold.

Tatie3 · 26/12/2017 15:19

Thank you, we do actually have a farm supply shop nearby but I hadn't thought to look there! I find it really difficult to find boots to fit so it would be handy to try some on.

What is the calf width like on the seasalt boots?

Muck Boots are the best in the world!

I have suffered leaky, cold, uncomfortable boots for my entire (long) adult life until I discovered Muck Boots this year and need look no further.

Look on Jelly Egg - they often have discounts.

I've got a pair of Aigle Parcours. Best boots imaginable, we walked 5 miles this morning and feet were dry warm and toasty. I've got very wide calves and they are perfect.

Mol1628 · 26/12/2017 15:30

I just got some muck boots for Christmas. Love them.

Consideredintrusion · 26/12/2017 15:30

Second for muck boots. Neoprene cancels any calf girth issues. Well built and insulated too so no froze toes. Got mine at local saddlery shop.

mateysmum · 26/12/2017 15:31

Grub boots - very similar to Muckboots. Very warm and toasty, great grip in the mud.

noitsnotteatimeyet · 26/12/2017 16:32

Another vote for Aigle Parcours - you can get the vario version which is for wider calves. They are ridiculously comfortable and beautifully warm. We had a long very muddy walk this morning up and down hills and my feet were just as warm and dry when we finished as they had been at the start. The only downside is they’re a bugger to get off as the snugness around the ankle which means your feet aren’t slipping around in them also means you have to pull quite hard - but easily solved by getting a boot scraper/remover (about £5 from Amazon)

Tatie3 · 26/12/2017 16:43

Brilliant thank you everyone, some of them are quite smart too.

Another vote for muck boots. They are wonderful.

dudsville · 26/12/2017 18:30

I've been wearing some leather uggs. So warm.

Tatie3 · 26/12/2017 18:38

I've got my eye on some unisex muck boots in the hope that they'll be a bit roomier than the women's boots.

I had a pair of aigles for years, best wellies I ever had. Got a pair of grubs with neoprene calves, also v comfy and grip in mud and on rocks at coast is excellent. But I accidentally bought the reinforced toes version so they’re a tad clumpy. But still v comfy.

PerfectlyChaotic · 26/12/2017 19:00

Another vote for Aigke parcours - super comfy!

CMOTDibbler · 26/12/2017 19:28

I have wide calves and fit into muck boots - the ones I have are designed for riding, so are poss slimmer than usual too. DH has Dirt boots and is very happy with them

Floralnomad · 26/12/2017 19:32

Aigles are excellent if you want wellies , I mainly wear dublin river boots which are extremely comfortable and hard wearing .

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 26/12/2017 22:45

I’ve got some Timberland Nellies which are calf high pull ons, nice brown leather, fleece inside and waterproof. I’ve got wide calves and they fit me fine. I’ve also got some neoprene lined wide fit wellies from a company called Jileon and they’re fab, a good fit and nice and warm. Anything with neoprene in will keep you warm.

MuttsNutts · 27/12/2017 06:33

I have these Muck Boots which don’t come as high up as others. They are so warm and comfortable, perfect for long muddy dog walks and also watching DS play footy in freezing cold.

They last for years as well - were recommended to me by someone who walks miles every day in them, working gun dogs, and also someone who has a small farm and stables.

Worth every last penny I promise you!

Sofabitch · 27/12/2017 06:37

I read this and wondered if id started a late night sleep thread as its exactly what I was googling in my sleep deprived state last night.

Shockers · 27/12/2017 06:44

I have Dubarry boots; they’re comfortable, warm (but don’t give me sweaty legs like Muckboots used to) and waterproof. This pair are about 3 years old and have years left in them.

nowahousewife · 27/12/2017 06:54

Another vote for Dubarry’s. Best boots I’ve ever had. V easy to pull on and off, I’ve had mine for 5 years and they’re still going strong.
