We’re going to be fostering a 13 week old whippet cross puppy and will be picking her up on Saturday. I have just spoken to the charity we will be getting her from and because she was abandoned and they will be collecting her directly from the pound she doesn’t have collar/coat/lead.
She is out first sighthound foster so we don’t have anything suitable for her. Can anyone recommend a good brand/make we could order from, bearing in mind we will need to get something delivered ASAP.

I know it's traditional for whippets and greyhounds to be in thickish collars but have you thought of a harness?

Perfect Fit are excellent with great customer service (I am a long-standing customer, I have no connection with the company!).

Hope the placement goes well! I love whippets!

Tinselistacky · 20/12/2017 14:02

My girls waving hello!
They don't wear a collar and just a slip lead when they go out.

Ooh they are lovely Tinselistacky! They have such gorgeous faces!

Aren't id tags a legal requirement though? (As well as chip.)? (Sorry not sure of UK rules as live abroad.)

CMOTDibbler · 20/12/2017 14:07

I foster sighthound puppies too!

I buy my collars from Kitsch, Slouching hound, or Meggie Moo, but I think most are closed for christmas.

Coats, if you ring Milgi then Kathryn might be able to get one out to you quickly

Harnesses can be tricky to fit on tiddly whippets ime - they often rub

Where are you? If you are near Worcestershire, I'd gladly lend you a collar etc from my stash

CMOTDibbler · 20/12/2017 14:12

And here's my current foster boy, wearing a Milgi coat Smile He's 16-20 weeks old

Sludgecolours - collar and tag are a legal requirement for public areas in the UK. Tinselistacky might not be in the UK though?

Tinselistacky · 20/12/2017 14:35

I am in the UK, after finding one of my Lurchers with her bottom teeth stuck under the husky's collar we took them all off. The site of our garden means escaping is impossible. When we took them to the vets +kennels they also agreed not wearing them was OK.

GothicRainbow · 20/12/2017 14:40

Thanks everyone! I’m Hampshire based but thank you for the offer CMOTDibbler.
I’ll give Milgi a call in a second and have a chat with them see what they can do for me.
Here’s a pic of our gorgeous girl...this was taken at the pound, will hopefully be able to take more of her all snuggled up at home after the weekend x

@Tinselistacky yikes!! On private property, it's fine to go collar-less as long as the area is secure. It is the law in public places though and you can be fined up to £5,000 for not having a collar and identification tag on your dog.

Sludgecolours · 20/12/2017 15:39

Pooh Gothic he is utterly gorgeous!!!! You are doing a wonderful thing!

CMOTDibbler your boy looks very handsome in orange!

Sludgecolours · 20/12/2017 15:42

Tinsel yikes about the teeth! Could you buy softer collars maybe?

Iflsido · 20/12/2017 16:00

@GothicRainbow what a lovely dog!

Sighthounds are ridiculous creatures. They're lovely but ime stay immature for agggeeessss. So the cute puppy stage goes on and on with chewing etc. But then suddenly become all economical and reserved. Quiet between walks and happy to be quiet.

Crazy weirdos! Good luck

Flamingoingmad · 20/12/2017 16:09

Togs for Dogs make really good coats to measure, and they will put a slit in it for a Harness in the correct place. My girl has a jumper from them as well. also consider a cave bed, expensive but she will love it!

If you have no time for for an internet order, Pets at Home do sell Whippet collars and do engraved tags, but online has more choice and quality. Their sighthound coats are not very good.

What a gorgeous pup! Our girl at that age did 2 sets of Christmas lights Blush & ate a block of butter (we learnt quickly!)

Iflsido · 20/12/2017 16:36

Yes! Mine ate a block of butter at my parents house! First they Kew was when she vommed it all up on the carpet Grin

GothicRainbow · 20/12/2017 17:26

Haha!! Sounds like our Christmas is going to be very interesting to say the least!

I’m just glad she won’t be in kennels over Christmas. I might brave it down to pets at home after we’ve got her on Saturday and just grab an interim collar and coat. I can then order her something lovely in the new year.

Sounds like our Christmas is going to be very interesting to say the least!

It doesn't get any better as they get older either. The first thing DWhippet3 (who has just turned four years old) did when we brought in the Christmas tree was push the damn thing over Hmm

Sludgecolours · 20/12/2017 17:44

How does it work Gothic? Are you having her for the Christmas period (which is a very lovely thing to do) or for longer? How will you bear to give her up?

bluetongue · 20/12/2017 18:16

Gorgeous houndy OP Smile

Do you know about counter surfing? Sighthounds excel at it so don’t leave any tasty morsels out on the kitchen bench

GothicRainbow · 20/12/2017 19:15

Sludge We are fostering for over Christmas and then in the new year we will have first refusal on adopting her (very likely!). If she’s not quite the perfect fit then we will start reviewing applicants for her adoption.

Thanks bluetongue yep we’ve been made aware about counter surfing and general food thievery!! We have most of the counters clear anyway and anything out is pushed right to the back due to grabby toddler hands!!

I've just googled hats for greyhounds. They are so cute, I just don't think mine would wear one though Sad

Sludgecolours · 20/12/2017 19:52

Ooh that's so exciting Gothic I hope it works out for you both.

Grin at the sandwich snaffling Miaow

Iflsido · 20/12/2017 20:12

I had to have the bin behind a locked door on this house.

Oh and the happy day she stole the kids chocolate coins and threw them all up. Foil and all.

CMOTDibbler · 20/12/2017 20:15

We have a reindeer hat and a santa bobble hat. No one likes wearing the reindeer bobble hat as the ears and antlers flop around, but the santa hat is just about tolerated.
I'd post a picture, but the only one I can find has me dressed as an elf ready to do a 5km off road run, and its not the most flattering look. But we did win best family fancy dress, and I think it was the dogs that swung it!

I agree on the ability of pointy noses to reach new levels of food stealing!

Sighthound puppies are pita, but then I get photos from the people my foster pups have gone to, and its wonderful. I tell myself this when I'm sleeping on the yoga mat next to a crate again as the pup needs to be comforted...

GothicRainbow · 20/12/2017 20:57

CMOT we have been told she’s going to be like having a newborn baby in the house again 😆😴 our plan is for the crate to be in the kitchen long term but we may have to have it in the living room for a bit whilst she’s settling in and I can then kip on the sofa.
